【題目】My husband and I are saving thousands of dollars every year by growing our own vegetables in our backyard. We learn something new every year and this website has been made to share tips with other people that would like to grow some of their own food.

It’s true that if you are starting from fresh, it will cost a little bit of money to get started. However, once everything is set up, the cost is very small and the rewards are huge. The size of your family and how many vegetables you eat determine exactly how much money you can save every year. We do a lot of juicing, so we are saving thousands of dollars by growing some carefully selected greens.

There is an amazing sense of accomplishment when you grow your own vegetables. Vegetables out of your vegetable garden don’t get any fresher, tastier or more satisfying. The whole family can get involved in this hobby and kids will learn where food comes from and appreciate nature even more.

Our approach to vegetable gardening is completely different from the normal one. We are doing it in the lazy way with zero digging and fertilizing(施肥). The way we grow our vegetables is to emulate natural ecosystems. No rows of carrots can be found in our garden beds. Rain forests seem to do just fine without human interference(干預(yù)) or having plants sown in rows, so we have applied the same principle to our vegetable garden and we care producing more vegetables than ever.

By copying nature we spend little time working in the vegetable garden but get a much better crop than previous years when we followed the rules. What can I say? We’re such rebels.(叛逆者)

1What does the author think about people growing their own vegetables?

A. It is a rewarding activity. B. It is costly in the beginning.

C. People should devote many efforts. D. People should share their tips.

2What does the underlined word “emulate” in paragraph 4 mean?

A. Create. B. Imitate(模仿).

C. Protect D. Improve.

3Why does the author call her and her husband “rebels”?

A. They use unconventional ways to grow vegetables.

B. They don’t buy vegetables from the market.

C. They even try to grow vegetables in the rain forests.

D. They don’t grow ordinary vegetables.

4Which of the following shows the structure of the text? (P: Paragraph)

A. B.

C. D.

The person who touched me most is an unknown lady. I study in a city school but lives in a village 15 kilometers away. One afternoon, I receive a call from my family saying my mom was serious ill. I hurried to the bus station, only find the last bus had left. Feel anxious, I decided to walk home. On the way a car stopped and the driver asked me that I needed help. Worried about being cheated, I said anything. But she was such sincere that I finally accepted her offer. When we reached my village, it was dark. Seeing her car out of the sight. I was in tear. Whenever I think of her, I always feel grateful.

【題目】A Kickstarter launched Friday will allow interested parties to set up a camera and pet toys in their home for anyone to play with their pets remotely. It’s called the ipet Companion, an Internet-connected camera and device that streams video online and allows basic commands from people watching. They can move the camera, look at their pet and press a button to swing a toy around.

Obviously, demand is strong. The Kickstarter proved so popular that Scott Harris, iPet Companion’s founder, said that thousands of people started asking for it.

The reason why people keep talking about this is the emotional(情感的) connection they have from a thousand miles away. If you want, you can enter a queue to move the camera and play with the pets. Each room has toys that are hooked(鉤住) into Internet-connected devices, and you can move them by pressing a button.

But there’s sort of a problem: Pets get bored easily. Young pets will stay more interested than adult pets, but finally even a baby pet will get bored, too. To stop that from happening, you’d better limit the pets’ access(接近) to the boys and change the place where they’re located in the room.

Harris understands this and said you can plug anything into that adapter(適配器) ---toys that you can get on your own. And that’s where the iPet Companion really gets interesting. Harris explained that the device is actually sort of a Trojan horse to bring the “Internet of things” to more homes. You don’t really have to use it for pets. The adapter could be used for any device with an electrical plug---a sprinkler, say, that you’d be able to activate to water your grass.

“Our whole goal, our whole purpose is to let anyone control any physical object that they want to while they travel anywhere in the woorld,” Harris said.

1What does the underlined word “remotely” in Paragragh 1 probably mean?

A. far away.

B. For free.

C. With pity.

D. Out of control.

2Many people are interested in iPet Companion because______________.

A. it can be used to kill time

B. it is easy to control online

C. it can meet all of their demands

D. they can show their love for faraway pets by using it

3Why do the pets stop playing the toys soon?

A. Pets are not clever enough to play the toys.

B. They don’t receive rewards from the games.

C. Toys are played with too often at the same place.

D. Adult pets prevent young ones from playing the games.

4What can we infer from what Scott Harris said?

A. iPet Companion is only a kind of toy.

B. Kickstarter can be used in many other ways.

C. iPet Companion can actually be turned into a toy horse.

D. iPet Companion can look after pets while their owners are away.
