If you feel depressed, it’s best to do something about it — depression doesn’t just go away on its own. In addition to getting help from a doctor or counselor, here are four things you can do to feel better.
Exercise. Take a 15—30 minutes walk every day — or dance, jog, or bike if you prefer. People who are depressed may not feel much like being active. 1. Once you get in the exercise habit, it won’t take long to notice a difference in your mood.
Cherish yourself with good nutrition. Depression can affect appetite. One person may not feel like eating at all, but another might overeat. If depression has affected your eating, you’ll need to be extra mindful of getting the right food. 2. So eat plenty of fruits and vegetables and get regular meals (even if you don’t feel hungry, try to eat something light, like a piece of fruit, to keep you going).
Identify troubles. 3. When you know what’s got you feeling blue and why, talk about it with a caring friend. Talking is a way to release the feelings and to receive some understanding. If there’s no one to tell, pouring your heart out to a journal work just as well.
4. Depression affects a person’s thoughts, making everything seem dark, negative and hopeless. If depression has you noticing only the negative, make an effort to notice the good things in life. Try to notice one thing, and then try to think of one more. Consider your strengths, gifts, or blessings. Most of all, don’t forget to be patient with yourself. 5.
A.Look on the bright side.
B.Take action to solve problems.
C.But make yourself do it anyway.
D.Depression takes time to heal.
E.Proper nutrition can influence a person’s mood and energy.
F.With depression, a person’s creativity and sense of fun may seem blocked.
G.Try to make out any situations that have contributed to your depression.

One day, when I was working as a psychologist(心理學(xué)家) in England,a boy showed up in my office. It was David. He kept walking up and down restlessly, his face pale, and his hands shaking slightly. His head teacher had referred him to me. “This boy has lost his family,” he wrote. “He is understandably very sad and refuses to talk to others, and I'm
very worried about him. Can you help?”
I looked at David and showed him to a chair. How could I help him? There are problems psychology doesn’t have the answer to, and which no words can describe. Sometimes the best thing one can do is to listen openly and sympathetically.
The first two times we met, David didn't say a word. He sat there, only looking up to look at the children's drawings on the wall behind me. I suggested we play a game of chess. He nodded. After that he played chess with me every Wednesday afternoon -- in complete silence and without looking at me. It's not easy to cheat in chess, but I admit I made sure David won once or twice.
Usually, he arrived earlier than agreed, took the chess board and pieces from the shelf and began setting them up before I even got a chance to sit down. It seemed as if he enjoyed my company. But why did he never look at me?
"Perhaps he simply needs someone to share his pain with," I thought. "Perhaps he senses that I respect his suffering.” Some months later, when we were playing chess, he looked up at me suddenly.
"It’s your turn," he said.
After that day, David started talking. He got friends in school and joined a bicycle club. He wrote to me a few times about his biking with some friends, and about his plan to get into university. Now he had really started to live his own life.
Maybe I gave David something. But I also learned that one -- without any words -- can reach out to another person. All it takes is a hug, a shoulder to cry on, a friendly touch, and an ear that listens.Ziyuanku.com

He's an old cobbler(修鞋匠)with a shop in the Marais,a historic area in Paris. When I took him my shoes,he at first told me: “I haven't time.Take them to the other fellow on the main street ; he'll fix them for you right away.”
But I'd had my eye on his shop for a long time.Just looking at his bench loaded with tools and pieces of leather,I knew he was a skilled craftsman(手藝人).“No,” I replied,“the other fellow can't do it well.”
“The other fellow” was one of those shopkeepers who fix shoes and make keys “while-U-wait”-without knowing much about mending shoes or making keys. They work carelessly, and when they have finished sewing back a sandal strap(鞋帶)you might as well just throw away the pair.
The man saw I wouldn't give in,and he smiled. He wiped his hands on his blue apron(圍裙),looked at my shoes, had me write my name on one shoe with a piece of chalk and said,“Come back in a week.”
I was about to leave when he took a pair of soft leather boots off a shelf.
“See what I can do?” he said with pride.“Only three of us in Paris can do this kind of work…”
When I got back out into the street, the world seemed brand-new to me.He was something out of an ancient legend, this old craftsman with his way of speaking familiarly, his very strange, dusty felt hat,his funny accent from who-knows-where and, above all,his pride in his craft.
There are times when nothing is important but the bottom line, when you can do things any old way as long as it “pays”,when,in short, people look on work as a path to ever-increasing consumption(消費(fèi))rather than a way to realize their own abilities. In such a period it is a rare comfort to find a cobbler who gets his greatest satisfaction from pride in a job well done.
1.Which of the following is true about the old cobbler?
A. He was equipped with the best repairing tools.
B. He was the only cobbler in the Marais.
C. He was a native Parisian.
D. He was proud of his skills.
2.The sentence “He was something out of an ancient legend.” ( paragraph 7 ) implies that .
A. the man was very strange
B. it was difficult to communicate with this man
C. the man was too old
D. nowadays you can hardly find anyone like him
3.According to the author, many people work just to .
A. realize their abilities B. gain respect
C. make money D. gain happiness
4.This story wants to tell us that .
A. craftsmen make a lot of money B. people are born equal
C. whatever you do,do it well D. craftsmen need self-respect
