Shakespeare ,more perhaps than any other writer ,made full use of the greatest resources of the English Language .Most of us use about five thousand words in our normal employment of English ;Shakespeare in his works used about twenty—five thousand! There is probably no better way for a foreigner to appreciate the richness and variety of the English language than by studying the various ways in which Shakespeare uses it .Such a study is well worth the effort, even though some aspects of English usage ,and the meaning of many words ,have changed since Shakespeare’s day.
However ,it is surprising that we should know comparatively little about the life of the greatest English author. We know that Shakespeare was born in 1564 in Stratford—on—Avon ,and that he died there in 1616.He almost certainly attended the Grammer School in the town ,but of this we cannot be sure .We know he was married there in 1582 to Anne Hathaway and that he had three children .We know that he spent much of his life in London writing his masterpieces .But this is almost all that we do know .
However ,what is important about Shakespeare’s life is not its incidental details but its products , the plays and the poems .For many years scholars have been trying to add a few facts about Shakespeare’s life to the small number we already possess and for an equally long tine critics(批評(píng))have been theorizing(理論化)about the plays .Sometimes ,indeed ,it seems that the poetry of Shakespeare will disappear under the great mass of comment that has been written upon it .
Fortunately this is not likely to happen .Shakespeare’s people have long delighted not just the English but lovers of literature everywhere ,and will continue to do so after the scholars and critics and all their works have been forgotten.

A.not all the comments on Shakespeare’s works have produced good effects
B.scholars have successfully collected facts about Shakespeare’s life
C.critics are more interested in Shakespeare’s play than his poetry
D.the details of Shakespeare’s life are more important than his literary works
54.What does the last sentence in Para 3 mean ?
A.People don’t think the poetry of Shakespeare good any more.
B.People pay more attention to the comment than the poetry of Shakespeare.
C.People can’t see the poetry of Shakespeare any more.
D.The comment is printed on the poetry of Shakespeare.

第一節(jié)(共15題;每小題2分,滿分30分)
閱讀下列短文,從每題所給的四個(gè)選項(xiàng)(A、B、C和D)中,選出最佳選項(xiàng),并在答題卡上將該項(xiàng)涂黑。
If you are looking for a new pet, don’t even think about Komodo dragons, which are the largest lizards and can grow to be 10 feet long and weigh more than 300 pounds. Komodo dragons run fast and eat almost any kind of meat, including dead or live animals, other Komodo dragons and people. “These things are powerful killing machines,” says Bryan Fry, a biologist.
If those reasons aren’t good enough, consider the bite of a Komodo dragon. According to a new study, it may kill prey like snakes by injecting venom. This chemical, according to Fry and his team of scientists at the University of Melbourne in Australia, can cause shock in the unlucky victim. A person or animal goes into shock when the body can’t offer enough blood to organs to keep functioning. As a result, the body starts to shut down.
Scientists have only recently begun to understand why a Komodo dragon is so deadly. Some people used to believe that a Komodo dragon’s bite contained bacteria from the mouth that would cause a severe infection in the victim’s blood. The infection would finally kill the animal. Fry says that after being bitten by a Komodo dragon, animal usually die quickly.
After more studies, Fry and his team found that Komodo dragon venom contained some of the same ingredients as snake venom. These ingredients thin the blood and cause blood vessels to become larger. To test the venom, the scientists injected rats with it and observed that the rats became still.
Fry’s work shows that Komodo dragons kill their prey with venom, and not by bacteria — and gives us another reason why we should avoid coming across them. That is easy to do, since they live on a few islands in the tropical country of Indonesia.
41. From the passage we can learn that ______.
A. Komodo dragons live on a few islands of India
B. a Komodo dragon weighs more than 300 kilograms
C. a Komodo dragon is more than eleven feet long
D. nobody dares to keep a Komodo dragon as a pet
42. The underlined word “venom” in Paragraph 2 probably means ______.
A. the chemical that does no harm
B. a kind of way that kills its enemy
C. a kind of poisonous liquid of some animals
D. the gas which could cause death
43. Why does a victim get into shock after being injected?
A. He or it is too afraid to move about.
B. His or its organs can’t get enough blood.
C. His or its body was hurt and shuts down.
D. He or it is bitten and loses much blood.
44. Komodo dragons can’t easily hurt us because ______.
A. they are afraid of human beings
B. the venom in them is not so powerful
C. our blood can make them close to us
D. they only inhabit a few islands in Indonesia

My Best Enemy
Once again, I was in a new school. So was a girl in my class named Lisa. That’s where the similarities ended.
I was tall and she was small. My thick black hair had been recently cut short into an untidy style. Her natural blonde hair flowed to her waist and looked great. I was 12 and one of the oldest in the class while she was 11 and the youngest. I was awkward and shy. She wasn’t. I couldn’t stand her, considering her my enemy. But she liked me and wanted to be friends.
One day, she invited me over and I said yes—I was too shocked to answer any other way. My family had moved six times in six years, and I had never managed to develop any friendships. But this girl who wore the latest fashions wanted me to go home with her after school. She lived in a fun part of town that had two pizza places, an all-right bookstore, a movie theater and a park. As we walked from the school bus stop through her neighborhood, I tried to guess which house might be hers. Was it the white one with the perfect lawn or the three –story house with a front porch? I got very surprised when she led me into an old apartment building. She lived on the fourth floor in a two-room place with her mother, her stepfather, her two brothers and her sister.
When we got into the room she shared with her sister, she took out a big case of Barbies, which was my next surprise. I had never played with them. We sat on the floor, laughing as we made up crazy stories about the Barbies. We found out that we both wanted to be writers when we were older and both had wild imaginations. We had a great day that afternoon.
Lisa was loved by the whole neighborhood. The bookstore owners lent her fashion magazines; the movie theater gave her free tickets…. Soon I was included in her magic world. We slept over at each other’s houses and spent every free moment together.
Lisa, my first real friend since childhood, helped me get through the rough years of early adolescence(青春期)and taught me an amazing and very surprising thing about making friends: you worst enemy can turn out to be your best friend.
54.The writer and Lisa were similar in the way that________ .

C.they were both tall            D.they were of the same age
55.One day Lisa invited the writer____________.

Are morning people born or made? In my case it was definitely made. In my early 20s, I rarely went to bed before midnight, and I would almost always get up late the next morning.
But after a while I couldn’t ignore the high relationship between success and rising early. On those rare occasions where I did get up early, I noticed that my productivity was almost always higher. So I set out to become a habitual early riser. But whenever my alarm went off, my first thought was always to stop that noise and go back to sleep. Eventually some sleep research showed me that I was using the wrong strategy.
The most common wrong strategy is this: You assume that if you’re going to get up earlier, you’d better go to bed earlier. It sounds very reasonable, but will usually fail.
There are two main schools(流派) of thought on sleep patterns. One is that you should go to bed and get up at the same time every day. The second school says you should go to bed when you’re tired and get up when you naturally wake up. However, I have found both of them are wrong if you care about productivity. If you sleep at set hours, you’ll sometimes go to bed when you aren’t sleepy enough. You’re wasting time lying in bed awake and not being asleep.
If your sleep is based on what your body tells you, you’ll probably be sleeping more than you need. Also, your mornings may be less predictable if you’re getting up at different times.
The solution for me has been to combine both methods. I go to bed when I’m sleepy and get up with an alarm clock at a fixed time. So I always get up at the same time (in my case 5 am), but I go to bed at different times every night — sometimes at 9:30pm, and other times at midnight. Most of the time I go to bed between 10-11 pm.
However, going to bed only when I’m sleepy, and getting up at a fixed time every morning is my way. If you want to become an early riser, you can try your own.
60. According to the passage, the underlined phrase refers to ____.
A. people who stay up until the next morning.
B. people who get up early in the morning.
C. people who feel sleepy in the morning.
D. people whose productivity is the highest in the morning.
61. Why did the author want to become a habitual early riser?
A. Because he / she wanted to form the habit of going to bed early and getting up early.
B. Because he / she had found that his / her productivity was higher when he / she got up early.
C. Because he / she wanted to see which of the two main schools of thought on sleep patterns was right
D. Because he / she was told the high relationship between success and rising early.
62. The author experienced all the following EXCEPT ____.
A. going to bed after midnight
B. getting up early occasionally
C. pressing off the alarm to go on sleeping
D. asking scholars for advice on sleeping habits
63. The passage is mainly about ____.
A. how to become an early riser        B. how to have good sleep
C. wrong strategies for getting up early   D. main schools of thought on sleep patterns

A 14-year-old girl was attacked by a grey bear while competing in a bike race. She managed to whisper the word "bear" to her rescuer. The girl suffered serious head, neck and leg wounds and is now in a dangerous condition in hospital. The girl was taking part in a 24-hour race through Bicentennial Park in Alaska when she was attacked by the bear. Bicentennial Park is next to Chugach State Park where the wild animals live. The bear attacked the girl in a heavily wooded area at about 1:30 am, during the darkest part of the night. The girl called emergency services but she was unable to communicate. While staying with a family, I found their teenage son, David, aged 16, didn’t share his true feelings with his parents. If his parents were present when I asked him how he felt about things, he would look down or away or say something unrelated such as, "Today, I will go out. "or "Okay, I guess. "However, when we were alone he would open up and tell me how he felt. For example, while sitting at the dinner table, I asked him how he felt about his history class and the teacher. He thought for a moment but said nothing. I thought he was afraid to answer in front of his parents, so later I asked him again in private. He said, "On a scale (級(jí)別) of 0-10, it is a big fat zero. He is the most boring teacher I have ever had. "I asked him why he didn’t tell me this earlier. He said it was because his parents didn’t want to hear that. They just wanted to hear that everything was wonderful and they always told him to stop complaining.
This made me think a lot. My belief is that children are born with the desire to share feelings. I also believe they are born with perfect emotional honesty. Unfortunately, such valuable things are disappearing gradually. It really is a great loss, which I believe, will negatively affect both the children’s ability to know about themselves and their success in future relationships.
I see the situation as a missed opportunity, an opportunity for parents to get closer to their children, an opportunity to understand their children and to help them feel understood; however, communication gaps (分歧) have been made. Parents are more interested in "correcting" their children’s ways of expressing themselves than in getting to know their children.
70. We can know from the passage that _________.
A. David is not good at talking  B. David likes showing his true feelings in public
C. David hates his parents      D. David dislikes his history teacher
71. According to the author, children who don’t show their true feelings ____________.
A. won’t succeed in their future careers
B. will not have good relationship with their parents
C. won’t have clear ideas of themselves
D. will have no difficulty getting along with others
72. The author thinks that parents should ____________.
A. stop complaining about their children
B. try to understand their children’s true feelings
C. find more ways to communicate with their children
D. correct their children’s ways of communication

Beggars are often seen sitting under blankets with heads bowed as people pass them by in Cambridge’s market center. Some ask passers-by for change and some just sit and wait to be given money. A few use aggressive behaviour to earn money.
To solve the problem of aggressive begging, an “alternative giving ” plan has been suggested. Ten blue money boxes will be placed in busy places such as the market and the railway station. It aims to encourage people not to give money directly to beggars but instead to give generously to local homeless causes.
Supporters of this plan think it will be an effective way to solve the beggars’ alcohol and drug problems. But the police oppose the plan arguing that beggars who do not receive cash may turn to criminality to feed their addictions. The homeless charity “Crisis” said the success of any plan will depend on its style. They think that imaginative and positive plans can help create local understanding and sympathy instead of hardness. Most of the beggars dislike the plan because they think they will not get enough money from the boxes for their showers, food and clothes.
Begging is a big social problem both in developing and developed countries. Governments must play a big role in solving this problem. Training beggars to work and helping them to find appropriate jobs is one option. This is especially true for developing countries where many low-skill jobs exist.
The general community should also be educated to see beggars not as dirty and dangerous, but as people who need understanding and help.

There are reasons why a middle-aged woman who has been away from the work for her children’s sake decides to go back to work. Money wasn’t too important now, as my husband made a very  19  living for us. But what should I do? What sort of   20  should I look for? I knew I needed to be  21  as to what I became involved with. I am not a "quitter"(容易放棄的人) and so I hoped to  22  becoming responsible to an employer in a job that might turn out to be a mistake for me.
