【原文】

Your assignments this term will be to write two major research papers. One of the most important things about writing a research paper is giving proper credit for your sources of information. Failure to do this is called plagiarism, which is a form of intellectual dishonesty. Plagiarism is a kind of stealing, or at least, an unauthorized borrowing of someone else’s ideas.

Sometimes, inexperienced students will plagiarize unintentionally, and then be surprised when the teacher won’t accept their papers or give them a failing grade. The best way to avoid unintentional plagiarizing is to be very careful in gathering your information. As you take notes on books and magazine articles about the topic you’ve selected, first try to understand the information thoroughly.

Secondly, write it down in your own words. This is called paraphrasing. You’ll capture the main idea from your source without actually using any phrases from it. Most of your notes should probably be paraphrased.

However, occasionally you may find something you wish to quote directly in your research paper. In this case, be sure that you copy the information precisely in your notes and enclose it in quotation marks. That way, when you’re finalizing your research paper, you’ll be able to remember which of your notes are direct quotes, and which are your own summaries of the material. You can then incorporate and give the original author proper credit.

Questions:

What kind of assignment does the speaker discuss with his students?

What does the speaker warn the students against doing?

According to the speaker, how should most of the notes be taken?

【題目】請閱讀下面短文。并按照要求用英語寫一篇150詞左右的文章。

The national box office set a record in 2017, almost 56 billion yuan, up 13 percent from 2016. Last year, there were 92 films whose revenue(收入)exceeded 100 million yuan each including 51 Chinese films. About 1.62 billion tickets were bought, up 18 percent year-on-year. In 2017, the Chinese film industry produced 798 dramas, 32 animation films and 44 documentaries in all. Fifteen films earned more than 1 billion yuan each at the box office, up from nine in 2016.

In the coming days, records will likely be broken and history will be made as China’s film industry appears to be on the turning point of a new era, industry insiders said. This year, the number of new film releases, box-office earnings, and even stock-market performance of shares listed entertainment companies and expected to be higher, they said.

Filmgoers’ reviews have had an increasingly significant impact on the box office more than other factors such as the participation of pop celebrities in pre-release promotions, a media professor said. Also, viewers are no longer getting influenced by big names alone. They don’t care whether the film is Chinese, Hollywood, European, or Indian, as long as it has substance(內(nèi)容). Even a low-budget film with little-known cast and crew could emerge as a hit, industry observers said.

Last Friday, I was standing near a subway exit, tried to call a taxi. But no luck. Then I thought of the taxi-booking app my friend has recommended and I booked a taxi through my cellphone. Soon it came, and I stepped in, feeling pretty proudly of my high-tech way and satisfied with the convenience brought by the app. So later, I was upset to find that the driver was busy looking his cellphone to get the next order. It was just then when I began to worry about my safety. What’s bad, the driver’s informations might be unreliable. How can we passengers’ legal rights be protecting if something bad happens? So be careful when you use the taxi-booking app the next time.
