閱讀下面短文,并根據(jù)短文后的要求答題 (請注意問題后的詞數(shù)要求)。
[1]There is a sign in the subway that explains New York completely. “NYC: tolerant of your beliefs, judgmental of your shoes.” We are open to many walks of life, but your shoes … well, that’s another story. Researchers at the University of Kansas say that people can accurately judge 30 percent of a stranger’s personality simply by looking at the person’s shoes.
[2]The study involved volunteers filling out a personality questionnaire and providing photos of that they most frequently wear. Then 63 students looked at the photos and were able to accurately guess the volunteers’ gender, age, social status, and even whether the owner was extrovert or introvert, liberal or conservative, and their degree of emotional stability and openness.
[3]Here are some interesting findings from the study. Practical and functional shoes generally belong to agreeable people. Ankle boots belong to those with more aggressive personalities. Uncomfortable looking shoes are usually worn by those with calm personalities. Those who are most worried about their relationships wear brand new or well-kept shoes. This is because they are worried about what others think of their appearance. Liberals wear less expensive shoes. The more boring the shoes are, the harder it is for the owner to form relationships. This is because he doesn’t care about what others think of his appearance.
[4] “Shoes convey a thin but useful slice of information about their wearers,” the researchers of the study said. “Shoes serve a practical purpose, and also serve as non-verbal cues with symbolic messages. People tend to pay attention to the shoes they and others wear.”
[5] The researchers noted that some people would choose shoe styles to hide their actual personality traits, but they also noted that volunteers were likely to be unaware that their footwear choices were revealing deep insights into their personalities.
76. What is the main idea of the text? (no more than 9 words)
77. What type of shoes do agreeable people favor according to this text? (no more than 5 words)
78. What can you know about a person if he often wears brand new or well-kept shoes according to this text? (no more than 10 words)
79. Fill in the blank in Paragraph 2 with proper words. (no more than 3 words)
80. What does the word “they” (Line2, Paragraph 5) probably refer to? (no more than 6 words)

When hunger pains strike a shark, does it simply swim around aimlessly until it comes across a meal? Scientists who have studied the diving behavior of sharks, turtles, fish, and other marine predators(食肉動(dòng)物) now suggest that these animals are a bit more strategic(策略的). They appear to follow a special type of random motion, known as a Levy walk.
Ecologists have long studied how animals find food, with some exploring whether simple rules could explain their hunting behavior. In 1996, one team claimed that wandering albatrosses perform Levy walks, which are characterized by a particular distribution of movement lengths that include many short-distance jumps and rare long jumps. Others then found that many animals used this search strategy, too. But last fall, scientists—including authors of the original 1996 report—reported that the original albatross data were flawed. They also cast doubt on most claims of Levy walks by animals, condemning the small data sets analyzed and a key statistical method many groups used.
The tables have turned again, however. Behavioral ecologist David Sims and his colleagues have found evidence of Levy walks from depth-sensing recorders they had fixed to 31 large marine predators. As part of the European Census of Marine Life, they analyzed the vertical motion in more than a million dives as the animals obviously hunted for food.
Using various statistical methods, they showed that during the food-hunting, most animals examined seemed to perform vertical Levy walks, with many short dives with an occasional longer dive, some hundreds of meters deep. Sims argues that his team's vast data sets and the use of diverse statistical analyses make their study “the most believable evidence for Levy-like movement.”
The study is convincing, says ecologist Frederic Bartumeus of Princeton University. He says that he's impressed with the amount of data Sims' team analyzed and predicts that the study will shift the debate from whether animals perform Levy walks to when they use this strategy and why: “It's going to make biologists less suspicious about the existence of these patterns.”
71. Which of the following animals may not be studied by the ecologists?
A. Turtles. B. Tigers. C. Albatrosses. D. Whales.
72. The underlined word "flawed" probably means .
A. stolen B. proved C. faulty D. missed
73. Why did some scientists cast doubt on Levy walks by animals?
A. Because they didn't believe what David Sims said.
B. Because the authors of the 1996 report made a serious mistake.
C. Because the data sets other scientists analyzed were not convincing.
D. Because they doubted about the statistical method other scientists used.
74. From the passage we can learn that .
A. David Sims is quite confident of their research result
B. David Sims and his colleagues didn't make enough research
C. Frederic Bartumeus is a member of Sims' research group
D. the existence of Levy walk is still doubtful
75. The passage mainly wants to tell us that .
A. how marine animals finds their meals
B. ecologists make mistakes frequently during their research
C. Levy walk is a kind of advanced hunting method
D. we should be serious about scientific research

Anger at the practice of demanding dowries(嫁妝), which can lead to violence against brides, has prompted a takeoff of “Angry Birds” called “Angry Brides” that aims to highlight the illegal practice still popular in many South Asian countries.
Dowries-such as jewelry, clothes, cars and money-are traditionally given by the bride’s family to the groom and his parents to ensure she is taken care of in her new home.
The custom was outlawed more than five decades ago. But it is still widely practiced, with the groom’s family demanding even more money after marriage, leading to mental and physical annoyance that can drive the woman to suicide.
“The Angry Brides game is our way of throwing a spotlight on the nuisance(陋習(xí))of dowry.” said Ram Bhamidi, senior vice president and head of online marketing for Shaadi.com, a matrimonial(婚姻的)website with two million members.
“According to a 2007 study, there is a dowry-related death every four hours in India. We condemn this and have consistently run campaigns on social media to help create awareness of the issue”.
The name of the app, available on the group’s home page, is a spinoff from the globally popular “Angry Birds” game; Its home page shows a red-clad, eight-armed woman resembling a powerful female Hindu goddess. Underneath, there is a caption: “A woman will give you strength, care and all the love you need ……NOT dowry!”
To play the game, users have to try and hit three dodging grooms--a pilot, a builder and a doctor. There are a variety of weapons to choose from, including a frying pan, broomstick, tomato and loafer.
Each groom has a price tag, starting at 1.5 million rupees ($29,165). Every time the player hits a groom, his value decreases and money is added to the player’s Anti-Dowry Fund, which is saved posted on their Facebook page.
“Since we launched the game last week, more than 270,000 people have liked the app. Both men and women seem to be playing it”, said Bhamidi.

Swinging his bat back and forth, giving it all the power an elementary school kid could give. The boy brought the bat back hard and hit Kevin in the chest. His heart stopped.
When Kevin fell to the ground, the mother of one of the players rushed out of the stands to his aid. Penny Brown hadn't planned to be there that day, but at the last minute, her shift(換班) at the hospital had been changed to see her son’s performance. She was given the night off. Penny bent over the senseless boy, his face already starting to turn blue, and giving CPR, breathing into his mouth and giving chest compressions. And he revived in the end.

Quickly Kevin stepped behind her, wrapped his arms around her and clasped his hands. Then, using skills he'd first learned in Scouts. The food that was trapped in the woman's throat was freed. The color began to return to her face.
