【題目】Directions: Read the following passage. Summarize the main idea and the main point(s) of the passage in no more than 60 words. Use your own words as far as possible.

The Dangerous Downsides of Perfectionism

In one of my earliest memories, I’m drawing. I don’t remember what the picture is supposed to be, but I remember the mistake. My marker slips, an unintentional line appears and my lip trembles. The picture has long since disappeared. But that feeling of deep frustration, even shame, stays with me.

That’s the thing about perfectionism, a crucially self-defeating way to move through the world. It makes you better at your career and relationships and life in general. Culturally, we often see perfectionism as a positive.

But the disadvantage of perfectionism isn’t just that it holds you back from being your most successful, productive-self. Perfectionistic tendencies have been linked to a long list of clinical issues: depression, social anxiety disorder, eating disorders, and most damaging of all, suicide (自殺).

“Based upon the 60-odd studies that we’ve done, the higher the perfectionism is, the more psychological disorders you’re going to suffer,” says York St John University’s Hill. “Factors often labeled ‘healthy’ perfectionism, like striving for excellence, aren’t actually perfectionism at all. They’re just conscientiousness (盡職盡責)—which explains why people with those tendencies often have different results in studies. Perfectionism isn’t interpreted by working hard or setting high goals. It’s that critical inner voice.”

Take the student who works hard and gets a poor mark. If she tells herself, “I’m disappointed, but it’s okay; I’m still a good person overall,” that’s healthy. If the message is, “I’m a failure. I’m not good enough,” that’s perfectionism.

Perfectionists can make smooth sailing into a storm, a brief ill wind into a category-five hurricane. Eventually, the behaviours perfectionists adapt, actually, do make them more likely to fail.

FIu can be spread by an infected person for several days before their symptoms appear. As for the novel coronavirus, spread might be possible before people show symptomsbut this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads.

For the novel coronavirus, there is also a risk for aerosol transmission(氣溶膠傳播)In health facilitiespeople may catch the virus if they breathed in aerosol, the suspension of find solid or liquid particles in the air, which have been contaminated by the virus. The novel coronavirus has also been found in patients’ fecal (排泄物) samples, but fecal-oral transmission does not appear to be a major transmission route.

【題目】Four simple ways to stay positive

Trying to stay positive, both in good times and bad, is a great way to improve your quality of life. Try these four methods on a daily basis.

1. Don’t think a lot about negativity.

Of course, staying positive 24 hours a day, seven days a week is a bit difficult. Letting things get to you is normal, and it’s actually healthy to cry or express frustrations once in a while.

It’s when those negative moments control your life that your emotional balance is at risk. 1 However, don’t give that sadness another second in your day.

2. 2

What you put into your body directly affects how you feel on the outside. Fill yourself with good, healthy foods like fruits and vegetables and limit snacking. Exercise is equally of great importance. Take a few days out of your week for at least half an hour of activity, and try to stick to a routine. 3

3. Be kind to others.

4 Making someone’s day a bit brighter not only puts a smile on his or her face, but also yours as well. Remember to smile and treat each person with pity and respect. Good deeds are contagious (傳染的) , and your positive attitude may spread among others.

4. Take it one day at a time.

Being positive isn’t an instant thing. It’s a steady effort that we follow every hour of every day. 5 Instead, focus on living in the moment and doing what you can to make each moment better.

A.Eat healthily and stay fit.

B.Take your lunch breaks outside.

C.Don’t worry about what the future may bring.

D.Gratitude helps you appreciate life in bad times.

E.Take a few minutes to feel sad and accept what happened.

F.Good feelings come from acts of kindness and selflessness.

G.Even going outside for a walk and enjoying the sunshine improves your mood.

【題目】Directions: Read the following passage. Fill in each blank with a proper sentence given in the box. Each sentence can be used only once. Note that there are two more sentences than you need.

For Self-driving Cars, Car Washes are a Nightmare

Car washes have been automated for decades, but companies developing fully self-driving vehicles must rely on a human touch to keep their cars and trucks in working condition.

1 For example, soap remainder or water spots could effectively “blind” a self-driving car. A traditional car wash’s heavy brushes could jar the vehicle’s sensors, disturbing their standardization and accuracy. Even worse, sensors, which can cost over $100,000, could be broken. 2 Dirt, dead bugs, bird droppings or water spots can impact the vehicle’s ability to drive safely.

Avis, which has years of experience managing rental cars, has been tasked with cleaning and refueling the self-driving vans of Waymo, the self-driving arm of Google’s parent company. Avis chief innovation officer Arthur Ordua told CNN, “There are special processes that definitely require a lot more care and focus, and you have to clean the vans quite often.”

3 But other self-driving car companies such as Toyota, Aptiv, Drive, AI and Uber described to CNN that they use microfiber (微纖維) cloths along with rubbing alcohol, water or glass cleaner for manual cleanings.

4 This should ease some need for manual cleaning. But because self-driving vehicles can have dozens of sensors, Seeva CEO Diane Lansinger doesn’t imagine products like this will be able to clean every camera, radar or LIDAR, a laser sensor that most experts see as essential for self-driving vehicles.

A. The sensors on a fully self-driving car require special care.

B. Ordua wouldn’t reveal exactly how they’re washing the vehicles.

C. The most advanced cars on the planet require an old-fashioned handwashing.

D. Meanwhile, some companies, such as Cruise, are building sensor cleaning equipment into their vehicles.

E. There are a range of problems with putting a self-driving vehicle through a traditional car wash, experts say.

F. A self-driving vehicle’s external needs to be cleaned even more frequently than a typical car because the sensors must remain free of obstacles.

【題目】With only about 1,000 pandas left in the world, China is desperately trying to clone (克隆) the animal and save the endangered species (物種). That’s a move similar to what a Texas A & M University researchers have been undertaking for the past five years in a project called “Noah’s Ark”.

Noah’s Ark is aimed at collecting eggs, embryos(胚胎), semen and DNA of endangered animals and storing them in liquid nitrogen. If certain species should become extinct, Dr. Duane Kraemer, a professor in Texas A& M’s College of Veterinary Medicine, says there would be enough of the basic building blocks to reintroduce the species in the future.

It is estimated that as many as 2,000 species of mammals, birds reptiles will become extinct in over 100 years. The panda, native only to China, is in danger of becoming extinct in the next 25 years.

This week, Chinese scientists said they grew an embryo by introducing cells from a dead female panda into the egg cells of a Japanese white rabbit. They are now trying to implant the embryo into a host animal.

The entire procedure could take from three to five years to complete.

“The nuclear transfer (核子移植) of one species to another is not easy, and the lack of available (capable of being used) panda eggs could be a major problem,” Kraemer believes. “They will probably have to do several hundred transfers to result in one pregnancy (having a baby). It takes a long time and ifs difficult, but this could be groundbreaking science if it works. They are certainly not putting any live pandas at risk, so it is worth the effort, adds Kraemer, who is one of the leaders of the Project at Texas A& M, the first-ever attempt at cloning a dog.

“They are trying to do something that’s never been done, and this is very similar to our work in Noah’s Ark. We’re both trying to save animals that face extinction. I certainly appreciate their effort and there’s a lot we can learn from what they are attempting to do. It’s a research that is very much needed.”

1The aim of “Noah’s Ark” project is to ________.

A. make efforts to clone the endangered pandas

B. save endangered animals from dying out

C. collect DNA of endangered animals to study

D. transfer the nuclear of one animal to another

2According to Professor Kraemer, the major problem in cloning pandas would be the lack of ________.

A. available panda eggs B. host animals

C. qualified researchers D. enough money

3The best title for the passage may be ________.

A. China’s Success in Pandas Cloning

B. The First Cloned Panda in the World

C. Exploring the Possibility to Clone Pandas

D. China —the Native Place of Pandas Forever

4From the passage we know that ________.

A. Kraemer and his team have succeeded in cloning a dog

B. scientists try to implant a panda’s egg into a rabbit

C. Kraemer will work with Chinese scientists in clone researches

D. about two thousand of species will probably die out in a century
