【題目】Our room was on the second floor but you could still hear the roar of the ocean and see the stars at night. I used to take long walks along the water. The food in town was wonderful and the people were very friendly. The area was very quiet and peaceful, and fairly deserted.

The last evening of our vacation, however, we all heard strange footsteps following closely behind us as we were walking up to our room in the holiday centre. We turned around and noticed a fairly young man moving very rapidly across the beach and getting closer to us. He was tall and wore a baseball cap. We couldn’t see his face and he was approaching us very rapidly. The man’s actions made my dad very nervous. Dad warned us that we’d better try to make it to our hotel room as quickly as possible. I didn’t like my dad’s voice; I could hear fear in it. It was late and we were all alone. We didn’t have any cell phones on us. I never saw Dad as worried as he was then and I knew that something was terribly wrong. The sense of fear started to overwhelm Mom and me. We had had such a good time in town. Now, the night was rapidly turning into a dangerous situation.

We could hear the man’s footsteps getting closer. Dad’s face was almost pale. The so-called intruder (侵入者) had moved nearer and nearer when all of a sudden, the nearby vending (自動(dòng)販賣) machine started going crazy and spitting out cans of soda! The noise actually scared the intruder and he ran out of sight. My parents were shaking, but we all turned around to see who had put money into the vending machine downstairs, and actually saved us, but no one was around at all. Not a soul.

Sam went to the cinema the other night. Entered the cinema, he thought of taking off his coat. But the cinema was very cold and he has to keep his coat on. As there weren’t much space between the rows, his legs began to ache shortly after he took up his seat. Worse still, they found it difficult to breath easily. Looking around, he saw a lot of people smoking. At last the film started. That made him angry was that the person in front was wearing so big hat that he could hardly see the screen. 【題目】One of the most successful singers of the twentieth century, Ella Fitzgerald has made several different styles of her own. During the 1940’s she developed her own “scat singing” a breathless, nonsensesyllable stylefor songs like “Flying Home” and “Lady Be Good.”

Ella Fitzgerald was the perfect musical partner for her friend, the trumpeter Louis Armstrong, matching him in warmth and artistry. “I just like music, period,” she said. “To me, it’s a story. There’s only one thing better than singing…. It’s more singing.”

As is often the case, when people are attending meeting, having meals or waiting buses, you can always find them addicted to their phones, complete ignoring others.

This is really a common phenomenon in our life. The reason is why smart phones nowadays can be used for people to play mobile games and kept in touch with friends through QQ and WeChat. But, too much exposure to phones are bad for people in terms of health. Moreover, people involved in phones fail to communicate good with those around them.

As far as I am concerning, people should wisely make use of their phones to help with their work and study. Meanwhile, care most about their family and friends rather than mobile phones.

【題目】Does a 16-year-old have the ability to change the world, benefiting hundreds of thousands of people?

Olivia Hallisey should believe so. With her invention of new Ebloa test, the girl from US has become the winner of the 2015 Google Science Fair, a yearly competition for creative teenagers who want to make a difference in the world.

Hallisey’s method asks patients to put a sample of their saliva (唾液)onto a testing card. The card changes color if the person is infected with Ebloa. Present Ebloa tests can take up to 12 hours and cost $1,000. Hallisey’s method, by contrast, can be done just in 30 minutes for about $25. Moreover, the test needn’t be put in a refrigerator thanks to the silk material Olivia used to produce the testing cards.

Hallisey started working on the test one year ago when she saw Ebloa spreading across African countries. Her research was based on looking at and using previous research and her own creative ideas.

“She deserves all the praise she’s getting for her hard work, dedication, and intelligence,” said her science teacher Andrew. “Her project is very helpful for the medical diagnosis that we need in parts of the world where Ebola is most common.”

“What affects one country affects everyone,” Hallisey told CNBC. “We have to work together to find answers to the challenges that threaten global health, our environment and our world.”
