12.FUZHOU,South China,Dec.18 (Fujian Daily)-Students of Fujian Province who date (約會) in middle school have slowly increased recently.It's said that they have obviously worse study skills,are four times more likely to drop out of school and report twice as much alcohol and tobacco use than their single classmates,according to a new research from the University of Fuzhou."Romantic relationships are a symbol of adolescence(青春期),but very few studies have examined how adolescents are different in the development of these relationships."said Lin Ming,the study author and professor in the College of Public Health.
Professor Lin followed a group of 624students over a four-year period from 9th to 12th grade.Each year,the group of students completed a survey showing whether they had dated and reported the frequency(頻率) of different behaviors,including the use of alcohol and tobacco.Their teachers completed questionnaires (調(diào)查表) about the students'performance in study.He found some students never or hardly ever reported dating from middle to high school,and these students had the best study skills according to their teachers.Other students dated infrequently in middle school but increased the frequency of dating in high school.
"Teachers regarded the students who reported the lowest frequency of dating as having the best study skills and the students with the highest dating as having the worst study skills,"according to the report.Study skills refer to behaviors that lead to success in study such as doing work for extra credit(學(xué)分),being well organized,finishing homework,working hard.
"Dating a classmate may have the emotional complications(復(fù)雜)"Lin said,"When the couple break up,they have to continue to see each other in class and perhaps witness the former-partner dating someone else.It is reasonable to think this could be linked to depression(消沉) and divert (轉(zhuǎn)移) attention from studying."
"Dating should not be considered a ceremony of growth in middle school."Lin concluded finally.

分析 本文講述的是年輕學(xué)生之間的約會對學(xué)生的學(xué)習(xí)產(chǎn)生的不良的影響.

解答 27-30 CDBB
27.C細(xì)節(jié)題.根據(jù)文章第一段Students who date (約會) in middle school have significantly worse study skills…..可知在中學(xué)時期約會的學(xué)生往往會在學(xué)業(yè)上表現(xiàn)欠佳.故C正確.
28.D 細(xì)節(jié)題.根據(jù)文章倒數(shù)第二段"At all points in time, teachers rated the students who reported the lowest frequency of dating as having the best study skills and the students with the highest dating as having the worst study skills,"according to the journal article可知與別人約會的頻率與學(xué)習(xí)的技能有直接的聯(lián)系.故D正確.
29.B 細(xì)節(jié)題.根據(jù)文章最后"when the couple break up.they have to continue to see each other in class and perhaps witness the ex-partner dating someone else.It is reasonable to think this could be linked to depression and divert (轉(zhuǎn)移)attention from studying."說明伴侶分手以后,他們在學(xué)習(xí)上的注意力都會被分散.故B正確.
30.B 細(xì)節(jié)題.根據(jù)文章第一段Students who date (約會)in middle school have significantly worse study skills, are four times more likely to drop out of school and report twice as much alcohol and tobacco use than their single classmates可知約會對學(xué)生的學(xué)習(xí)有很大影響.

4.Some children are natural-born bosses.They have a strong need to make decisions,manage their environment,and lead rather than follow.Stephen Jackson,a Year One student,"operates under the theory of what's mine is mine and what's yours is mine,"says his mother."The other day I bought two new Star Wars light sabers(劍).Later,I saw Stephen with the two new ones while his brother was using the beat-up ones."
"Examine the extended family,and you'll probably find a bossy grandparent,aunt,uncle or cousin in every generation.It's an inheritable trait,"says Russell Barkley,a professor at the Medical University of South Carolina.Other children who may not be particularly bossy can gradually gain dominance(支配地位) when they sense their parents are weak,hesitant,or in disagreement with each other.
Whether it's inborn nature or developed character at work,too much control in the hands of the young isn't healthy for children or the family."Fear is at the root of a lot of bossy behaviour,"says family psychologist John Taylor."Children,"he says in his book From Defiance to Cooperation,"have secret feelings of weakness and a desire to feel safe.It's the parents'role to provide that protection."
When a"boss child"doesn't learn limits at home,the stage is set for a host of troubles outside the family.The overly willful and unbending child may have trouble obeying teachers or coaches,for example,or trouble keeping friends.It can be pretty lonely as the top dog if no one likes your bossy ways.
"I see more and more parents giving up their power,"says Barkley,who has studied bossy behavior for more than 30years."They bend too far because they don't want to be as strict as their own parents were.But they also feel less confident about their parenting skills.Their kids,in turn,feel more anxious."
So for the sake of the children, parents should be strict with them in a suitable way and get more knowledge to be good parents.

Lunch areas at the participating schools are equipped with three clearly marked bins-compost,recycle and share.While the first two are common in schools,the third is rare,where kids can put their unwanted drinks,fruits,and even untouched sandwiches.Items in the  container are available for any student that wants them.Whatever remains at the end of the day is donated to the food bank.Giordano says the three bins have helped reduce the nun of trash bags from an average of 22to just 2!
To ensure kids adopt similar habits at home,the non-profit has created extensive   curriculum to educate families  about the importance of sorting waste into the proper streams of recycling,composting,trash and food to donate-They also urge parents to have  conversations with their kids about food choices.

The other catch?Customers have to eat their  meals inside a dumpster(大型垃圾裝卸車)!The place,of course,is totally clean.It is just a symbolic gesture.In addition to helping people rethink their actions,Treuhaft also helps them to do good by donating part of the profits to non-profits devoted to fighting against food waste.
