【題目】選擇合適的選項補全短文。How to make Quick Decisions For Your Life
We make decisions every dayWhen it comes to making decisions, choosing the right one can at times be stressful, especially if the decision must be made quickly. Indecision often weighs us down, but there are some useful tips for making quick decisions more easily.
Sometimes the key to making a quick decision comes down to planning ahead of time for just such an occasion. We all know we're going to come to an important decision-making point sooner or later, so having a plan already in hand can put our mind at ease when that time comes.
Overcome fear. While it may seem difficult to overcome the fear of making the wrong choice, many experts agree that we shouldn't be afraid to make the wrong decision, even if it seems important. The vast majority of wrong decisions can be corrected, while delaying decisions can often lead to more problems.
Write down all the advantages and disadvantages of your decision. Even if you don't have all the information, writing down all the pros and cons(優(yōu)缺點) is a good starting point for figuring out what to do. In cases where there simply isn't enough time to write things down, make a mental list in your mind. Thinking of the pros and cons can help you organize your thoughts.
Determine criteria. Remember that every decision you make should come with a certain list of criteria. But once you know the requirements you're looking for, making a decision will become easier. Look for the choice that satisfies the list you've made, and once that choice is found, you should move ahead with it.
A. Have a plan.
B. The list may be short or quite long.
C. Communicate your decision with others.
D. And this can always lead to a clear answer.
E. So cut out any options that you know you will not choose.
F. Often, one thing that keeps us from making decisions is fear.
G. Some can be very important while others are not serious in the long run.

【題目】Sound travels very well through water-much better, in fact, than it does through air. So it shouldn’t be surprising that many ocean animals make noise. They use sound to communicate and hunt. As biologist Brandon Southall says, “Their whole world is related to sound.”

Dolphins whistle, organizing hunts. Lovesick whales sing so loudly they can be heard hundreds of miles away. But these days they aren’t the only ones sounding off. They have more and more competition from human machines.

Every day, thousands of huge container ships sail across the world’s oceans. On top of the engine noise, the ships’ propeller (螺旋槳) make a loud noise all the time. All that can make it hard for ocean animals trying to listen out for friends, or dinner. Animals swimming nearby a ship can be deafened or even killed.

Underwater construction can also be dangerously loud. When construction machines called pile drivers were used during repairs to the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, dead fish appeared.

Geologist (地質學家) pound on the seafloor too, trying to find oil wells and map Earth’s surface. The results are useful lo science, but all that hammering probably gives ocean animal a headache.

As people realize how important sound is to ocean animals, they are looking for ways to reduce human noise. Ships could get quieter just by slowing down. Engineers are also trying to find quieter propeller ships.

Now some companies are using a simple invention called a bubble curtain, which makes sound waves passing through it lose energy and gel quieter. It seems to work - when bubble curtains were fixed on the San Francisco bridge project fish deaths dropped.

We still have a lot to learn about sound in the oceans, but together we can help keep the sea a quieter place.

【題目】Earlier this summer, Carol LeResche got the phone call she’d been waiting for. A tourist was picking zucchini (西葫蘆) at Thorne Rider Park. “It’s exactly what we hoped would happen when we put in the food forest,” explained LeResche, the park’s food forest founder. In May, he received a $ 3,500 fund. The money was to help turn a former park into an edible (可食用的) landscape. It’s a place where all of the fruits, vegetables and nuts are free for the taking.

Unlike some parks with strict “no picking” policies, food forests are designed to provide colorful crops. People are encouraged to harvest them. “We think it’s important to put public food in public spaces,” she said. The desire to know more about where our food comes from is one of the reasons there is a real trend toward agriculture into neighborhoods and communities. There, people can participate in tours and classes or relax among the fruit trees. Food forests provide different kinds of fresh produce more than we can buy.

Food forests are based on a model valuing sustainable and mostly self-sufficient agricultural production. The food forest model requires less chemical fertilizer and less labor than traditional agriculture. An edible forest is designed to develop without pesticides or weeding.

Since the concept is relatively new, and it takes at least three years for fruit and nut trees and berry bushes to start producing meaningful amounts of fresh food, it’s hard to know whether food forests will have an impact on food deserts. Volunteer-driven projects can fall apart if the group loses interest. Lack of funding can also be problematic. Pests also are an often-cited concern.

After all and above all, LeResche explained, food forests are about a lot more than food. “We also want to provide a gathering space that is productive and beautiful where people can develop a relationship with each other and get connected.”

1Compared with common food bought, what is special about the food in edible forests?

A. It tastes better. B. It has more varieties.

C. It has funny appearances. D. It’s produced free of fertilizer.

2What is stressed in Paragraph 4?

A. Food forests may disappear soon.

B. Food forests have a long way to go.

C. Food forests waste lots of natural resources.

D. Food forests seem imaginary and impossible.

3As for LeResche, what is the most important role of food forests?

A. A way to relax and entertain. B. A way to solve food shortage.

C. A way to be thankful for nature. D. A way to meet and make friends.

4What is the author’s purpose in writing the text?

A. To call help. B. To raise money.

C. To compare and argue. D. To inform and introduce.
