【題目】Cold weather can be hard on pets, just like it can be hard on people. Sometimes owners forget that their cats are just as used to the warm shelter (住所) as they are. Some owners will leave their animals outside for a long period of time, thinking that all animals are used to living outdoors. This can put their pets in danger of serious illness. There are things you can do to keep your animal warm and safe.

Keep your pets inside as much as you can when the weather is bad. If you have to take them out, stay outside with them. When you’re cold enough to go inside, they probably are too. If you must leave them outside for a long time, make sure they have a warm, solid shelter against the wind, thick bedding, and plenty of non-frozen water.

If left alone outside, dogs and cats can be very smart in their search for warm shelter. They can dig into snow banks or hide somewhere. Watch them closely when they are left outdoors, and provide them with shelter of good quality. Keep an eye on your pet’s water. Sometimes owners don’t realize that a water bowl has frozen and their pet can’t get anything to drink. Animals that don’t have clean and unfrozen water may drink dirty water outside, which may contain something unhealthy for them.

1】【1What do we learn about pets from Paragraph 1?

A. They are often forgotten by their owners. B. They are used to living outdoors.

C. They build their own shelters. D. They like to stay in warm places.

2】【2Why are pet owners asked to stay with their pets when they are out in cold weather?

A. To know when to bring them inside. B. To keep them from eating bad food.

C. To help them find shelters. D. To keep them company.

3】【3If pets are left on their own outdoors in cold weather, they may .

A. be short of clean water B. dig deep holes for fun

C. dirty the snow nearby D. get lost in the wild

4】【4What is the purpose of this text?

A. To solve a problem. B. To give practical advice.

C. To tell an interesting story. D. To present a research result.

2】【2】考查細節(jié)理解。根據(jù)第二段中的“If you have to take them out, stay outside with them. When you’re cold enough to go inside, they probably are too.”可知:當你感到冷的時候就會進房間,它們也是如此。所以A正確。

3】【3】考查細節(jié)理解。根據(jù)文章第三段中的“a water bowl has frozen and their pet can’t get anything to drink”可知,當水盆被凍之后,寵物就可能找不到干凈的水喝。故選A

4】【4】考查作者的寫作意圖。根據(jù)第一段的中心句“There are things you can do to keep your animal warm and safe.”可知,這是一篇說明文,其目的是為了給養(yǎng)寵物的人們一些實用的建議。

【題目】We’ve always been fascinated by consistently successful people. Most of them were not born into success. And they simply continue to do things that help them realize their full potential. 1

Create and pursue goals. Successful people are objective.2 They know what they are looking for and why they are fighting for it. Successful people always create and pursue their goals.

Take decisive and immediate action. Sadly, very few people ever live to become the success story they dream about.3 You can’t change anything or make any sort of real-world progress without taking action. So make the decision and take action immediately.

Focus on being productive, not being busy. Busy people are heading to work, meetings, social engagements, etc. But it may be an illusion. They’re like hamsters (倉鼠) running on a wheel. The solution: Slow down. Put first things first.4 And always remember, results are more important than the time it takes to achieve them.

5 If you’re selling a product line, don’t keep it so complicated. And if you’re trying to make a decision about something, don’t waste all your time evaluating every last detail of every possible option. Choose something that you think will work, give it a shot, and keep pressing forward.

A. Keep things simple.

B. Do one thing at a time.

C. It will be hard in the beginning.

D. They have realistic targets in mind.

E. Here are some things they do differently.

F. And that’s because they never take action.

G. Focus on making small, continuous improvements.

【題目】閱讀理解
As kids, my friends and I spent a lot of time out in the woods,"The woods" was our part-time address, destination, purpose, and excuse. If I went to a friend's house and found him not at home, his mother might say, "Oh,he's out in the woods,"with a tone of airy acceptance. It's similar to the tone people sometimes use nowadays to tell me that someone I'm looking for is on the golf course or at the gym,or even "away from his desk."For us ten-year-olds,"being out in the woods" was just an excuse to do whatever we feel like for a while.
We sometimes told ourselves that what we were doing in the woods was exploring.Exploring was a more popular idea back then than it is today.History seemed to be mostly about explorers. Our explorations, though, seemed to have less system than the historic kind: something usually came up along the way.Say we stayed in the woods, throwing rocks, shooting frogs, picking blackberries, digging in what we were briefly persuaded was an Italian burial mound.
Often we got "lost" and had to climb a tree to find out where we were.If you read a story in which someone does that successfully,be skeptical: the topmost branches are usually too skinny to hold weight, and we could never climb high enough to see anything except other trees. There were four or five trees that we visited regularly—tall beeches, easy to climb and comfortable to sit in.
It was in a tree, too, that our days of fooling around in the woods came to an end.By then some of us had reached seventh grade and had begun the rough ride of adolescence. In March, the month when we usually took to the woods again after winter, two friends and I set out to go exploring. We climbed a tree, and all of a sudden it occurred to all three of us at the same time that we really were rather big to be up in a tree.Soon there would be the spring dances on Friday evenings in the high school cafeteria.
(1)The author and his fiends were often out in the woods to.
A.spend their free time
B.play gold and other sports
C.avoid doing their schoolwork
D.keep away from their parents
(2)What can we infer from Paragraph 2?
A.The activities in the woods were well planned.
B.Human history is not the result of exploration.
C.Exploration should be a systematic activity.
D.The author explored in the woods aimlessly.
(3)How does the author feel about his childhood?
A.Happy but short.
B.Lonely but memorable.
C.Boring and meaningless.
D.Long and unforgettable.

【題目】Listed below are the stories of women you may not know about, but definitely should.

Hedy Lamarr

Hedy Lamarr starred in many films. But her film career is far from her only noteworthy achievement; she was also a brilliant inventor. In 1942, she and composer George Antheil received a patent(專利)for a device that could change radio signal frequencies. The purpose of the technology was to keep military enemies from figuring out messages. But it did more than that - it laid a foundation for the wireless technology we use today.

Maria Sibylla Merian

Today, children can happily explain how a caterpillar(毛蟲) tums into a butterfly. But there was a time when no one knew this. Until the 1670s, scientists thought that caterpillars and butterflies were two totally different creatures. Thanks to Maria, we know the truth about these beautiful winged insects. Fascinated by insects, she began collecting, studying and drawing them as a child. It was through her study of caterpillars that she discovered the truth about their life cycles. She published two volumes of naturalist research, which provide major contributions to the field of entomology(昆蟲學).

Ada Lovelace

Ada Lovelace, the daughter of celebrated British poet Lord Byron, wasn’t a poet herself but the world’s first computer programmer. We think of computers as a recent invention, but people were toying with the idea of “computing machines” in the mid – 19th century when Lovelace was alive. Lovelace’s mathematical genius was apparent at a young age and caught the attention of Cambridge professor Charles Babbage, who was working to design early computing machines that would be able to quickly solve math problems. Lovelace wrote some suggestions as to how to program the machines to work out numbers.

In addition to designing this early computer program, she was also the first to surest that these computers might be able to do more than compute. She imagined them doing almost everything, from producing images to composing music.

A. The technology. B. The patent.

C. The device. D. The film career.

2Before Maria’s discovery, people thought that .
