[1]Each of our experiences has impact on us, either in a positive way or a negative way. Negative experiences can leave us troubled and disillusioned(幻想破滅的);however, positive experiences can greatly improve our optimism and daily motivation, which is the fuel that drives us to improve our lives and achieve our goals. Here are some ways to increase your daily motivation so you can achieve more in your life:

[2]Having goals is vital. They are the key motivators that drive you to succeed. A life without goals is like a boat without a rudder drifting with no direction and no end destination. Meaningful goals motivate you to take inspiring action toward achieving what you desire and keep you focused and driven when you come across challenges and difficulties. When setting any goal, it is very important however, to take small progressive steps toward achieving it.         small steps will prevent you becoming overwhelmed(不知所措的)and help you maintain a positive attitude to keep you moving forward.

[3]A positive attitude will help keep you motivated to continually move forward toward your goal while a negative attitude will damage any chance of success. If you believe that your goal is too difficult and that you won’t achieve it, then I can say for certain that you will be right. Your mind is extremely powerful, and you’d be a fool to underestimate it. Feed it with positive thoughts and it will grant you whatever you want.

[4]We’ve all been given the greatest gift of all…and that’s the gift of life! None of us will be on this planet forever, so is there a greater motivation than living life to the full and getting the very most out of every day?

[5]Having daily inspiration to live life to the full and achieve all we can is what none of us should pass up. If you want to become what you’ve always wanted to be then you have to do whatever it takes to make it happen.

Maybe ten-year-old Elizabeth put it best when she said to her father, “But, Dad, you can’t be healthy if you’re dead.”

Dad, in a hurry to get home before dark so he could go for a run, had forgotten to wear his safety belt- a mistake 75% of the US population make every day. The big question is why.

There have been many myths about safety belts ever since their first appearance in cars some forty years ago. The following are three of the most common.

Myth Number One: It’s best to be “thrown clear” of a serious accident.

Truth: Sorry, but any accident serious enough to “throw you clear” is also going to be serious enough to give you a very bad landing. And chances are that you’ll have traveled through a wind shield (擋風玻璃)or door to do it. Studies show that chances of dying after a car accident are twenty-five times greater in cases where people are “thrown clear".

Myth Number Two: Safety belts “trap” people in cars that are burning or sinking in water.

Truth: Sorry again, but studies show that people knocked unconscious(昏迷)due to not wearing safety belts have a greater chance of dying in these accidents. People wearing safety belts are usually protected to the point of having a clear head to free themselves from such dangerous situations, not to be trapped in them.

Myth Number Three: Safety belts aren’t needed at speeds of less than 30 miles per hour.

Truth: When two cars traveling at 30 mph hit each other, an unbelted driver would meet the windshield with a force equal to diving headfirst into the ground from a height of 10 meters.

71. Why did Elizabeth say to her father, “But, Dad, you can’t be healthy if you’re dead”?

A. He was driving at great speed.

B. He was running across the street.

C. He didn’t have his safety belt on.

D. He didn’t take his medicine on time.

72. The reason Father was in a hurry to get home was that he __________,

A. wasn’t feeling very well

B. hated to drive in the dark

C. wanted to take some exercise

D. didn’t want to be caught by the police

73. According to the text, the “thrown clear” of a serious accident is very dangerous because you _________.

    A. may be knocked down by other cars

B. may get seriously hurt being thrown out of the car

C. may find it impossible to get away from the seat

D. may get caught in the car door

74. Some people prefer to drive without wearing a safety belt because they believe ________.

    A. the belt prevents them from escaping in an accident

B. they will be unable to think clearly in an accident

C. they will be caught when help comes

D. cars catch fire easily

75. what is the advice given in the text?
  A. Never drive faster than 30 mile an hour.
  B. Try your best to save yourself in a car accident.
  C. Never forget to wear the safety belt while driving.
  D. Drive slowly while you're not wearing a safety belt.

The longest bull run in a century of art-market history ended on a dramatic note with a sale of 56 works by Damien Hirst, Beautiful Inside My Head Forever, at Sotheby’s in London on September 15th 2008. All but two pieces sold, fetching more than £70m, a record for a sale by a single artist. It was a last victory. As the auctioneer called out bids, in New York one of the oldest banks on Wall Street, Lehman Brothers, filed for bankruptcy, starting the most severe financial crisis since the 1920s.

The world art market had already been losing momentum(勢頭) for a while after rising confusingly since 2003. At its peak in 2007 it was worth some $65 billion, thinks Clare McAndrew, founder of Arts Economics, a research firm — double the figure five years earlier. Since then it may have come down to $50 billion. But the market generates interest far beyond its size because it brings together great wealth, enormous egos(自負), greed, passion and controversy in a way matched by few other industries.

In the weeks and months that followed Mr. Hirst’s sale, spending of any sort became deeply unfashionable. In the art world that meant collectors stayed away from galleries and salerooms. Sales of contemporary art fell by two-thirds, and in the most overheated sector, they were down by nearly 90% in the year to November 2008. Within weeks the world’s two biggest auction houses, Sotheby’s and Christie’s, had to pay out nearly $200m in guarantees to clients who had placed works for sale with them.

The current downturn in the art market is the worst since the Japanese stopped buying Impressionists at the end of 1989. This time experts suppose that prices are about 40% down on their peak on average, though some have been far more volatile (動蕩的). But Edward Dolman, Christie’s chief executive, says, “I’m pretty confident we’re at the bottom.”

What makes this fall different from the last, he says, is that there are still buyers in the market, while in the early 1990s, when interest rates were high, there was no demand even though many collectors wanted to sell. Christie’s earnings in the first half of 2009 were still higher than in the first half of 2006. Almost everyone who was interviewed for this special report said that the biggest problem at the moment is not a lack of demand but a lack of good work to sell. The three Ds — death, debt and divorce — still deliver works of art to the market. But anyone who does not have to sell is keeping away, waiting for confidence to return.

67. In the first paragraph, Damien Hirst’s sale was referred to as “a last victory” because _______.

A. the art market had witnessed a succession of victories

B. the auctioneer finally got the two pieces at the highest bids

C. Beautiful inside My Head Forever won over all masterpieces

D. it was successfully made just before the world financial crisis

68. Which of the following statements is true?

A .Sales of contemporary art fell dramatically from 2003 to 2008.

B. The art market didn’t match many other industries in momentum.

C. The market generally went downward in the same way.

D. Some art dealers were awaiting better chances to come.

69. The three Ds mentioned in the last paragraph are _________ .

A. auction houses’ favorites                      B. contemporary trends

C. factors promoting artwork circulation       D. styles representing impressionists

70. What is mainly discussed in the passage?

A. Art market in decline.                            B. Up-to-date art auctions.

C. Volatility of art prices.                     D. Shifted interest in arts.

Anne Whitney, a sophomore (大學二年級學生) at Colorado State University, first had a problem taking tests when she began college. "I was always well prepared for my tests. Sometimes I studied for weeks before a test. Yet I would go in to take the test, only to find I could not answer the questions correctly. I would blank out because of nervousness and fear. I couldn't think of the answer. My low grades on the tests did not show what I knew to the teacher. “Another student in biology had similar experiences. He said, "My first chemistry test was very difficult. Then, on the second test, I sat down to take it, and I was so nervous that I was shaking. My hands were moving up and down so quickly that it was hard to hold my pencil. I knew the material and I knew the answers. Yet I couldn't even write them down!"

These two young students were experiencing something called test anxiety. Because a student worries and is uneasy about a test, his or her mind does not work as well as it usually does. The student cannot write or think clearly because of the extreme tension and nervousness. Contrary to people’s common belief that poor grades are often a result of poor study habits, sometimes test anxiety plays a role in students’ achieving low grades. Recently, test anxiety has been recognized as a real problem, not just an excuse or a false explanation of lazy students.

Special university advising courses try to help students. In these courses, advisors try to help students by teaching them how to manage test anxiety. At some universities, students take tests to measure their anxiety. If the tests show their anxiety is high, the students can take short courses to help them deal with their tensions. These courses teach students how to relax their bodies. Students are trained to become calm in very tense situations. By controlling their nervousness, they can let their minds work at ease. Learned information then comes out without difficulty on a test.

An expert at the University of California explains, " With almost all students, relaxation and less stress are felt after taking our program. Most of them experience better control during their tests. Almost all have some improvement. With some, the improvement is very great. "

  C. test anxiety                        D. inability to form good study habits

58. Test anxiety has been recognized as______.

  A. an excuse for laziness                B. the result of poor study habits

  C. a real problem                      D. something that cannot be changed

  A. all students could overcome the anxiety after taking a special test anxiety program

  B. almost all students felt less stress after taking a University of California advising course

  C. students found it difficult to improve even though they had taken a special test anxiety course

  D. students found it easy to relax as soon as they entered a University of California advising course
