Once in a village, the villagers built a new church building and people came from far and wide to see it.
They admired its beauty! They said it was the most beautiful building in the world. Up on the roof, a little nail
heard the people praising everything about the lovely structure - except the nail! No one even knew he was
there, and he became very angry and sad.
"If I am not important, nobody will miss me if I quit!" So the nail then released (松開(kāi)) its hold, got down
from the roof, and fell into the mud.
That night it rained and rained. Soon, the board that had no nail was blown away, and the roof began to
leak (漏水). The water flowed down along the walls and over the beautiful pictures on the walls. The plaster (石膏) began to fall, the floor was ruined, and the Bible was also ruined by water. All this was because a little
nail decided to quit!
But what of the nail? While holding the board, it was not known by others but it was useful. Buried in the
mud now, it was useless and would soon be eaten up by rust!
What the story wants to say is that every member is important to a whole group!
You may, like the nail, feel not important at times, but just like the nail, your absence is felt. A big building
might fall to pieces. You are important to a group even if you are small.

One afternoon, many years ago, I went to pick up my mother from work. I got there a little early so I 1 the car by the roadside, across the street from where she worked, and 2 for her. As I 3 outside the car window, to my fight there was a small park where I saw a little boy around two years old. He was running freely on the 4 as his mother watched him from a short distance. The boy had a big 5 on his face as if he had just been set 6 from some sort of prison. The boy would then fail to the grass, get up, and without looking back at his mother, run as 7 as he could again, still with a smile on his face, as if 8 had happened. When kids, especially at an early age, fall down, they don' t see their falling down as a 9 , but instead, they treat it as a 10 experience. They have the desire to try and try again 11 they succeed~ The answer must be that they have not 12 "falling down" with the word"failure" yet. Thus they don't know 13 to feel the state which accompanies failure. What' s more, they probably think that it' s perfectly Okay to fall down, and that it's not 14 to do So. In other words, they give themselves 15 to make mistakes subconsciously (潛意識(shí)地). Thus they 16 encouraged. While I was touched by the boy' s persistence, I was 17 touched by the manner in which he ran. With each 18 , he looked so confident.., so natural. No 19 of fear, of nervousness, or of being discouraged -as if he didn' t have a 20 about the world around him. I learned a lot from that observation and experience, and have successfully brought that lesson with me in my many pursuits in life. | ||||

About one year ago, a couple with three children moved into the apartment next door to me. I never heard any noise from the children. Instead, I often heard the parents yelling 1 at the kids, not in a nice tone, but in a 2 one. We often 3 in the hallway. I always greeted them, but the only 4 I ever got was a"hello" from the eight-year-old girl. I usually 5 to see my doctor and one day when I returned they were just 6 their apartment and the little girl was 7 the outside door open for the others. I 8 in the car doing 9 things because I wasn't eager to be snubbed (冷落) again. Finally, I got out of my car and walked towards the door. The parents were telling their daughter to hurry and get into the car, 10 the little girl was still holding the door, 11 me! I hurried although I was still in pain from my injury. I forgot to tell her how 12 I was for her kindness. I wrote a note saying how much her act of kindness had 13 an old man's heart. The next day there was a 14 on my door and it was the little girl and her father. She was quite 15 of her behavior and thanked me. Then I noticed her mother standing there too. Her parents 16 me. From then on when we met in the hallway we always greeted each other,in a friendly 17 . Last night there was a heavy snow.
