For the last couple of weeks, I had been stuck in front of my computer working on a project that was very important to me. My every waking hour was consumed by the project and although I imagined that I would feel happy after completing parts of the project, I was confused to find that instead, I was feeling rather depressed. I tried a range of methods to help cheer myself up. I had a relaxing bath, cooked a delicious meal to enjoy with my family and even watched a lighthearted movie, but to no avail. It was only when I turned to meditation(沉思)for a solution that the answer came to me: turn to nature!
The very next day, I grabbed my camera and a bottle of water and set off to spend a few hours walking in a nature reserve, even though it was pouring with rain. Within a couple of minutes I felt alive again. To be honest, I felt like a young school girl again and had to stop myself from hopping along the path singing, "I'm singing in the rain", a song I used to sing when I was a child. I think as adults we often try too hard to control our inner children and as a result we restrain(限制) our own spirits, which only leads to depression and stress.
Interestingly, it has been shown that people who spend 40 minutes walking in a nature reserve have a drop in their blood pressure levels, but this does not happen when they spend a similar amount of time walking in a busy city centre.
If you feel a little low in spirit and know that you have spent too much time indoors, relax completely, remove your shoes and let your inner child come out and play.
1.The author walked in a nature reserve in the rain in order to__________.
A. take photos
B. cheer herself up
C. hop along the path
D. find a solution to the project
2.The underlined part "to no avail" in Paragraph 1 probably means " __________".
A. uninteresting B. unrelated
C. unsuccessful D. unexpected
3.In the author's opinion, __________.
A.a bath can make people relaxed
B. adults should express their inner feelings freely
C. walking in a busy city centre harms people's health
D. depression is usually caused by hard work
4.The last paragraph mainly serves as a(n) __________.
A. suggestion B. explanation
C. introduction D. reminder

How to improve our life? Many people think that they have to accept whatever life throws at them. They’ll say, “This is my destiny(命運(yùn)). I cannot change it.”
Of course not! You don’t have to suffer needlessly. Your life depends on you, not on other factors.
I know a woman who says she just accepts what life gives her because she has done everything she can to improve it. Guess what her lifestyle is? She wakes up in the morning, goes to work, comes back home, relaxes, chats with people, watches TV, and then goes to sleep. Next day, the same routine cycle follows.
Huh! Is this what she calls “doing her best”? She believes she has tried her best and just accepts it in her heart that this is the life that has been intended for her and that her luck can only change if God wills it. She hasn’t realized that we have to do our share of making the effort to live the life of our dreams.
Remember that you harvest what you sow. You have to get off the sofa, get your eyes off the TV screen, get your hands off the phone (unless it’s helpful to your success), and get your mind and body to work! Don’t expect your luck to change, unless you do something about it. If something goes wrong, don’t just regard it as a temporary(暫時(shí)的) problem; Instead, learn your lesson, make the most of the situation, and do something to solve the problem. It’s not enough to think positively; you also have to act positively.
If someone’s life is in trouble, do you just hope and pray that things will turn out fine? Of course not! You get to do anything you can to save the person. So it is with your own life. It is not enough to hope for the best, but you have to do your best. In other words, don’t just stand (or sit) there, do something to improve your life.
1.According to the woman mentioned in Para.3, her life________.
A. doesn’t need improving
B. couldn’t be improved
C. will be better some day
D. will be worse in the future
2.What does the author think of the woman’s life?
A. Positive. B. Passive.
C. Disturbing. D. Colorful.
3.In Para.5, the author emphasized the importance of ________.
A. positive action B. positive thinking
C. hope for the best D. intention to succeed
4.The text is mainly written to advise you to _________.
A. understand yourself B. believe in yourself
C. improve your life D. change your normal way

科目:高中英語(yǔ) 來(lái)源:2014-2015學(xué)年湖北省襄陽(yáng)市四校高一下期中聯(lián)考英語(yǔ)試卷(解析版) 題型:閱讀理解
A 17-year-old boy, caught sending text messages in class, was recently sent to the vice principal's office at Millwood High School in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
The vice principal, Steve Gallagher, told the boy he needed to focus on the teacher, not his cellphone. The boy listened politely and nodded, and that's when Mr. Gallagher noticed the student's fingers moving on his lap. He was texting while being scolded for texting!
"It was a subconscious(下意識(shí)的) act," said Mr. Gallagher, who took the phone away. "Young people today are connected socially from the moment they open their eyes in the morning until they close their eyes at night. It's addictive(上癮的). They can’t simply stop doing that."
Because so many people in their teens and early 20s are in this constant whir of socializing – accessible(易接近的) to each other every minute of the day via cellphone, instant messaging and social-networking Web sites -- there are a host of new questions that need to be addressed in schools, in the workplace and at home. Chief among them: How much work can "hyper-socializing" students or employees really accomplish if they are holding multiple conversations with friends via text-messaging, or are obsessively checking Facebook? Almost a quarter of today's teens check Facebook more than 10 times a day, according to a 2009 survey by Common Sense Media, a non-profit group that monitors media's impact on families.
Will these young people get rid of this habit once they enter the work force, or will employers come to see texting and "social-network checking" as accepted parts of the workday?
"In past generations, students got in trouble for passing notes in class. Now students are adept at texting with their phones still in their pockets," said 40-year-old Mr. Gallagher, "and they're able to communicate with someone one floor down and three rows over. Students are just fundamentally different today. They will take suspensions(休學(xué)) rather than give up their phones."
1.When the boy was scolded for texting, _________________.
A. he was polite and regretful
B. he was trying sending another message
C. his fingers shouldn’t be put on his lap
D. he listened carefully and nodded
2.From what the boy did we know___________.
A. Using the cellphone is addictive for the boy
B. The boy will stop using the cellphone
C. The boy will leave school
D. The boy wasn’t willing to accept being scolded
3.What can we learn about the students in their teens and early 20s?
A. All of them are addicted to using cellphones.
B. They will get rid of the habit once they go to work.
C. They are greatly different from the past generations.
D. Most of them check Facebook more than 10 times a day.
4.What can we infer from the passage?
A. Facebook is a kind of book students need to read at school.
B. The employers will accept texting at workday.
C. The students will give up their phones one day.
D. It’s convenient for students to communicate with others with cellphones.
