What makes a good student?

  Luo Min, 13, Grade Seven

A good student always has high scoresOur duty is to study wellHowever, some top students are not polite, and I don't consider them good students

As for movie characters, I think Hermione in Harry Potter is a standard good studentShe is top at school, and is clever, kind and brave

  Wu Lan, 15, Grade Eight

A good student has a clear goal to achieve and never gives upFor example, our monitor is always concentrating(專心)in classHe doesn't care that we laugh at his silly gestures while he is trying to learn something by heartIn the latest exam he did best in our grade!

  Chen Mu, 16, Grade Nine

In my opinion, he or she who likes studying is a good studentThey may not do well in exams, but they are always working hard and trying to improve

I think Thomas Edison was a good studentHe must have been bad in his teachers' eyes because he didn't get good school reportsBut he became a great inventor at last

  Lin Tao, 16, Grade Nine

High scores do not mean anythingThere is a student in our school who always scores high in examsMaybe he is a good student in his teachers' eyesBut I dislike him because he doesn't know how to care for othersI think a good student is always ready to help, and he should be one whom your classmates feel comfortable to be with

Life used to be fun for teenagers. They had lots of interests and they used to spend their spare time on them, like seeing a good film, going for a picnic or listening to music. But for many young people, life is harder now.Jobs are difficult to find.It is hard to find a place to live in.Teachers say students have to work harder than they used to.They are less interested in how to spend their share time and more interested in passing exam. They know that good exam results may get them better jobs.

But teenagers often feel stressed because they have too much homework to do both at school and at home. They have lots of exams to take. They are too busy studying every day that they don't have their own time to do what they are interested in.Now more and more teenagers are getting short-sighted(近視)as they study too long every day.So they should think of ways to relax themselves. They should make a plan for study and find time to relax as much as possible.

English Online made a survey on The Ways for Students to Relax. Here are the results. Some think that watching TV is good. Some believe that sometimes playing computer games isn't a bad way.Others think the best way to relax is to do sports with classmates.

Very few people enjoy exams. I don’t, either. And although I tell myself not to worry about them, I always do! So I’m not surprised that my students worry about them, too, even though they usually don’t need to. Because they are afraid of failing. However, since it is hard not to worry at all, we all must try not to worry too much. Why? Because worrying makes exams worse! How to do this?
Ask the teacher about how to revise and about exam skills—how to work when you are in the exam. Good students don’t wait until the week before an exam. They study all through the year. It is not possible to learn everything at the last minute. So don’t leave it till then.
If you start planning and working for each exam early and you make sure that you understand what you’re studying, then, when it is over, you’ll be able to say, “What a good exam that was!”
