11.The Christmas season is often considered the season of giving.Many of us spend a lot of effort and money in an attempt to give our friends and loved ones the best possible gift.But what is the best gift you could possibly give?
Imagine that your bank gave you an account with $86,400every morning of every day.You could use this amount of money for anything you want.But at the end of every day,the bank tells you that money in the account can only be used within that day.How would you choose to spend this money?
This is the attitude we should take towards the time.Time can never get back.It is the only resource that no one can get more than another person.
Around the holiday season,we find ourselves very busy.It is a point in the year where how you spend your time is crucial.Spending this valuable time to help another human being in need is one of the greatest gifts we can give.We never know when even giving a short amount of time to help or listen to a stranger,could make the rest of their day much more pleasant.
However,the saying that money is time is one of the truest statements ever made.By the act of donating money to a non profit organization which helps-for example,you are allowing that single mother to spend more time looking after her children,instead of being forced to spend time looking for a temporary second job.By donating some money,you have helped someone else use their time for a better cause.
One organization I personally would encourage you to consider spending your time and/or money would be Eva Initiatives,an organization created for the homeless.I have volunteered there twice.It was a very positive experience,and being able to learn more about who lived there really gave me a perspective on the real struggles of the people around us.

33.What is the function of the first paragraph?B

A.Lost time never returns.
B.Time is sure to tell the truth.
C.Time tries friends as fire tries gold.
D.Time can create great wonders.
35.What do you think of the author in the passage?A

2.Bluebirds  looking  secretly  from  nest  boxes.Tadpoles  swimming  in  a  pond.Tiger swallowtails flying quickly around a butterfly bush.And over here,a class of students watching it all.A field trip to a nature center?No,it's a schoolyard.With some work on your part,it could even be your schoolyard.
Interested in building a schoolyard habitat? Here's how to get started.
Gather a Team
Students can do a lot on their own,but you'll need adults for a project this big.Get teachers,parents,and  even  the  headmaster  interested.Don't  forget  the  maintenance(維修)staff-they know more about your school's yard than anyone else and can give you lots of help.Also,ask around your neighborhood for gardeners,naturalists,and others willing to give advice.
Map Your Site
Which part of the schoolyard can you turn  into a habitat?Is there an unused corner of the playground?Part of a lawn or field you could let go wild?You'll need to make a map of the area showing what's  there now.Then  you  can  figure out  how you want  to  change  it.For  that,you need a plan.
Plan a Habitat
Here's what you'll need to make your area attractive to wildlife.
Food:Plant  flowers,bushes,and  trees.These  provide  seeds,berries,leaves,flowers,and sweet  liquids.And  all  of  these  feed  birds,and  insects.You  can  also  add  some  feeders  for squirrels and birds.Where possible,stick with native plants-wild plants that grow naturally in your area.They need less care,which means less work for you.
Water:A  small pond,birdbath,or  even  a  shallow dish  of  clean water  in  the ground will attract birds.Other small animals like insects may visit as well.
Shelter:Bushes and trees make great escapes for birds.Tall grass and"weeds"are home to grasshoppers,garter  snakes,and  some  ground-nesting birds.You  can  also  add  stone  piles  and brush piles.
Places to Raise Young:Butterflies need special plants to lay their eggs on.Frogs and toads lay eggs only  in shallow water.Many birds use birdhouses; others nest  in  trees and bushes.In fact,nearly all your shelters may become homes for wild young.
Put It on Paper
Using the map you made of your area,draw in the changes you want to make.Mark where the plants,nest boxes,and other items will go.Remember,this is a long-term plan-you don't have  to  do  everything  this  spring.Maybe  you  could  put  up  a  few  birdhouses  and  plant  some butterfly bushes now and save the trees and bushes for next year.Even a small start is a big step for wildlife.
Reach for Resources
To make the habitat happen,you'll need lots of plants,seeds,and other supplies.You'll also need to buy or borrow tools and maybe even some heavy equipment.Now's the time to reach out for donations.Start by asking your parent-teacher organization.Then go to garden clubs,garden stores (they might give you a discount),local government agencies,and businesses.If they can't donate supplies or money,ask if they can donate workers!
The workers can help build  the habitat.You'll also need people  to help maintain  it.Some schools ask their students'families to take turns during the summer.Each family maintains  the habitat for a couple of weeks.
Build Your Design
Now you can dig in.Set a date, and get growing!
46.What is this article mostly about?A

"Fast fashion"means clothes which are inexpensive but look like (26)the latest (late) designs from top fashion houses.One reason for the success of the fast fashion is the rise of the social media.A report found that Millennials (千禧一代) want to wear a variety of clothes in the photos they post on social media.As a result,many businesses which offer trendy and low-cost clothes grow quickly.
However,some Millennials are not happy with the rise of fast fashion.Maxine was tired of always shopping for (27)what was in style.Instead,she wanted to buy fewer clothes she could wear over and over.So Maxine started a"slow fashion"clothing company called Zady.The clothes it sells often feature classic colors and shapes,and are made from natural materials.
The international business H&M,one of the best-known fast fashion brands,has another approach to"slow fashion."It has created a recycling program for clothes,(28)which invites people to bring clothes they no longer want to H&M stores.Shoppers who donate old clothes can receive (29)a discount on new things they buy.After that,H&M does several things with shoppers'old clothes.Some of them are sold again.Some are turned into other useful items.And the rest (30)are reduced(reduce) to fiber (纖維制品) that can be reused as building materials.

6.One animal which has died out was once a kind of bird in large numbers in North America:the passenger pigeon.The passenger pigeon bred(繁殖)in the eastern part of the U.S.a(chǎn)nd Canada and often migrated(遷徙) to the southern U.S.during the winter months.The bird's name didn't come from the migrations but from its movements in search of food.The passenger pigeons were social birds,traveling in amazingly large numbers from millions to one or two billion.Passing overhead,a large group of birds could darken the sky like storm clouds for a period of hours.
A hundred or more pairs of pigeons often nested in the same tree,each female laying a single egg.The birds lived mainly on wild seeds and nuts,but sometimes many of them would storm down onto a field or a garden and eat everything in sight.
While large numbers of passenger pigeons were recorded in the late nineteenth century,the population decreased rapidly,and the last wild bird was shot in 1904.The sudden disappearance of the bird remains a mystery,but an explanation is found in its habit of nesting and moving in large numbers.Farmers,who considered them pests,found it easy to catch hundreds at a time in nets.Also,as passenger pigeons were tasty game birds,market hunters shot hundreds of thousands on their nesting grounds.By 1900the passenger pigeon was already rare.

Many years ago,children who had good manners were seen and not heard.They kept quite quiet if grown-ups were talking.Today,well-mannered children have more freedom.
Sometimes good manners in one place are bad manners in other places.
Suppose you are a visitor in the land of Mongolia.Some friends ask you to eat with them.What kind of manners do they want you to have?They want you to give a loud"burp"(打嗝)after you finish eating.Burping would show that you liked your food.
In some countries,if you give a loud burp, you are told to say"excuse me,please."

Suppose you visit a friend in Arabia.You should walk behind the other tents until you come to his tent.If you pass in front of the other tents,you will be asked into each one.People will ask you to eat with them.And it is bad manners if you say no.
Manners are different all over the world.But it is good to know that all manners begin in the same way.People needed ways to show that they wanted to be friends.

20.A refrigerator of the future that tells you what to cook with your leftovers and automatically re-orders fresh food is being designed m the UK.The self-cleaning"refrigerator of the future"will automatically place supermarket home delivery orders when required and move food near its use by date to the front of the shelves.
Researchers hope the fridge could clean itself, cut down on wasted food and offer up recipes, which could be tailored to different countries, cuisines and seasons (調(diào)味品).With the British spending 36 million hours on extra-hour work every year, leaving little time for housework, the refrigerator could help save time during busy modern-day lives. These new developments are oh the way thanks to combined efforts between scientists at the University of Central Lancashire and online supermarket Ocado.
The planned new qualities include the ability for refrigerators to scan their shelves to see what is in store and use this information to both plan meals and automatically place a supermarket food order.
The smart fridge will use"nano-articulated(納米) technology"shelf surfaces, smooth to the touch. The shelf surfaces will have millions of independently controlled micro-tiles (小瓷格) which will move products which soon need to be eaten to the front of the refrigerator.Ultrasound-scanning technology built into the door will allow the refrigerator to"look through"the food on a plate before and after mealtime, meaning it can assess what type and amount of food is wasted.
Dr Simon Somerville,an expert from the University of Central Lancashire, said."Cookbooks are lists of food items. For this purpose the most available information that the refrigerator will have is a set of arrangements that allow a set number of ingredients(佐料) to produce a large number of quite different dishes. The key concept in the successful accomplishment of this process is accurate list tracking (跟蹤)."

1.Although Paris is often considered the city of romance, close to a million adults who call it home are single. Many single people say that France's capital is one of the most difficult places to meet people. The complaints(抱怨)of this lonely group have inspired a new phenomenon known as"supermarket dating."At Galerie Lafayette Gourmet, singles can shop for more than just the items on their grocery list. They can look for someone who has blue eyes, brown hair, and is 1.8 meters tall,or whatever may be on their romantic shopping list.
At this paris location, single people of all ages can schedule their shopping for Thursday nights between 6:30 and 9:00 p.m.When they walk through the door, they pick up a purple basket to advise that they are looking for love. They try to arrive early because the baskets disappear quickly, and then they have to wait in line for their turn to wander the store aisles(過道).
With purple baskets in hand, shoppers can consider their romantic options while they pick out their groceries. When they are ready to pay, they can go to the checkout line for singles who want to chat.
Most of the people who look for love in the supermarket are skeptical of Internet dating. They know that it is easy to embellish(美化)one's appearance or to lie about one's age over the Internet. The supermarket,on the other hand,is considered a safe and casual environment in which to meet a potential match. In addition, what one finds in another's grocery basket can say a thing or two about that person's character or intentions.Buying pet food can be a man's way of showing a potential match that he has a sensitive side.Women who fill their baskets with low-fat food show their healthy style of living. These ways it's possible to find much more than food at a grocery store.
