一天清晨，商人牽著驢進城賣鹽，當(dāng)經(jīng)過每天必須蹚過的小河時，毛驢不小心滑倒在河里，鹽融化了許多。毛驢爬起來，馱著剩下的鹽繼續(xù)前進時，感到輕松極了。

傍晚，商人牽著毛驢從城里馱東西回來，經(jīng)過小河時，毛驢想起早上的經(jīng)驗，就故意跌倒在水中，想再輕松一下。沒想到，這次驢背上兩邊捆著的都是海綿，海綿吸足了水，像座大山似的壓在身上，它再也沒能爬起來，結(jié)果被活活淹死了。
