I know what you’re thinking : pizza (比薩餅)? For breakfast? But the truth is that you can have last night’s leftovers in the a. m. if you want to

I know lots of women who skip breakfast (不吃早餐), and they have a ton of different excuses for doing it . Some say they don’t have time, others think they’re “saving” calories (卡路里), and still others just don’t like breakfast food .

But the bottom line is that eating in the morning is very important when you’re trying to lose weight. “Eating just about anything from 300 to 400 calories would be better than nothing at all,” says Katherine Brooking , R , D , who developed the super-easy eating plan for this year’s “SELF CHALLENGE”. And even pizza can be healthy if it’s loaded with vegetables, and you stick to one small piece.

Breakfast is one meal I never miss, and the same goes for most weight loss success stories. Research shows that eating breakfast keeps you from overeating later in the day. Researchers at the University of Southem California found that breakfast skippers have a bigger chance of gaining weight than those who regularly have a morning meal.

So eat something in the morning, anything. I know plenty of friends who end up having no breakfast altogether, and have just coffee or orange juice. I say, try heating up last night’s leftovers-it may sound crazy, but if it works for you, do it! I find if I tell myself, “You can always eat it tomorrow,” I put away the leftovers instead of eating more that night. Try it,and then you may save yourself some pre-bedtime calories. And watch your body gain the fat-burning effects.

To switch or not to switch, that is the question.Google’s announcement of its Nexus One smartphone(智能手機) happened over a week ago and I’m still receiving lots of e-mails from readers asking the same question: Should they give up their iPhone for the Nexus One?

Some people with iPhones, disappointed by American Telephone&Telegraph’s inadequate service and the high monthly cost, are wondering if they have really got something to replace it.Does the Nexus One offer the functions that Apple has led them to expect?

I’m on the fence myself, even though I never thought I’d be interested in anything but the iPhone. From my experience using the Nexus One, and from talking to people who have made the change, it’s not necessarily about the differences between the iPhone and the Nexus One.The phones are extremely similar in design and general feel.Instead, the decision can be made based on the software(軟件) services you use on your desktop.

My friend Chad Dickerson received a pre-launch Nexus One from Google three weeks ago.He said Google’s phone feels connected to certain services on the Web in a way the iPhone doesn’t.“Compared to the iPhone, the Google phone feels like it’s part of the Internet to me,” he said.“If you live in a Google world, you have that world in your pocket in a way that’s cleaner and more connected than the iPhone.”

Personally, the phones work perfectly with their own software, but both of them don’t make an effort to play well with other services.

1.Why are some iPhone users expecting a new type of phone?

A.Because their old ones are out of date.

B.Because they accept Google’s announcement.

C.Because of the limited service and high cost.

D.Because of the terrible software they can use..

2.What’s the author’s attitude towards the new phones in the third paragraph?

A.Negative

B.Neutral

C.Indifferent

D.Positive

3.In Chad Dickerson’s opinion, the Nexus One is ________ the iPhone.

A.better than

B.worse than

C.a(chǎn)s good as

D.a(chǎn)s bad as

4.The best title of the passage might be ________.

A.Apple’s New Smartphone

B.Torn Between Two Phones

C.Good Services Matter

D.Google’s New Smartphone

“ I’d like to be at a healthier weight , ” a friend told me . “ But we just don’t have the money to buy expensive diet foods and there isn’t enough money to join a gym .” Many people feel that way—that a healthy diet and exercise plan is out of reach because of their high cost . Don’t lose hope ! We’ll be looking at ways to make healthy choices without spending too much money .

First you don’t need to buy the expensive pre-prepared “ diet foods . ” Back in the early 1970s when I started housekeeping , 90% of the food I bought was ingredients . Very few things were preprocessed(預(yù)處理的). Now 90% of the food you find in the store is quick food . That’s a bad thing .

Quick foods like boxed “ just add hamburger ” meals have had the fiber removed to make them faster to prepare . Take a look at the label on that box . It often has low numbers listed under “ fiber ” because fiber takes longer to digest . If the low fiber meal is digested , the result is that your body begins to store fat . Besides , your body is short of nutrients(營養(yǎng)物質(zhì)). You will be driven to eat more to try to make up for the low quality of the food you are eating .

And then there are the chemicals the producers add to the quick meals to make them palatable . If not , the stuff would taste like cardboard and you wouldn’t enjoy it . However , these chemicals certainly aren’t good for your health .

What’s the answer ? Buy whole ingredients and give up the expensive , low nutrition , processed foods . Do the cooking yourself and you will have control over what is in your food —and it will cost less , too .

1.People who find it hard to get a healthier weight think        .

A.they had too much diet foods

B.they didn’t make a detailed plan

C.they have no time to do exercise in gym

D.they can’t afford diet foods and to exercise in gym

2. The author doesn’t like quick food mainly because       .

A.it contains too much fat

B.it makes people eat less

C.it has low fiber

D.it takes longer to digest

3.The underlined word “ palatable ” in Paragraph 4 probably means “       ”.

A.fresh

B.delicious

C.healthy

D.simple

4.The author suggests in the text that people should       .

A.control the amount of food

B.eat more processed foods

C.cook food for themselves

D.choose cheap ingredients

②="Paragraph" 2 ,…⑤="Paragraph" 5)

A.①/②③④/⑤

B.①②/③④/⑤

C.①②③/④/⑤

D.①/②③/④⑤

Being that I worked in a grocery store for 7 years, I know quite a bit about impulsive purchases. In fact, I helped (sadly to say) push certain products by placing them in a certain fashion. Through said experience, I tend to know some of the best ways to counter the impulsive nature of buying things that are unnecessary.

The following is a 3- point list to counter the need to buy something shoved in your face…

Don't bring the kids.

You wouldn't believe (or maybe you parents would) how much more junk parents buy for their kids that is completely impulsive. Working as a checker at a grocery store, I quickly learned that most of the time kids were with their parents, the parents would buy something else within 10 feet of the check stand.

Bring exact cash.

I like to use my debit card because I am able to track every penny better, but holding and letting go of cash is much tougher for me personally. So, if I am going through a tough time budgeting properly, I will bring the allotted (限定的)amount of cash to the place of business and only allow that to be used.

Ignore salesman.

If you are at a department store and someone asks if you need help, try to ignore their push as much as possible. Sure, if you know nothing about laptops, get their advice, but even then I suggest doing your research pre-shop. Salesman could care less what you want. It's all about what their quota or commission is. Ignore them.

1.Why does the author write the passage?

A.To talk about her own shopping experiences.

B.To give readers some advice about resisting buying unnecessary things.

C.To complain about some bad experiences.

D.To tell us she has the habit of buying things that are unnecessary.

2.Why does the author like to use debit card?

A.Because her debit card is convenient.

B.Because she has not much cash.

C.Because she can know where every her penny goes.

D.Because she has many debit cards.

3.Which statement about the passage is WRONG?

A.Parents always bring something else for their children.

B.The author will bring the exact cash to buy things when going through a tough time.

C.Salesmen care much about what you want, so you can follow their advice.

D.The author worked in a grocery store for 7 years.
