【題目】A New Kind of Hero

In the Olympics, star athletes always get public’s attention. In the past, the athletes who got the gold medal in Olympics were popular. But now athletes who are not the winner, such as Lin Dan and Fu Yuanhui, also become popular.

Fu Yuanhui, 20 years old, is a Chinese backstroke(仰泳) athlete. She became a popular star on social media(媒體) with her exaggerated(夸張的) expressions, instead of her bronze medal(銅牌) in the women’s 100- meter backstroke. After the semi- final, she was asked if she had saved some energy for the final. Fu answered with a shock face, “ I have been using my ‘ pre – historical’ power ( an online phrase in China which means the power of nature that can turn the world upside down).” This cute answer made her popular. Her happy personality (個性) won her millions of fans on the Internet overnight. People called her the “Pre – historical Girl”. She has become a new hero of Chinese people. She taught us a lesson: Sport is about the struggle (奮斗)and enjoyment, and most definitely not about gold medal.

Winning used to be everything for China’s Olympians. Athletes who got gold have fame and fortune(財富), while those who disappointed often got ignored even criticized (批評). Liu Xiang became a national hero at the 2004 Athens Olympics. But four years later at the Beijing Olympics, when an injury (受傷) forced him to give up running just before his first race, he was criticized.

Now, China is ready to welcome a sports star without a gold medal. Public attitudes toward competitive sports (競技運動) and the Olympics have lifted to a higher level.

【題目】Parisian architect( )Paul Andreu has designed so many landmark buildings in China.

Among his best known are the National Grand Theatre in Beijing, the Jinan Grand Theatre and Shanghai Pudong International Airport. Andreu is nearly 80 and he continues to develop projects in China. The worldfamous architect, writer and painter held his first art show last summer in Beijing where he sat down for this interview.

How was it that you went from architecture to writing—and more recently to painting?

I have a desire to create, for continuous renewal. While I can't say that I know everything about architecture,I no longer have much to prove or discover. For me,painting is just as important, creatively, but it's something you do alone in your workshop, with a piece of paper and a pot of ink—it's totally refreshing.

Why did you wait so many years to start painting?

It was a kind of need. I was tired off in my field and wanted to try something new and I tried to improve this situation by writing. But writing is a very long process—it takes at least a year to write a book. Painting is faster. Being alone with yourself during the day,in the light, and then putting yourself in a situation where you produce something of which you know nothing and for which no one has asked—it's a kind of freedom you seldom have in life.

What is your project in China right now?

There's a project in the ZhuhaiMacao area. The Chinese engineering and building company Zhuhai Da Heng Qin asked French architect Thomas Coldefy to think about the project, suggesting that he work with an architect who's already known in China. He asked me if I'd be willing to do some of the work. We'll present the project some time before December;the planned completion date is in 2019.

1Paul Andreu has gone from architecture to painting because .

A. he likes paper and ink B. he thinks painting is faster

C. he has a desire to create D. he has to prove that he is great

2Where is Paul Andreu's project in China now?

A. In Beijing. B. In Jinan.

C. In Shanghai Pudong. D. In the ZhuhaiMacao area.

3What do you know about Paul Andreu from the passage?

A. His achievements. B. His challenges. C. His worries. D. His habits.

【題目】Tiny plants and animals live all around us. We cannot see them because they are so small, but they are everywhere.

They live in the soil, the air, and in rivers and oceans. They grow on mountains and in caves. Some live in the ice at the north and south poles; some live where it is very hot. They are found throughout cities and in the country. They grow on other plants and animals. Some are even living on you, on your skin, hair, and inside your body, in your mouth, nose, and all through your intestines ().

These tiny plants and animals are called microbes. The word microbe is made from two other words: micro, meaning small, and bios, meaning life. So, microbe means small life.

Microbes have been on earth for a very long time. They may have been the first forms of life to be alive. Today there are more microbes in the world than all other living things.

People did not know microbes had existed (存在) long. They were too small for them to see.

But people did see many changes in their world—important changes. And they did not know what caused them. They saw food that they kept too long change color and begin to smell bad. They saw cuts and wounds grow red and painful and become infected. They saw old plants and leaves and trees crumble apart on the forest floor and disappear into the soil. Such changes were a natural part of the world, but people did not understand them. They did not know these changes were evidence (證據(jù)) of tiny plants and animals growing all around them.

1Where do microbes live?

A. Only in the forest. B. Almost everywhere.

C. Most in very hot areas. D. Most in rivers and oceans.

2The underlined phrase “crumble apart” in the last paragraph means “________”.

A. 開花結(jié)果 B. 化為春泥 C. 破裂腐爛 D. 芳香四溢

3According to the passage, which is the most suitable to complete the web below?

A. Microbes are very small B. Microbes are all around us

C. People can’t see microbes D. Food begins to smell bad

4The best title of the passage could be ________.

A. The smallest life around us B. The origin (起源) of microbes

C. The place of microbes growing D. The evidence of microbes growing

【題目】The Sixth Time I Went to the Principal’s Office

When I was in the seventh grade, I had problems behaving. My heart was in the right place, but I

couldn’t always follow the rules. I played many tricks on my schoolmates. Once, I even pulled a girl’s hair

on the school bus to get her attention. As a result, I was repeatedly sent to the office of the principal(校長).

Although I hated going there, I did not hate the principal, Mr. Ratcliff.

Mr. Ratcliff was a kind, elderly man. When he spanked( 打屁股) me for putting some ants into a

When I got called to Mr. Ratcliff’s office for the sixth time, I had no idea what I had done. I felt

know how proud I am of you, and I just called you down to my office to give you a peppermint.”

“Really?” I was surprised.

“Yes. Now you can take that peppermint and go back to class.”

I carried the peppermint with me as if it was a gold coin. When I got into my classroom, I bragged ( 吹噓) to my classmates about my turnaround, excitedly. I wasn’t so bad after all.

Mr. Ratcliff was really kind. He made me realize that I was just a kid who had problems with behavior. He bought some peppermints and took the time to notice me when I got something-anything-right. Mr.Ratcliff gave me some hope by giving me some love. I will just remember him for the rest of my life.
