Choosing the right job is probably one of the most important decisions we have to make in life, and it is frequently one of the hardest decisions we have to make.
There are people who can answer an insignificant(無關(guān)緊要) advertisement in the local paper and land the best job in the world; others writes to all sorts of places, and never seem to get a reply at all,and then there are those who, through no active decision of their own, just seem to be in the right place at the right time. He used to spend a lot of his free time down by the sea watching the tall ships, but never thinking that he might one day sail one of them. One day, on his usual wandering, he heard the captain of a ship complaining that he could not sail because one member of his crew was sick. Without stopping to think, the young man offered to take his place.
This story also illustrates the importance of seizing an opportunity when it presents itself. If the young man had gone home to ponder(考慮) his decision for a week, he might have missed his chance. It is one thing to be offered an opportunity.
Sometimes we hear stories about people who break all rules and still seem to land the well-paid jobs. When you go for a jod interview or fill out an application, you are expected to say nice things about the company to which you are applying. And within a year this person had become general manager of the company.
A.But there was one person who landed an excellent job by telling the interviewer all the company’s faults.
B.It is very important to seize an opportunity when it presents itself.
C.It is another thing to take it and use it well.
D.He spent the rest of his life happily sailing the ships he had always loved.
E.It’s almost impossible to find a good job by answering advertisements in newspapers.
F.Take the young man who wanted to be a sailor for example.
G.People find jobs in a great number of ways.

“It was cool, because I got a chance to be in a studio and see how a record is made,”says 14-year-old Javon Martin, who joined the music clubhouse 3 years ago.“It has impacted my life in a big way. People are actually starting to see me as an artist.”Ten-year-old Akheylah Hunter didn’t play an instrument when she became a club member last year. Now,she plays piano and sings with the band. What she likes best, she says,is performing.“We performed in different places,”she says.“We go on trips and it is fun.”
Since the Music Clubhouse opened three years ago,it’s served almost 500 kids.Aggeler says performing in front of different audiences helps the young musicians build self-esteem.Coming to the club to prepare for those performances helps them learn how to deal with their personal problems and concerns.
“I can see what it does for them and it just develops confidence,”he explains.“It’s also an escape from the big problems we have in the neighborhood. So whether they feel embarrassed about a zit on their face,or they feel embarrassed because they’re not as tall as somebody, they can rap about it and let it out a little bit.”
To expand the club and help more kids learn music,Aggeler sought the support of the community. The Berklee College of Music and local music stores have provided free equipment. The club has also gotten support from the Music and Youth Initiative,a nonprofit that develops after school music education programs in underserved communities in Massachusetts. All these have made it possible to provide kids who may not have the means to get private music lessons the opportunity to still learn music and get all the benefits that music education brings.”
