Because one gift they 【1】 (desperate)wanted never arrived: The British-built spacecraft Beagle 2 【2】 (schedule)to land on the Red Planet, radio home the good news and begin a search for life. Instead, mission 【3】 (control) heard nothing. They finally declared the Beagle 2 lost after months of silence. Without contact with mission control, the probe could not perform any science .
However, the lander appears 【9】 (damage) and in good condition, and the remains of a parachute and an atmospheric-entry cover lie hundreds of meters away.

Earthquake ! " The word flashed in my brain. A roaring sound filled my ears. I tried to slide beneath my desk. The desk did a wild tap dance, slipping and sliding towards the centre of the room. I twisted my body and grabbed at the windowsill behind me, somehow kicking free of my dancing chair. I tried to stand. My legs skated a-way as if on a bucking escalator.
My fingers shook, grasped and held the windowsill tightly. Somewhere through the roar sounded the terrified scream of some wounded animal. I looked behind me and tried to steady my gaze on the other kids but the scene was a dizzy nightmare. Some of the class were sitting in the middle of the room, surrounded by chairs and desks. One girl was screaming. A boy was trying to claw his way across the floor to the door in a crazy overarm crawl. My grip froze me to the windowsill.
I cried aloud," I'm going to die. I'm going to die. Save me, I'm not ready to die, I'm not ready !" I hunched forward on my knees and pressed my face against my clenched fingers. I looked at the backs of my fingers and stupidly noticed the fragile pale hairs growing out of the pores. The fingers would soon cease to exist. Somehow the impending horror of my death was too terrible to even cry about.
Suddenly, I became aware that the rocking had ceased. Perhaps I wasn't going to die.

【題目】Florence Nightingale was born in a rich family. When she was young she took lessons in music and drawing, and read great books. She also traveled a great deal with her mother and father.
As a child she felt that visiting sick people was both a duty and a pleasure. She enjoyed helping them.
At last mind was made up. “I’m going to be a nurse,” she decided.
“Nursing isn’t the right work for a lady,” her father told her.
“Then I will make it so”, she smiled. And she went to learn nursing in Germany and France.
When she returned to England, Florence started a nursing home. During the Crimean War in 1854 she went with a group of thirty eight nurses to the front hospitals. What they saw there was terrible. Dirt and death were everywhere to be seen — and smelled. The officer there did not want any woman to tell him how to run a hospital, either. But the brave nurse went to work.
Florence used her own money and some from friends to buy clothes, beds, medicine and food for the men. Her only pay was in smiles from the lips of dying soldiers. But they were more than enough for this kind woman.
After she returned to England, she was honored for her services by Queen Victoria. But Florence said that her work had just begun. She raised money to build the Nightingale Home for Nurses in London. She also wrote a book on public health, which was printed in several countries.

With the fast development of technology, we enjoy its convenience as well suffer the troubles which we human beings can never afford to ignore.
Which is seen everywhere, people nowadays lived a life on the go with a mobile phone which make them available at any time. Otherwise , they may bend over the phone even when they are seating face to face, lacking in heart-to-heart communication. What's more, we are faced with more serious food problems which by turn contribute to more deadly diseases like cancers.
As a matter of fact, human beings are blame for all these problems. If we wish to leave our next generations a still beautiful world, we have to take actions from now on, such as stopping destroying the earth by cutting off trees.
