The History of the Internet
The 1990s saw great changes in the way people communicate. People could send mail without going to the post office, and go shopping without leaving home. Words like e-mail and download became part of people’s vocabulary. 71
The idea for the Internet began in the early 1960s in the United States. The Department of Defense wanted to connect their computers together in order to share private information. In 1969, the ARPA net (an early form of the Internet) first connected computers at four American universities. One computer successfully sent information to another. In 1972, scientists shared ARPA net with the world. They created a way to send person-to-person messages using ARPA net. 72
Over the next few years, there was a lot of progress made in the world of computing. 73 Then, in the 1980s, personal computers became more common. In the early 1990s, two important things happened: the birth of the World Wide in 1991, and the creation of the first Wed browser in 1993. The World Wide Web make it easier to find information on the Internet, and to move from place to place using links. 74
Today, millions of people connect to the Internet to send e-mail, visit websites, or store information on servers. The Internet is now an important part of our lives. 75
A.Therefore, computers were so popular that most Americans used the Internet.
B.It is changing how we lean, work, shop, and communicate.
C.This was the beginning of e-mail.
D.The cause of this great change was the Internet.
E.However, most people were not using the Internet.
F.It will promote the development of science and technology in the future.
G.The Web browser made it possible to see information as a web site with pictures, sound, and words.

As the pace of life continues to increase, we are getting more and more stressed and we are fast losing the art of relaxation. Once you are in the habit of rushing through life, being on the go from morning till night, it is hard to slow down. But learning to live with a certain amount of stress is of great significance while relaxation is completely necessary for a healthy mind and body.
Stress is a natural part of everyday life and there is no way to avoid it. In fact, it is not the bad thing as it is often supposed to be. A certain amount of stress is vital to provide motivation and give purpose to life. It is only when the stress gets out of control that it can lead to poor performance and ill health.
The amount of stress a person can withstand(經(jīng)受。ヾepends very much on the individual. Some people are not afraid of stress, and such characters are obviously prime material for managerial. Others lose heart at the first signs of unusual difficulties. When exposed to stress, in whatever form, we react both chemically and physically. In fact, we make a choice between “fight ” and “flight” and in more primitive days, the choice made the difference between life and death. The crises(危機(jī))we meet today are unlikely to be so extreme, but however little the stress, it involves the same response. It is when such a reaction lasts long, through continued exposure to stress, that health becomes endangered. Such serious conditions as high blood pressure and heart disease have formed links with stress.
Since we cannot remove stress from our lives (it would be unwise to do so even if we could), we need to find ways to deal with it to keep our mind and body healthy.
83.What does the author mainly want to tell us in this passage?
A.Relaxation is necessary for our health.
B.We should get rid of stress in a proper way.
C.Long lasting stress usually leads to serious diseases.
D.We should learn to live with a certain amount of stress.
84.The underlined sentence in Paragraph 3 probably means that .
A.even a little stress causes us to make a choice between life and death
B.we react both chemically and physically though we are under slight pressure
C.we must answer whether we should remove the stress no matter how small it is
D.the stress is not big but it can lead to serious heart disease or high blood pressure
85.Which of the following shows the organization of the passage?
CP: Central Point P: Point SP: Sub-point(次要點(diǎn)) C: Conclusion

Every year in the first week of English class, some students inform me that writing is too hard. They never write, unless homework requires it. They find the writing process painful and difficult.
How awful it is to be able to speak in a language, but not to write in it, especially with its rich vocabulary. Being able to speak but not write is like living in an enormous mansion and never leaving one small room. When I meet students who think they can’t write, I know, as a teacher, my duty is to show them the rest of the rooms. My task is to build fluency and accuracy while providing the opportunity in any writing activity to enhance(增強(qiáng))the moral and emotional development of my students.
One great way to do this is by having students write in a journal in class every day.
Writing ability is like strength training. Writing needs to be done just like exercise; just as muscles grow stronger with exercise, writing skills improve quickly with writing practice daily. I often see a rise in student confidence and performance after only a few weeks of journal writing.
Expressing oneself in writing is one of the most important skills I teach to strengthen the whole student. When my students practice journal writing, they are practicing for their future academic, political, and emotional lives. They build skills so that some say they might write a great novel, a piece of sorely needed legislation(法規(guī)), or the perfect love letter. That they write in their journals every day puts them a step closer to fluency, eloquence(雄辯)and command of the language.
80.What is the purpose of the passage?
A.To encourage students to keep a journal every day.
B.To analyze students’ problems in learning languages.
C.To stress the importance of writing in language learning.
D.To introduce an effective way of improving students’ writing.
81.The underlined phrase “an enormous mansion” in Paragraph 2 refers to students’ .
A.writing opportunity B.large house
C.large vocabulary D.emotional life
82.In the author’s view, what can students benefit from the journal writing?
A.It is beneficial to students’ future career.
B.It can make students more emotional.
C.It is helpful to students’ homework.
D.It can enlarge students’ vocabulary.

Besides calling 911, here is what to do in some life-threatening emergencies when no one is
|
First, you’ve got to acknowledge you’re in trouble. Stay where
you can be seen clearly and remember to rest. Keeping a sense
of humor helps too—it reduces stress and helps creative thinking.
In a wide open area, make a colorful cross out of rocks to show
your present position.
|
Aim to hit the top of the chair against your stomach, in the soft part
below the bony upside-down V of the ribs(肋骨). Make a sudden
push against the chair. If you still can’t breathe after six tries, call 911,
even if you can’t talk. Write the word choking somewhere nearby, and
leave the line open until help arrives.
|
Use your hand or clean cotton, or paper towels, or a scarf,
or any cloth you can find, and push down on the wound
until the bleeding stops. But if you put a band around
your leg tightly, you’re going to close the vessels(血管)
to the entire leg. In this way, you could lose your foot.
Bear attack
|
Instead, stand up and back away slowly, without looking the
bear in the eyes. If it does charge at you, stick out your chest,
raise your arms, and spread your legs. Shout at the bear, to
frighten it. If it’s going to attack, lie facedown, with your hands
held firmly behind your neck. Play dead until you’re sure the bear
is gone.
76.When you see a colorful cross made of rocks in the wilderness, you know .
A.someone is bleeding B.someone is choking
C.someone is lost D.someone is attacked by a bear
77.If you are still choking after six tries, you should .
A.keep a sense of humor B.call 911 and leave the line open
C.use your hand our clean cotton D.lie down with your hands behind your neck
78.Don’t tie around your bleeding leg tightly, or you could .
A.stop bleeding B.reduce stress
C.lose your foot D.cause breathlessness
79.The passage is mainly teaching us how to .
A.survive the emergencies B.a(chǎn)void a bear attack
C.deal with a choke D.find our way

For Sparky, school was all but impossible. He failed every subject in the eighth grade. He flunked physics in high school, getting a grade of zero. Sparky also flunked Latin, algebra and English. He didn't do much better in sports. Although he did manage to make the school's golf team, he promptly lost the only important match of the season. There was a consolation(安慰) match; he lost that, too.
Throughout his youth Sparky was awkward socially. He was not actually disliked by the other students; no one cared that much. He was astonished if a classmate ever said hello to him outside of school hours. There's no way to tell how he might have done at dating. Sparky never once asked a girl to go out in high school. He was too afraid of being turned down.
Sparky was a loser. He, his classmates...everyone knew it. So he rolled with it. Sparky had made up his mind early in life that if things were meant to work out, they would. Otherwise he would content himself with what appeared to be his inevitable mediocrity(平凡).
However, one thing was important to Sparky - drawing. He was proud of his artwork. Of course, no one else appreciated it. In his senior year of high school, he submitted some cartoons to the editors of the Yearbook. Although the cartoons were turned down., Sparky was so convinced of his ability that he decided to become an artist.
After completing high school, he wrote a letter to Walt Disney Studios. He was told to send some samples of his artwork, and the subject for a cartoon was suggested. Sparky spent a great deal of time on it. Finally, the reply came from Disney Studios. He had been rejected once again. Another loss for the loser.
So Sparky decided to write his own autobiography(自傳) in cartoons. He described his childhood - a little boy loser and chronic underachiever. The cartoon character would soon become famous worldwide. For Sparky, the boy who had such a lack of success in school and whose work was rejected again and again, was Charles Schultz. He created the Peanuts comic strip(連環(huán)漫畫) and the little cartoon character whose kite would never fly and who never succeeded in kicking a football--Charlie Brown.

74.His only success mentioned in this passage is .
