Hi, everyone. What would you miss most and least if you were stuck on a desert island? For me, it would be the changing seasons in New England. I guess this will sound stupid but I’d probably miss the rain, too. I wouldn’t miss getting up at six every day to go to work, though! What about you?
Post 2
Tomas

Good question, Steve. I think I’d miss different types of bread, and shopping at the supermarket. I’d miss the food most. What would I miss least? My mobile phone--I’d like to be completely quiet--at least for a little while.
Post 3
Paola
Italy
I would miss the company of people because I know I’d like to have someone to share experiences with. I’d go mad on my own. And I sure wouldn’t miss junk mail(垃圾郵件)--I hate coming home every evening and finding a pile of junk mail in my post box.

Hi, I would miss Manga cartoon, the Internet and Japanese food, like sushi. I’d also miss TV shows and shopping for clothes…In fact, I’d miss everything.
Post 5
Roger

I would miss my daily newspaper and listening to the news on TV and radio. I’d feel very cut off if I didn’t know what was happening in the world. What I’d miss least would be traffic jams in the city, particularly my journey to work.
Post 6

Why hasn’t anyone mentioned their family? I’d be lost without my husband and two kids. They are the most important for me. And I can’t get started in the morning without a cup of black coffee. I wouldn’t miss doing the housework.

D
Here are a few tips we’ve put together to help you learn English well.
Speak, speak, speak!
Practise speaking as often as you can—even speaking to yourself is good practice. Try recording yourself whenever you can. Compare your pronunciation with the master version, see how you can do better and have another try. If you do this several times, you will find that each version is better than the last.
Why not learn with someone else?
It helps if you can learn with someone else. If you can persuade a friend or family member to study with you, it will make you keep working. Agree times to meet and set goals for the week, and test each other regularly.
Don’t get stuck by a word you don’t know
Practise improvising (即興的) ways of getting your meaning across while speaking spontaneously (本能), even if you don’t know the exact words or phrases. Think of things you might want to say whenever you have spare time. A basic example is the use of tenses. If you don’t know the past tense but want to talk about yesterday, use the verb in the present tense and use the word for “yesterday”. Use facial expressions, hand movements, anything to get your meaning across.
Language learning is also about intuition (直覺)
Guesswork is important in learning a new language. When listening to recorded material, you aren’t expected to understand everything first time round. If you play the same piece several times, you will most probably understand something new each time. Learn to make maximum use of all the clues you can pick up. For example, what do the speakers sound like? Happy? Angry? Calm? Etc.
Build up your vocabulary
A wide vocabulary is the key to successful language learning but don’t try to learn too much at once. It’s best to study frequently, for short periods of time. Take a maximum of six or seven items of vocabulary and learn them. Put them into sentences to fix them in your mind, then come back to them later. Much of the vocabulary in the course is presented by topic.
And above all, have fun!
68. Why should one have himself recorded when practicing speaking?
A. To encourage others to start.
B. To record his own progress.
C. To improve his speaking.
D. To compare himself with others.
69. Which of the following is the most important in learning English?
A. Speaking.      B. Pleasure.      C. Intuition.     D. Vocabulary.
70. It is important in Tip 3 that        is helpful when you are learning English.
A. body language  B. a good memory  C. a good friend  D. a proper dictionary
71. Which of the following seems NOT to be true in learning a language?
A. Practice makes perfect.          B. A good beginning is half done.
C. Rome is not built in a day.      D. Don’t run before you can walk.

A week ago , “Sports for Life” pregramme was sent to the parents, requiring them to select a sport they wanted their child to play. There will be four basketball courts available for our use with one teacher watching over each game .

We will be using St.Peter’s Memorial Park. There are two reasons for choosing theis park. Frist , it is not very busy and crowded before 6:00 pm. Second , it has lot of trees with plenty of shade. COOL INVENTIONS
CHARGE ON THE GO
From school to band practice, the Venturi Eclectic is an Earth-friendly way to get where you want to go. This battery-powered, zero-emission(meaning it doesn’t pollute the air) vehicle runs mainly on renewable energy. Solar panels on the Eclectic’s roof absorb sun rays when you’re driving. On windy days, you can connect a machine to the car’s roof collects energy from the wind while you’re parked. The Eclectic’s top speed is 28 miles an hour; the battery lasts for 31 miles before it needs to be recharged. Zipping (迅速行進(jìn))round the neighborhood has never been better.
WATER CLOCK
Here’s an eco-friendly way to tell time: Simply fill the Bedol Water-powered Clock’s tank(箱)with water, add some lemon juice, and the clock will display the time without the need for environmentally harmful batteries. There are two sets of metal electrodes(電極)inside the water tank. Water contains ions(離子)that carry negative and positive charges. These ions complete a charge between the electrodes creating enough energy to power the clock. Just refill the tank every few weeks, and this clock will keep on ticking.
LAND ROCKET
Bloodhound SuperSonic Car (SSC) will be the first car to attempt to break the 1,000-mile-an-hour barrier. (The current record is 763 miles an hour.) a concept for now, the rocket-shaped car gets its initial push to 350 miles an hour from a jet engine. Then a rocket fires up, pushing the SSC past 1,000 miles an hour. In order to keep the car streamlined(流線型的)the driver lies back at a 45-degree angle.
COOL CAMERA
You’re having a blast at your friend’s birthday party. But when it’s time to bring out the cake, everyone crowds around, blocking your view. No worries. Throw the Triops into the air, and this clever camera captures the view from above. The Triops can take three pictures at once, each from different angles. You can also record sounds and command the Triops to start shooting whenever it hears that noise. That’s one smart camera.
1.According to the passage, the Venturi Eclectic______.
A.is popular with businessmen
B.is suitable for a long trip
C.can turn wind into energy
D.has only a little gas emission
2.What is the common characteristic of the Venturi Eclectic and the Bedol Water-powered Clock?
A.They don’t need batteries.
B.They are difficult to operate
C.They can be powered by water
D.They are environmentally friendly
3.The underlined phrase “having a blast” in the last paragraph means______.
A.looking at a picture     B.enjoying yourself
C.blowing out a candle       D.recording sounds
4.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A.The Triops in sensitive to sounds.
B.The driver of the SSC must be of great size.
C.The color of the Bedol Water-powered Clock is like that of lemon
D.The SSC doesn’t have anything to do with a rocket actually.

Visiting Canada This Summer?
A visit to Canada begins with a stop at customs. This can be done quickly if visitors keep in mind the following general tips:
*     Most American visitors are allowed into Canada after answering a few simple questions. In some cases, customs officers may examine your car and your possessions.
*     You must have photo identification when you cross the border. If you are travelling with children who are not your own, they should have their own identification, and you need a permission note from their parents or guardians.
*     You can bring with you no more than 40 ounces (1.14 litres) of liquor or 52 ounces of wine or 24 containers of beer (355 ml or 12 oz. each). Please note that we classify coolers according to the type of alcohol they contain. Also, you may not bring more than 200 cigarettes. 50 cigars, 200 tobacco sticks, and 200 grams of manufactured tobacco without paying duty.
*     Generally speaking, you are allowed to bring personal goods for your trip into Canada.
*     You cannot bring handguns into Canada unless you have a special permit and only under specific conditions. You cannot bring long guns into Canada except in special cases such as hunting season or for use in a competition. You must declare all guns at customs or they will be seized. You cannot bring weapons such as mace into Canada in any cases. For more information, see pamphlet Importing a Firearm or Weapon into Canada.
*     You may qualify for a rebate (折扣)of the goods and services tax (GST) or the harmonized (協(xié)調(diào)的)sales tax (HST) you pay on accommodation (住所)and shopping you make while in Canada. For more information, see Tax Refund/or Visitors to Canada.
*     You may also bring gifts worth up to CAN$60 each for your friends or relatives in Canada without paying duty, as long as these do not consist of alcoholic drink or tobacco products.
