題目列表(包括答案和解析)

The “ant tribe (蟻族)” are those who were born in the 1980s and now live in the underdeveloped places of big cities. Most of them come from the countryside, and they are mostly young graduates who have finished their high education in the past few years. They often change their jobs and their average salary is below 2,000 yuan. They are called ‘a(chǎn)nt tribe’ because they have the same characters as ‘a(chǎn)nts’: living together, clever, hardworking but unknown and low-paid.

Deng Kun is a member of the ‘a(chǎn)nti tribe’. When he was in college studying math, he imagined himself working for a company like IBM. Instead, he has spent his time after graduation in a dark and small room he shares with a friend in outside parts of Beijing, playing video games or trying to wait for a job as a salesman.

Zhang Haijian studies physics, but he is now working as a waiter, making only 1,500 yuan a month. “My parents would never say anything about my money,” he said. “But I sometimes talk with my friends about whether it has been worth it – we worked so hard in college and now I get money less than some of my classmates who did not finish middle school.”

Most members of the ‘a(chǎn)nt tribe’ are about twenty. They don’t want to go back; they prefer a single bed in Beijing to a house in their hometown. They are looking forward to bright future. We wish their dream would come true.

When I was ten, my mother worked all day so I had to take care of my younger brother. At that time my little brother was about four years old and he missed mum all the time.

One day, after I had given him his dinner, he started crying for mum. He was so young and really needed mum. So I dressed him, put on his shoes, carried him on my back and walked out. Soon he fell asleep. About half an hour later, I found that he had lost a shoe while sleeping. I took him off my back and put him down. I knew we needed to find that shoe, for our mother couldn’t afford new shoes. We had to go back to find it, so I told my brother to wait right there. A man heard it and stopped me just before I walked off. He asked me, “You are leaving your brother here to find the shoe? What would you do if he is not here when you return?” I did not know how to answer that question. He continued, “It’s OK if you can’t find the shoe, but it is not OK to lose your brother.” Then he sent us to mum’s workplace by taxi.

Molly Daniels opened the door so hard that the door nearly broke it. Then she looked through the window at her neighbor across the yard. “ She is in my garden again. Those are my strawberries, not hers. Maybe I should call the police.”
Her friend, Doris, was sitting at the table with a cup of coffee in her hands. “You want to call the police because she picks your strawberries?” she asked.
“Of course,” Molly answered angrily. “What would you do if your neighbor walked into your yard without your permission and picked your strawberries?”
“I would say, better here the bees.”
“The bees don’t take my strawberries.”
“But the birds do,” Doris continued. “That old lady only picks a few strawberries every year, and the only ones she picks are those you leave to the birds. Why don’t you pick some of your good strawberries and give them to her?”
“Are you crazy? What are you thinking?’
“Don’t you remember what happened when you were in hospital last year? She went to see you and gave you a pot full of chicken soup. When you give her the strawberries you can tell her that you still remember that.”
