【題目】Yang Nan, 17, was happy to move to her new home in a northern area of Beijing. She was told that her neighborhood used to be farmland planted with vegetables, corn and wheat. But looking at the new road, beautiful park and supermarkets, Yang couldn't see any sign that food was once grown there.
Yang is not alone. In recent years, many Chinese people have moved into new houses in country areas. Tall buildings have been built everywhere in the suburbs. The crops and fruit trees are no more. But these changes have caused problems too, warns Gan Zang chun, an official at the Ministry of Land and Resources (國土資源部).
"Chinese cities are growing fast. This has made the area for farmland much smaller. This is really bad for the country's ability to grow food, not to mention the lives of farmers," said Gan last Monday.
The country needs farmland to grow food for the people of China. But the recent rise in house prices has made selling land a good business. A lot of land has been used to build new houses for sale.
Pollution, which makes land useless, is another reason for the big drop in China's farmland. About 2.67 million square kilometers of land in China have been polluted and turned into desert.
The government wants China to have at least 120 million hectares(公頃) of farmland. But there are only about 121.8 million hectares left. "It will be really difficult to reach the goal," Gan said. He said that the government would fight illegal land use and stop farmland from becoming desert.
【1】The article seems to tell us that .
A. farmland is in danger
B. countrysides are turned into towns
C. farmland has been sold
D. Chinese cities are grown fast
【2】From what Gan Zangchun said, he is worrying about .
A. China's development
B. land and resources
C. Chinese people's life
D. illegal land use
【3】What size of the land have been polluted and turned into desert?
A. 120 million hectares.
B. 121.8 million hectares.
C. 2.67 million square kilometers.
D. Millions of square kilometers.

【題目】As December comes to an end, you think about the new year and all the ways you want to improve your life. But as you start to write down your hopes for the new year, you think about the last year. You excitedly write down all the changes you are going to make, but by the end of January those ideas get lost in your busy life.
Here’s a suggestion: Forget the too big, hard to achieve goals and just think about the small ones. “We often think that we have to do everything in big steps, even though it’s so hard for us to reach it, said Robert Maurer, who recently wrote the book One Small Step Can Change Your Life. “What we try to do is to begin with such a small step that we can’t find any excuse not to do it.”
“Kaizen”, a Japanese word, is used to mean to change behavior and attitudes. During World WarⅡ, American factory managers were able to increase productivity by trying small, continuous improvements instead of sudden changes. After the war, the idea was brought to a rebuilding Japan. It made Japan develop fast. The Japanese called it “Kaizen”, which means “improvement”.
Maurer studied the idea and did some experiments with it. “Kaizen” could possibly help people succeed in doing everything.

When Chinese people find out that someone comes from London, they often ask, "London is a foggy city, isn't it?" British people who visit China often say that London is not a foggy city at all! But if London is not foggy, do so many people in China think it is? In fact, London used to be a foggy city, it isn't any more.
In London lots of its pollution came factories, but a lot of it came from coal because people used it in their houses to keep warm during the winter. By the 1950s, London's air pollution had become so that the government decided to do something to clean up the air. A new rule was made. It said that was not allowed to burn coal in any British city. Just a few years the air became much cleaner.
Now many Chinese cities meet the same kind of with air pollution that London met forty or fifty years ago. However, this problem is more difficult for Chinese cities to . First, more of the pollution comes from big factories than from coal that people use in their houses. If these factories are suddenly closed, lots of people their jobs. Second, cleaner fuels(燃料) are quite expensive. However, the air in many cities is already slowly becoming cleaner, because the government and ordinary people are trying to make pollution less.
