Harry had a very small farm. He only had one cow but dreamed about having a large farm. He once asked his father Bill, “I’d like to have that land over there. One of this summer’s hottest books is “That Guy Was Cool.” Sounds like a great book for kids, doesn’t it? But parents and teachers want to read this one,too.It can teach them something about the language of today’s kids.

So lots of people,young and old,went to see the book’s writer,a 19-year-old Korean girl Guiyeoni, on Saturday.She was in Beijing to sign給…簽名books for her fans.

“Guiyeoni wrote a story that is near to us and goes to our hearts內(nèi)心,”said a Junior 2 student in Beijing. “When I read it,I laughed and I cried.”

“The girl in the book is like me.She’s simple天真的and moody憂郁的,”said Guiyeoni.

Guiyeoni’s book doesn’t only use words.It also uses things like emotions情感.Emotions are small icons圖標(biāo),like smiling faces,and they are used to show emotions.Kids know what these things mean, because they often use them when they talk on the Internet or send messages with mobile phones.

Guiyeoni said she wrote this way because of her young readers. “Writing with pictures is vivid（生動(dòng)）and can say a lot of things,”she said.

Guiyeoni began writing the book’s story on the Web in 2001 when she was a Senior 2 （高二）student. Last year,she put that online story together to make this book.“That Guy Was Cool” has been made into拍攝成a film,and it will come out in Korea next month.

One summer evening as I was cooking dinner, there was a knock at the door. I opened it and saw an old man. But his voice was pleasant as he said, “Good evening. I come to see if you have a room for just one night. I live far away from here, and there's no bus till next morning. ”

British people are famous for drinking tea. But brother and sister, Sarah and Bobby Green, became young millionaires(百萬富翁) when they opened a chain of American-style coffee shops in the UK.

Having the idea: It started when Sarah took a weekend trip to New York to visit her brother Bobby. One evening, in a Thai restaurant, Sarah told Bobby how much she wished she could buy American-style coffee in London. Bobby suggested they started their own coffee shop. Most people around the world are right-handed. This also seems to be true in history. In 1799, scientists studied works of art made at different times from 1,500 B. C. to the 1950s. Most of the people shown in these works are right-handed, so the scientists guessed that right-handedness has always been common through history. Today, only about 10% to 15% of the world's population is left-handed.

  Why are there more right-handed people than left-handed ones? Scientists now know that a person's two hands each have their own jobs. For most people, the hand is used to find things or hold things. The right hand is used to work with things. This is because of the different work of the two sides of the brain(腦). The right side of the brain, which makes a person's hands and eyes work together, controls(控制) the left hand. The left-side of the brain, which controls the right hand, is the centre for thinking and doing problems. These findings show that more artists should be left-handed, and studies have found that left-handedness is twice as common among artists as among people in other jobs.

No one really knows what makes a person become right-handed instead of left-handed. Scientists have found that almost 40% of the people become left-handed because their main brain is damaged(傷害) when they are born. However, this doesn't happen to everyone, so scientists guess there must be another reason why people become left-handed. One idea is that people usually get right-handed from their parents.
