【1】把thing改為things

【2】把holding改為held

【3】把had chosen改為had been chosen

【4】把me改為myself

【5】把such改為so

【6】caught a sight去掉a

【7】把do改為did

【8】was filled in改為was filled with

【9】把which改為that

【10】successfully改為successful

【1】把thing改為things 考查名詞單復(fù)數(shù);根據(jù)a lot of后面加可數(shù)名詞的復(fù)數(shù)形式;

故將had chosen 改為had been chosen。

【5】把such改為so 考查固定句型;such是形容詞修飾名詞,其用法:such+a/an+形容詞+名詞;so是副詞修飾形容詞,其用法:so+形容詞+a/an+名詞。

【6】caught a sight去掉a 考查動詞短語。caught sight of:看見,相當(dāng)于see。

do a good job:做得好。

【8】was filled in改為was filled with考查介詞。be filled with與be full in都是表示充滿的意思,但所接的介詞不同,要注意區(qū)分。

所以此處it is confidence which makes people successfully應(yīng)將which改成that。

Death Valley is one of the most famous deserts in the United States, covering a wide area with its alkali sand. Almost 20 percent of this area is well below sea level, and Badwater, a salt water pool, is about 280 feet below sea level and the lowest point in the United States.

Long ago the Panamint Indians called this place “Tomesha”— the land of fire. Death Valley’s present name dates back to 1849, when a group of miners coming across from Nevada became lost in its unpleasantness and hugeness and their adventure turned out to be a sad story. Today Death Valley has been declared a National Monument(紀(jì)念碑) and is crossed by several well-marked roads where good services can be found easily. Luckily the change created by human settlement has hardly ruined the special beauty of this place.

Here nature created a lot of surprising, almost like the sights on the moon, ever-changing as the frequent wind moves the sand about, showing the most unusual colors. One of the most astonishing and variable parts of Death Valley is the Devil’ s Golf Course, where it seems hard for one to tell reality from terrible dreams. So long as teachers fail to tell the difference be-tween teaching and learning, they will continue to undertake to do for children that which only children can do for themselves. Teaching children to read is not passing reading on to them. It is certainly not endless hours spent in activities about reading. Douglas insists that “reading cannot be taught directly and schools should stop trying to do the impossible".

Teaching and learning are two entirely different processes. They differ in kind and function. The function of teaching is to create the conditions and the climate that will make it possible for children to plan cleverly the most efficient (有效的)system for teaching themselves to read. Teaching is also a public activity: It can be seen and observed.

Learning to read involves all that each individual does to understand the world of printed language. Almost all of it is private, for learning is an occupation of the mind, and that process is not open to public scrutiny.

If teacher and learner roles are not interchangeable, what then can be done through teaching that will aid the child in the long search for knowledge? Smith has one principle rule for all teaching instructions. "Make learning to read easy, which means making reading a meaningful, enjoyable and frequent experience for children.

When the roles of the teacher and the learner are seen for what they are, and when both the teacher and the learner fulfill them properly, then much of the pressure and feeling of failure for both is got rid of. Learning to read is made easier when teachers create an environment where children are given the chance to solve the problem of learning to read by reading.

A. too much time is spent in teaching about reading

A. teachers can make their teaching activities ob-servable
