【題目】The past ages of man have all been carefully labeled by anthropologists(人類學(xué)家). Descriptions like “Paleolithic(舊石器時代) Man”, “Neolithic(新石器時代) Man”, etc., neatly sum up whole periods. When the time comes for anthropologists to turn their attention to the twenty-first century, they will surely choose the label “Legless Man”. Histories of the time will go something like this: “In the twenty-first century, people forgot how to use their legs. Men and women moved about in cars, buses and trains from a very early age. There were lifts in all large buildings to prevent people from walking. And the surprising thing is that they didn’t use their legs even when they went on holiday. They built cable railways, ski-lifts and roads to the top of every huge mountain. All the beauty spots on earth were ruined by the presence of large car parks.”

The future history books might also record that we lost the right of using our eyes. In our hurry to get from one place to another, we failed to see anything on the way. Air travel gives you a bird’s-eye view of the world or even less if the wing of the aircraft happens to get in your way. When you travel by car or train, the unclear picture of the countryside constantly slides over the window. When you mention the most impressive place-names in the world, the typical 21st century traveler always says “I’ve been there.”—meaning “I drove through it at 100 miles an hour on the way to somewhere else.”

When you travel at high speeds, the present means nothing: you live mainly in the future because you spend most of your time looking forward to arriving at some other place. But actual arrival, when it is achieved, is meaningless. You want to move on again. By traveling like this, you skip all experience. The traveler on foot, on the other hand, lives in the present. For him traveling and arriving are one and the same thing: he arrives somewhere with every step he makes. He experiences the present moment with his eyes, his ears and the whole of his body. At the end of his journey he feels a delicious physical tiredness. Satisfying sleep will be his: the just reward of all true travelers.

1Anthropologists name man nowadays “Legless Man” because _________.

A. people prefer cars, buses and trains

B. people travel without using legs

C. lifts prevent people from walking

D. people use their legs less and less

2According to the passage, what might make people lose the right of using their eyes?

A. The modern means of transportation. B. A bird’s-eye view of the world.

C. The unclear sight from the vehicles. D. The fast-paced life style.

3From the passage, we know traveling at high speeds means _________.

A. appreciating beautiful scenery B. experiencing life skills

C. focusing on the next destination D. feeling physical tiredness

4What does the author intend to tell us?

A. Modern transportation devices have replaced legs.

B. Traveling makes the world a small place.

C. Human’s history develops very fast.

D. The best way to travel is on foot.

【題目】根據(jù)短文理解,選擇正確答案。
Body language is one of the most powerful means of communication, often even more powerful than spoken language. It is said that our body movements communicate about 50 percent of what we really mean while words only express 7 percent. So, while your mouth is closed, your body is just saying.
Arms. How you hold your arms shows how open and receptive you are to people you meet. If you keep your arms to the sides of your body or behind your back, this suggests you are not afraid of taking on whatever comes your way. Outgoing people generally use their arms with big movements, while quieter people keep them close to their bodies. If someone upsets you, just cross your arms to show you're unhappy!
Head. When you want to appear confident, keep your head level. If you are a monitor in class, you can also take on this position when you want your words to be taken seriously. However, to be friendly in listening or speaking, you must move your head a little.
Legs. Your legs tend to move around a lot more than normal when you are nervous or telling lies. If you are at interviews, try to keep them still!
Posture (姿勢). A good posture makes you feel better about yourself. If you are feeling down, you normally don't sit straight, with your shoulders inwards. This makes breathing more difficult, which can make you feel nervous or uncomfortable.
Mouth. When you are thinking, you often purse(噘嘴) your lips. You might also use this position to hold back an angry comment you don't wish to show. However, it will probably still be noticed, and people will know you're not pleased.
Face. When you lie, you might put on a false face. But that expression would crack briefly, allowing displays of true emotions such as happiness, sadness, disgust (厭惡) and fear to come through.
(1)When someone is keeping his arms behind his back, he tries to tell you that ________.
A.he is angry
B.he is outgoing
C.he is cool
D.he is not afraid
(2)If you want to appear confident, you should ________.
A.cross your arms
B.move your head a little
C.keep your head level
D.move your arms a lot
(3)Which of the following movements shows someone is nervous?
A.Not sitting straight with the shoulders inwards.
B.Moving around a lot more than normal.
C.Keeping the arms to the sides of the body.
D.Having the lips pursed to hold back an angry comment.
(4)What can we infer from the passage?
A.Body language can express more meanings than words do in communication.
B.It's not polite to use body language in formal communication.
C.Different people in different countries must have the same understanding of the same body movement.
D.We cannot communicate with others without words.

Friendship is a very important human relationship and everyone needs good friends. Good friendship has many benefits. It offers companionship, improves self-worth and promotes (促進(jìn)) good health. There are times in our lives such as when we have recently moved into a new town, or changed our jobs or schools. Such changes often leave us without a friend. But for many of us the process is difficult and requires courage. Below are some helpful suggestions on how to make and keep friends.
● Associate with (與……交往) others.
The first step to making friends is associating with other people. You can go to public places to meet new people. Besides, you will need to make yourself known by becoming an active member of such places.
● Start a conversation.
Starting a conversation is the second most important step in making new friends. You can always start the conversation. Being able to make small talk is a very useful skill in relating with other people.

Choosing friends with common interests is important in building friendship as these interests would always bring you and your friend together. Hanging out (閑逛) will always be a pleasant experience.
● Let it grow.
It is a good thing to stay in touch. However, try not to press your new friend with calls, messages or visits as this would likely wear him or her out and finally you may lose your friend. The best friendships are the ones that grow naturally.
● Enjoy your friendship.
The best way to enjoy your friendship is to allow your friends to be themselves. Try not to change them from who they are to what you want them to be. Become the kind of friend you will want your friend to be to you.
A. Do things together.
B. Be cheerful.
C. Making new friends comes easy for some people.
D. So you will need to give your friend time to respond to you.

【題目】根據(jù)短文理解,選擇正確答案。
Some educators told us that more years of school could help students get higher scores on intelligence tests. That was a finding of a study of teenage males in some countries. Now, another research shows that physical activity may help students do better in their classes.
The research comes as educators in some countries are reducing time for activities like physical education. They are using the time instead for academic(學(xué)術(shù)的)subjects like math and reading. The studies appeared between 2008 and 2014. They included more than 55, 000 children, aged 6 to 18.
Amika Singh:“ According to the results of our study, we can conclude that being physically active is beneficial for academic performance. There are, first, Physiological explanations, like more blood flow, and so more oxygen to the brain. Being physically active means there are more hormones(荷爾蒙)produced like endorphins(內(nèi)啡肽). And endorphins make your stress level lower and your mood improved, which means you also perform better.”
Also, students taking part in organized sports learn rules and how to follow them. This could improve their classroom behavior and help them keep their mind on their work.
The study leaves some questions unanswered, however. Ms. Stash says it is not possible to say whether the amount or kind of activity affected the level of academic improvement. This is because of differences among the studies.
The researchers said they found only two high-quality studies. They needed more high-quality studies to confirm (證實) their findings. They also pointed out that “results for other parts of the world may be quite different.”
Still, the general finding was that physically active kids are more likely to do better in school. Ms. Singh says schools should consider that finding before they cut physical education programs. Her paper on “Physical Activity and Performance at School” is published in the Archives of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine.
(1)The passage mainly tells us that ________.
A.a research on physical education has been done by the researchers
B.there is a possibility that physical activity leads to higher grades
C.the amount or kind of activity directly affects academic level
D.the research shows that the children aged 6 to 18 don't do sports
(2)Which of the following is TRUE?
A.Being mentally active is good for academic subjects.
B.The more hormones you have, the more stressed you will get.
C.The researchers have found many high-quality studies to prove the research.
D.The educators in some countries think studies, not exercise, mean much to students.
(3)The underlined sentence in Paragraph 6 probably means ________.
A.good marks result from high-quality study.
B.findings are probably different in different areas.
C.physical activity will spread all over the world.
D.academic performance depends on the surroundings.
(4)What's the purpose of writing the passage?
A.To call our attention to the sports at school.
B.To introduce all types of physical activities.
C.To represent the academic performance.
D.To improve students' health.

【題目】根據(jù)短文理解,選擇正確答案。
Many years ago, I made a living by driving a car. One night I went to pick up a passenger at 2:30 am. When I arrived to collect, I found the building was dark except for a single light in a ground floor window.
I walked to the door and knocked.“Just a minute,” answered a weak, elderly voice.
After a long pause, the door opened. A small woman in her eighties stood before me. By her side was a small suitcase.
I took the suitcase to the car, and then returned to help the woman. She took my arm and we walked slowly towards the car.
She kept thanking me for my kindness.“It's nothing,” I told her, “I just try to treat my passengers in the way I would want my mother treated.”
“Oh, you're such a good man,” she said. When we got into the taxi, she gave me an address, and then asked, “Could you drive through downtown?”
“It's not the shortest way,” I answered quickly.
“Oh, I'm in no hurry,” she said.“I'm on my way to a hospice(臨終醫(yī)院). I don't have any family left. The doctor says I don't have very long time.”
I quietly reached over and shut off the meter(計價器).
For the next two hours, we drove through the city. She showed me the building where she had once worked, the neighborhood where she had lived, and the furniture shop that had once been a ballroom where she had gone dancing as a girl.
Sometimes she'd ask me to slow down in front of a particular building and would sit staring into the darkness, saying nothing.
At dawn, she suddenly said, “I'm tired. Let's go now.”
We drove in silence to the address she had given me.
“How much do I owe you?”she asked.
“Nothing,” I said.
“You have to make a living,” she answered.“Oh, there are other passengers, ”I answered.
Almost without thinking, I bent and gave her a hug. She held onto me tightly. Our hug ended with her remark, “You gave an old woman a little moment of joy.”
(1)The old woman chose to ride through the city in order to ______.
A.show she was familiar with the city
B.see some places for the last time
C.let the driver earn more money
D.reach the destination on time
(2)Which of the following statements is Not true?
A.The old lady didn't have very long time.
B.The old lady was on her way to her daughter's home.
C.The taxi driver gave the old woman a little moment of joy.
D.The taxi driver didn't charge the old lady any money.
