Indeed, many failures are experienced in our lives and the effect could be extremely unpleasant. I do have a share of my experience and you might have yours too. As the sayings goes, “Experience is the best teacher.” Many people believe it’s the other way around. Experience, in fact, can be the worst teacher since it takes the first before you learn the lesson.
Often, when people around us try to comfort us that we shouldn’t be too hard on ourselves, we say “sure”, yet we are doing otherwise. We are becoming too hard on ourselves because failure is something that wouldn’t leave your mind quickly. Failure is something that can make you regret spending money, time, and effort but all go down the drain. But it is common everywhere and it usually leads us to success.
“There were once two prison men sitting behind the bars. One saw mud while the other saw stars.” In this story, those two prison men were paying the costs of their actions. However, as they faced their situation, one prisoner was completely defeated by his depression. But the other prisoner held his head up with his hopes and dreams. As you may well notice, failure happens, but people deal with it quite differently.
However, true failure comes in when you react negatively to the situation. True failure is about giving up completely. It is about being unable to recognize that if you look at the midnight skies, the stars are still shinning. See, no matter how disheartening and discouraging your fall was true failure is about not getting up and not moving on. You must accept failure as a great opportunity for you to learn. You will also be able to learn from the failures of other people. But it’s your own failure that will help you meaningfully.
1.The saying “Experience is the best teacher.” in Paragraph 1 means_____.
A. experience is really good at teaching
B. the best teacher usually experiences a lot
C. something valuable can be learned from failure
D. the worst teacher can teach you how to be successful
2.The writer tells us people’s attitudes toward failure by_____.
A. listing some true facts
B. mentioning a story
C. showing some figures
D. blaming the two prison men
3.Which of the following is TRUE about the failure according to the text?
A. We can’t live without failure
B. It is easy to get rid of failure
C. People should try to avoid failure
D. People should treat failure properly
4.Which of the following would be the best title for this passage?
A. Failure opens the door to learning
B. Experience is interesting and pleasant
C. Success is not easy for us to achieve
D. Everything comes from failure

It was the summer of my freshman year of college. Instead of heading home for a nice long , my friends and I had decided to and take some extra courses. We had the top floor of an old house to live in. My bed was into a stuffy(悶熱的)former laundry room and each night was a new in humidity. Still, it felt

My summer holidays had always been a time. I spent hours playing basketball and swimming. I talked to my Mom while she tended her flowers. I helping my Dad drag firewood for the winter. Finally when my were at their lowest, I heard a at the door. I opened it and was to see my parents standing there with big smiles to fill my heart and a box full of food to feed my hungry friends. We spent the afternoon eating, on each other’s news, and just being together. It felt so good, and I felt so loved.
Victor Hugo wrote that, “The supreme happiness of life is the that one is loved; loved for oneself, or better yet, loved despite oneself. ”It was that gift of happiness that my parents gave me that afternoon and every day of my life.

Many people believe that classical music is not relevant to young people today . However, this issue (問題) frequently causes heated debate.
Some people say that classical music is associated only with old people .For example, if you look at the audience at a classical concert , the majority is over the age of fifty.
Others say it is more popular than we first imagine . Many young people listen to classical music without realising .It is often used in films and advertisements. For example.a famous piece of classical music was used as the theme music for the 1990 World Cup . Not many people could have given its name , but millions enjoyed it .
Also, some people point out that young people produce new music based on classical ideas: for example, it is said that rap(說唱)music was invented by a classical musician in 1912, but it is now used by young people in pop music.
However, young people point to the fact that classical music has been outstripped(超越) by technology. To play a classical instrument, such as a violin, you need to study hard and practise for hours. Nowadays, you don't need to get aching arms from practising. A teenager can write and make music using a computer program in the comfort of their own bedroom.
A final point to in mind is that the term "classical music" is used to refer to a great variety of music, from jazz to pieces for large orchestras(管弦樂隊(duì)).This makes it even more difficult to say whether classical music is relevant to young people.
So, it may be only a minority of young people who play classical instruments , but when it comes to enjoying classical music, it depends on the piece of music. It may be more relevant to young people in the modern world than they realise!

Honey from the African forest is not only a kind of natural sugar, it is also delicious. Most people, and many animals, like eating it. However, the only way for them to get that honey is to find a wild bees’ nest and take the honey from it. Often, these nests are high up in trees, and it is difficult to find them. In parts of Africa, though, people and animals looking for honey have a strange and unexpected helper - a little bird called a honey guide.
The honey guide does not actually like honey, but it does like the wax in the beehives (蜂房). The little bird cannot reach this wax, which is deep inside the bees’ nest. So, when it finds a suitable nest, it looks for someone to help it. The honey guide gives a loud cry that attracts the attention of both passing animals and people. Once it has their attention, it flies through the forest, waiting from time to time for the curious animal or person as it leads them to the nest. When they finally arrive at the nest, the _follower reaches in to get at the delicious honey as the bird patiently waits and watches. Some of the honey, and the wax, always falls to the ground, and this is when the honey guide takes its share.
Scientists do not know why the honey guide likes eating the wax, but it is very determined in its efforts to get it. The birds seem to be able to smell wax from a long distance away.
