When you are eating dinner with your family, do your parents ever remind you to finish all the food on your plate? If so, you should know it’s not just because they want you to be healthy. They also want to stop food waste.
Every year, 1.3 billion tons of food is wasted around the world, according to the UN. That’s about one-third of all food produced each year.
We make a survey in 34 countries to see how much food is wasted in different countries.
For example, the UAE(阿聯(lián)酋) wastes the most food, with each person wasting about 1,000 kilos every year on average.
However, some countries have worked hard to use their food resources wisely. France wastes the least amount of food, according to the survey. France was the first country to pass laws that ban(禁止) food waste. It’s not allowed to throw away fresh food. Another law forces French restaurants to provide bags for people’s leftovers(剩菜剩飯).
China ranked 23rd for food waste in the survey. China’s food waste is around 18 million tons every year, enough to feed up to 50 million people for one year. Facing this situation, China has been working hard to reduce food waste. In early 2013, a movement to prevent food waste called “empty plate” began. It has become popular among both government officials and general public.

根據(jù)“Every year, 1.3 billion tons of food is wasted around the world, according to the UN. That’s about one-third of all food produced each year.”
根據(jù)“France wastes the least amount of food, according to the survey.” 故選A。
根據(jù)“In early 2013, a movement to prevent food waste called “empty plate” began.”
根據(jù)“the UAE(阿聯(lián)酋) wastes the most food,”可知,阿聯(lián)酋浪費的食物最多。因此A正確;根據(jù)“It’s not allowed to throw away fresh food.” 因此B錯誤;根據(jù)“Facing this situation, China has been working hard to reduce food waste.” 因此C正確;根據(jù)“Every year, 1.3 billion tons of food is wasted around the world, according to the UN.”
A survey about food waste in different countries.

Libraries give kids a quiet and safe place to read and learn. For over 100 years, libraries have played an important role in Americans' education. 1. But how are these book-filled buildings changing with the times? You may be surprised to find out.
Benjamin Franklin famously founded America's first lending library in 1731. But the public library system got its biggest development in the American history in the late 1800s. Businessman Andrew Camegie donated millions of dollars to help build free public libraries across the country. Carnegie believed that libraries could offer the chances to Americans, young and old. 2. He knew that the more libraries there were, the more people would have chances to read.
If you can easily find a public library in your community, you'll get more opportunities. After all, the United States has 9,225 public libraries. Today, libraries keep growing and seven tenths of the them have free Internet. 3. It provides much more information and chances to ask for jobs online.
Libraries are also teaching kids about the fun of reading. The new program "Read! Build! Play!" adds reading into playtime. As kids listen to a book that is being read aloud, they use Legos (樂高積木) to build images (圖像) from the story happily. 4.

【題目】 You frown (皺眉) when you are angry or upset. Your parents pat(輕拍) your head to show their love. Some players like to throw their arms forward. It seems they’re flying, after they score. Body language is everywhere. How important is it?
Body language does not use words. It is communication with the movement or position(位置) of your body. The way you stand, a hand gesture are examples of body language. And it also includes facial expressions.
According to American scientist Edward T. Hall, in a conversation between two people, 65 percent of communication is body language. In some cases you can even express yourself without any words at all. For example, your friend asks you to come on a picnic with him, you give him an “OK”gesture to say: “Yes, sounds good!” Sometimes, your words say one thing but your body language says another. You may touch your face unconsciously (無意識地) while telling a lie.
In different cultures, the same body language may mean different things. In the US, eye communication during a conversation means you are interested in what the other person is saying. But in some Asian countries, it is impolite to look straight at a person when you are talking to him or her.
People in some countries use different body language to show the same meaning. In France, people kiss cheeks (臉頰) to say hello. The Japanese prefer to bow and Maoris in New Zealand touch noses when greeting.
