Li Hua

【答案】Dear Jim,

I'm happy to receive your letter and know you're coming to China.

Of the two trips to the Yangtze River and Mount Tai, both are highly recommended. Personally, I prefer the tour along the Yangtze River, the longest river and one of the mother rivers of the Chinese civilization. You can learn a lot about the history of China and Chinese people. Moreover, the scenery along the river is amazing, with many well-known sightseeing spots. That's why I think the trip along the Yangtze River is a better choice.

Hope you'll have a good time in China.

Your,

Li Hua

【題目】閱讀理解
In the fall of 1959, Freed suffered a bad reputation for rumors of bribery (賄賂行為), and his troubles were too strong to be resisted. When WABC asked Freed to sign a statement swearing that he had never taken bribes, he refused and was fired. Although he later signed such a statement for WNEW-TV, he lost his television show as well.
Finding himself unwelcome in New York, Freed fled to the West Coast, where he managed to land a daytime disc jockey (流行音樂播音員) job at KDAY in Los Angeles in 1960. Legal problems continued to bother him, though, and he was charged with taking bribes of more than $30,000 from a number of record companies. Publicly, Freed denied that he had ever accepted direct bribes, although he acknowledged that he had accepted gifts from record companies, but only for playing records that he was certain would become hits anyway. After a short time at KDAY, he left when the station management refused to let him promote his live rock ‘n' roll shows. He returned to New York, but not as a broadcaster. At the height of the great enthusiasm for the twist dance, he hosted a Manhattan twist revue (時事諷刺劇), but when this enthusiasm cooled, he found a disc jockey job at WQAM in Miami in 1962. During this difficult period, Freed began drinking heavily and lost his job in Miami after only two months. In December of 1962 he was found guilty in New York of two charges of commercial bribery and was given a six-month sentence and fined $300. This effectively ended his career.
Freed spent the last years of his life in Palm Springs, California. Although he had redefined what it meant to be a disc jockey and named the music that had become an anthem (圣歌) for the world's youth, he was a disgraced (恥辱的) and broken man, no longer able to work in the business he loved. On January 20, 1965, he died in a hospital in Palm Springs.
(1)Why was Freed fired by WABC?
A.Because he took bribes.
B.Because he swore he didn't take bribes.
C.Because he refused to admit taking bribes.
D.Because he refused to make a statement as WABC required.
(2)According to Freed, he accepted the gifts from record companies only when _______.
A.the gifts were not valuable
B.the gifts had no connection with playing records
C.the records he was asked to play were very famous
D.the records he was asked to play would surely become popular
(3)What can we learn from the passage?
A.Freed didn't take bribes at all.
B.Freed showed no talent for music.
C.Freed had made contributions in his career.
D.KDAY fired Freed because of his addiction to alcohol.

【題目】Winston Churchill once said, “Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference. “Life has never been kind, but if we really want to enjoy it, it can only be possible with a positive attitude. The only way to have a better and pleasant future is to change outlook or attitude towards life.

Look at the Brighter Side of Things.

Even in the most unfortunate situations, there is always something to look forward to. In life, we do come across various situations where we compare our fate with others. 1 Never go to the comparison road, because it is endless.

Believe in Yourself.

Lack of motivation causes a great deal of stress, and negative thoughts easily pop up when a person suffers from an inferiority complex (自卑感).2 Clear your mind and get rid of all the negativity.

Think Positively.

3 it is also the first step in self-improvement, as improving oneself is only possible through positive thinking. It has been noted that positive thinkers are better equipped in handling disappointments as compared to pessimists (悲觀者), as they usually focus on things that can be done to solve it rather than spending hours complaining.

Help Others.

Helping or being kind to someone in their time of need is probably the easiest way to be happy. It is by doing these simple deeds that important discoveries about oneself are made.4 Be Thankful.

Each day take a few moments and be thankful for all the great pleasures that life has provided. Even during tough times, remember the people who were always there and provided unconditional love and support.5

A. Think about everything that is right and forget about the wrong; your heart will be filled with thankfulness in no time.

B. Helping others, even in small things, helps in the birth of a happier and generous you.

C. Never think less of yourself because you are as different and important as everyone else.

D. Some people will always compare their worst with the best of others.

E. The best way to live is to get used to everyday changes and work hard.

F. Thinking positively is an important part of being positive.

G. First make the situation clear and see if they are right.
