People lie all the time, but depending on how skilled they are, it can be difficult to determine when someone is lying to you. Do you know how to recognize the signs that someone is lying to you? Some of the signs are obvious while others are more subliminal(難以察覺的), but there are ways to catch someone in a lie, you just need to know what they are.
1) Liars make false eye contact.
A person who is lying to you won't make eye contact with you or they make too much eye contact. If a person is lying they may feel you are watching him and he will look down at the floor or away from your eyes. Some people try to stare you in the face deliberately.
2)Liars avoid using contractions(縮略形式)
The liar will say “I did NOT notice that.” instead of “I didn't notice that.” Usually it ends up making the story a lot less believable.
3)Unnatural Body Language.
Liars often feel uneasy, turn away from the person to whom they are speaking, blink(眨眼) rapidly, smile less and have pitch changes in their tone of voice. They may cross their arms which is a sign of being “closed” or trying not to reveal too much information. They could touch parts of their face, an ear or a nose or play with keys or another item that they have in their hand.
4)Liars provide additional information without being asked for it
The result is the more complicated the story is, the less believable it will be. You will have the feeling that nothing could be further from the truth.
A. This is an attempt by the liar to be absolutely clear what they mean.
B. Here are some easy ways to recognize liars and catch lies.
C. Sometimes people look unnatural when they are lying
D. They will get angry if you doubt their story
E. They seem to think that by telling their story in detail, you will find it more believable.
F. They try to change the subject or move the conversation in a different direction
G. In this way they feel like making eye contact will make what they are saying more believable.

Researchers in China and the United States have developed a new cataract(白內(nèi)障)treatment with cells that has restored vision in babies in a trial and may eventually be used in adults.
The treatment- by doctors and staff members at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine and Sichuan and Sun Yat-sen universities in China-was published in March 9 edition of the scientific journal Nature.
A cataract is a clouding of the normally clear lens(晶體)of an eye. Typical cataract operation involves the removal of the cloudy lens and the insertion of an artificial one. The new operation has been tested in animals and during a small, human trial. It resulted in fewer complications(并發(fā)癥)than the current harmful operation, and in regrown lenses with superior visual function in all 12 of the baby cataract patients who received the procedure.
A congenital cataract- lens clouding that occurs at birth or shortly after- is important cause of blindness in children. In the new research, Kand Zhang, head of ophthalmic genetics at US San Diego's Shiley Eye Institute, and his colleagues relied on the regrown potential of endogenous(同源的)stem cells.
According to Zhang, endogenous stem cells are different from other stem cells that are typically grown in a laboratory, transplanted into a patient, and can have risks of immune(免疫的)rejection, infection or cancers. Zhang told CBS News, “We invented a new operation to make a very small opening at the side of a cataractous lens bag, remove the cataract inside, allow the opening to heal, and promote potential lens stem cells to regrow an entirely new lens with vision.”
The human trial involved 12 babies under the age of 2 who were treated with the new method, while 25 babies received thee standard operation care.. The latter group experienced a higher incidence of pos- operation danger, early- onset eye high blood pressure and increased lens clouding. The scientists reported fewer complications and faster healing among the 12 babies who has the new procedure.
(1)What is the text mainly about?
A.The concept of the cataract
B.A new cataract treatment with stem cells
C.Bad effects of post-operation in the cataract
D.The reasons why the cataract comes into being
(2)Which of the following best describe the new cataract treatment according to the passage?
A.Convenient
B.Comfortable
C.Cheap
D.Safe
(3)What can we learn about the new cataract treatment?
A.It has more risks
B.It may be used widely
C.It has been put into practice widely
D.It can only restore vision in babies
(4)What does the underlined word “congenital” in the fourth paragraph mean?
A.Born
B.Strange
C.Serious
D.Dangerous.

【題目】根據(jù)短文理解,選擇正確答案。
My parents moved to Mississippi when my brother and I were small children, and we were separated from our Oklahoma grandparents by some 600 miles. This long distance allowed us to only visit our grandparents once a year, either at Christmas or during summer vacation.
Most of my classmates lived near their grandparents, and I would often hear stories of big families regularly spending time with one another, fishing at “grandpa's” house or going over to “grandma's”for her famous fried chicken. We were disappointed that we did not get to spend more time with our grandparents, but our love for them remained deep and strong.
We always expected a road trip to Oklahoma. We would count the days, and when the day came, the entire family would pile into our car at four o'clock in the morning. Crossing the Mississippi River into Louisiana, the scenery changed. Crossing the Red River in Oklahoma, we were in a foreign world.
Every trip to see my grandparents can't be without bringing delight. We jumped out of the car in their driveway to be met with bear hugs. My grandparents wanted to know everything about their grandchildren, and we would sit for hours and tell story after story. Grandma had a meal planned, and you could guess she prepared her grandsons' favorite foods. Of course the best part of the visit was that we were able to do whatever we wanted without punishment from our grandparents. Grandma and Grandpa always had presents for us, short trips planned and lovely surprises, such as the time we got to a local restaurant and ate the world's largest hamburger.
(1)Why didn't the family visit their grandparents often?
A.Because they seldom had a vacation.
B.Because they had a bad attitude to them.
C.Because they were all busy with their work.
D.Because they lived far away from each other.
(2)When hearing his classmates' stories, the author __________.
A.often felt deep sorrow
B.would call his grandparents
C.would admire them at heart
D.would feel sorry for his poor life
(3)Whenever the author and his brother met their grandparents, they _________.
A.were full of great excitement
B.found they were in a foreign world
C.shared cooking skills with each other
D.seemed not to be familiar with each other
(4)What can we infer from the author's story?
A.Distance can't break the bond of love.
B.Physical separation hurts the heart deeply.
C.Distance leads to the most beautiful scene.
D.Family life is filled with love and understanding.

【題目】根據(jù)短文理解,選擇正確答案。
What will man be like in the future—in 5,000 or even 50,000 years from now? We can only make a guess, of course, but we can be sure that he will be different from what he is today, for man is slowly changing all the time.
Let us take an obvious example. Man, even five hundred years ago, was shorter than he is today. Now, on average, men are about three inches taller, so we may assume (假定) that man will continue to grow taller. Again, as time goes on, we shall have to use our brains more and more. This is likely to bring about a physical change to the head, in particular, the forehead will grow larger.
Nowadays our eyes are in constant use. In fact, we use them so much that very often they become weaker and we have to wear glasses. But over a very long period of time it is likely that man's eyes will grow stronger.
On the other hand, we are likely to make less use of our arms and legs, which, as a result, are likely to grow weaker. At the same time, however, our fingers will grow more sensitive because they are used a great deal in modern life.
But what about hair? This will probably disappear from the body altogether in course of time because it does not serve a useful purpose any longer.
Perhaps all these give the impression that in the future man will not be a very attractive creature to look at! This may well be true. All the same, in spite of all these changes, future man will still have a lot in common with us.
(1)What does the passage mainly tell us?
A.Man's life will be different in the future.
B.Future man will look quite different from us.
C.Man is growing taller and uglier as time passes.
D.Man's organs' functions will be weaker.
(2)What serves as the evidence that man is changing?
A.Man's hair is getting thinner and thinner.
B.Man has got stronger eyes now than he ever had.
C.Man's arms and legs have become lighter and weaker.
D.Man has been growing taller over the past 500 years.
(3)According to the passage, we can learn that ________.
A.human beings will become less attractive in the future
B.less use of a part of the body will become weaker
C.human beings hope for a change in the future life
D.future life is always predictable

In the summer holiday following my eighteen birthday, I took driving lessons. I still remember how hard first day was. Before getting into the car, I thought I had learned the instructor’s orders, so once I started the car, my mind goes blank, I forgot what he had said to me altogether. The instructor kept repeating the word, “Speed up!” “Slow down!” “Turning left!” I was so much nervous that I could hardly tell which direction was left. A few minutes late, the instructor asked me to stop the car. It was a relief and I came to a suddenly stop just in the middle on the road.
