.第一節(jié):閱讀理解(共15小題;每小題2分,滿(mǎn)分30分)
A
Today I’ll be talking about the invention of the camera and photography. The camera is often thought to be a modern invention, but as early as 1727, a German physicist discovered that light darkens silver salt. Used as a camera, a big box was set up, and a small hole was cut in one side to let the light in; he made temporary pictures on the salt. Silver salt is still the base of the photographic film today. Then a French scientist made the first permanent picture by using a special piece of metal which was covered with silver salt. A photograph he made in 1826 still exists.
The painter De Gear improved the process by covering the metal also with placing the common salt which we can eat. This was in 1839, the official date of beginning of photographs. But the problem was the printing of the photographs. And it wasn’t until other scientists developed the kind of photographic paper we now use that good prints were possible and photography became truly modern. In the 1870’s, Matthew Bradey was able to take his famous pictures in American Civil War. In the 20’s of this century, Georges Mann of the United States simplified film developing (沖洗), and Dr Edward Lane invented the so—called ‘Instant Camera’ which uses self—developing film. If we say photography came into existence in 1839, it follows that it took more than 100 years for the camera to reach its present condition of technical refinement(密度).
1. What discovery was the basis of photography?
A. Light darkens silver salt.                     B. Light darkens natural salt.
C. Light darkens silver.                         D. Light darkens self--developing film
2. How was the first permanent picture made?
A. By making use of special paper.               B. By adding common salt to silver salt.
C. By giving a slight colour to the silver salt.       D. By using a special piece of metal.
3. What does the speaker regard as the official date of beginning of photography?
A. 1727          B. 1826            C. 1839            D. 1870
4. According to the speaker why is Matthew Bradey remembered today?
A. He was a soldier.                   B. He took war photographs.
C. He painted portraits.                 D. He designed a portable camera.
5. What did Doctor Edward Lane invent?
A. A cheap process of developing film at home.
B. A new kind of film.
C. An automatic printer.
   D. An ‘instant camera’ that develops its own film.

Snowboarding(滑板滑雪) became a Winter Olympic event in 1998 but many people still don’t think it’s a “real” sport. I asked ten of my friends about this and eight of them said it shouldn’t be an Olympic event. Snowboarders must be skilful and strong, just like other athletes(運(yùn)動(dòng)員), and they train just as hard. So, why do people have this opinion?
Well, I think there are a few reasons. First of all, snowboarders believe that having fun is part of the sport. Maybe people think they’re enjoying themselves too much. I guess they feel that “real” sports should look like hard work. Secondly, snowboarders believe it’s of importance to show their personal style. They like to be dressed in modern clothes and often have interesting haircuts. In some people’s eyes, a well-trained athlete just doesn’t wear a funny hat or a nose-ring. Thirdly, it’s a new sport and many people haven’t tried it yet. This might make them think it’s easy, when, in fact, it’s not. Snowboarding is just as difficult, if not more difficult, than skiing.
Whatever the reasons, I think it’s time we accept that having fun doesn’t mean you’re lazy and that someone with blue hair can be a champion(冠軍).

A Love Oriented “Family”
“Jia” or “Family” in English, is one of the most widely read novels by Chinese literature giant Ba Jin. It has been again adapted into a TV series, with its main plot telling the love story between the young heroes, according to a report by the Beijing Times. “Family” is among Ba Jin’s most acclaimed(受稱(chēng)贊的)novels and is one of his three semi-autobiographical novels known as the “Torrent” trilogy(三部曲), composed of “Family”, “Spring” and “Autumn”. Written between 1931 and 1940 in pre-revolutionary China, the novel attacked the traditional Chinese family structure and depicted the struggles and tragedies, love and hatred of the young generation in a story of family decline. It has attracted extensive readers for its anti-feudal(封建的) thoughts and unique artistic charm, winning an important position in contemporary Chinese literature.
In China, family is closely related to country, hence the appearance of the very country of five thousand years' civilization. The ideal of ancient people, namely, “self-cultivation, regulating the family, managing the nation, and establishing peace all over the world”, fully reflects the close relation between the family and the country.
“Our version is not as depressing as the original story. It is modern and cater to a younger audience,” said the director Wang Jun at the press release in Beijing. Starring family faces including Huang Lei, Huang Yi and Li Xiaoran, the drama focuses on the complicated relationships between the characters and throws light on the resistance against feudal(封建的) restrictions. “We have to act as teenage boys, it is quite a challenge,” said Huang Lei, an experienced actor who is 36 years old. Huang Yi said “Family” is a good chance for her to switch style because she has to play a virtuous wife whose life ends in tragedy.
81. What are the three novels known as the “Torrent” trilogy by Ba Jin?

82. According to paragraph three, we know the original story is ____________.

The most intensive period of speech and language development for humans is during the first three years of life, a period when the brain is developing and maturing. These skills appear to develop best in a world that is rich with sounds, sights, and consistent(一致的,協(xié)調(diào)的,相容的)exposure(揭發(fā))to the speech and language of others.
There is increasing evidence suggesting that there are "critical periods" for speech and language development in infants and young children. This means that the developing brain is best able to absorb a language, any language, during this period. The beginning signs of communication occur during the first few days of life when an infant learns that a cry will bring food, comfort, and companionship.  As they grow, infants begin to sort out the speech sounds (phonemes) or building blocks that compose the words of their language. Research has shown that by six months of age, most children recognize the basic sounds of their native language
As the speech mechanism (jaw, lips, and tongue) and voice mature, an infant is able to make controlled sound. By six months of age, an infant usually babbles or produces repetitive syllables such as "ba, ba, ba" or "da, da, da." By the end of their first year, most children have mastered the ability to say a few simple words. Children are most likely unaware of the meaning of their first words, but soon learn the power of those words as others respond to them.
By eighteen months of age, most children can say eight to ten words. By age two, most are putting words together in crude sentences such as "more milk." During this period, children rapidly learn that words symbolize or represent objects, actions, and thoughts. At this age they also engage in representational or pretend play. At ages three, four, and five, a child's vocabulary rapidly increases, and he or she begins to master the rules of language.
1.According to the passage, which of the statements is NOT true
A.The developing brain is best able to absorb any language.
B.The beginning signs of communication occur during the first few days of life.
C.By six months of age, all children recognize the basic sounds of their native language.
D.By 2, children rapidly learn that words symbolize or represent objects, actions, and thoughts.
2.We can infer from the passage that____
A.by six months of age, an infant must babble or produce repetitive syllables
B.by their first year, most children are most likely aware of the meaning of their first words
C.by 2, children rapidly learn that words symbolize or represent objects, actions, and thoughts
D.the brain development is critical to develop children’s speech and language ability
3.That there are “critical periods” for speech and language development in infants and young children means ______
A.that children are so young that it is easy for them to study
B.that the developing brain is best able to absorb a language, any language
C.that the children are eager to learn the language
D.that we must take care of children
4 In Paragraph 3, the underlined word “mechanism” can be replaced by ______.
A.organs          B.skills            C.a(chǎn)bilities          D.habits

Dealing with a jealous friend isn’t easy. It can be very frustrating. Find out how to make the best of the situation, be fair to yourself and your friend, and, if possible, preserve the friendship. It can be done!
Try to find out why your friend is jealous. Is it something you said? Is it something you have little or no control over, such as your looks or your family? Is it something your friend should be supportive of, such as your grades or a special talent of yours?
Once you know where the jealousy comes from, try to be empathetic: Imagine you're your friend or how you'd feel in the same situation.
Find out what your friend really wants to have. Do they wish they felt smarter or had more supportive parents? Maybe you can be helpful. Let them know that you believe in them and ask what you can do help them get what they want.
Try not to brag, show off or make things that would make your friend feel frustrated. This will only fan the flames of the jealousy.
Show that you're happy about your life, but be sure to show interest and excitement about things going on in your friend's life, too. Take some time to point out some of their unique strengths and good qualities.
Sometimes jealousy is mixed with a lot of anger. If your efforts to listen to your friend and encourage them aren't working, give them some time to cool off. They may need to work out their feelings alone or with someone who's not the object of their jealousy.
Call up some extra support for yourself, too. Another friend, a relative or a girlfriend/boyfriend may be able to help you sort out your feelings about being the object of your friend's jealousy. A lot of people feel bad about making someone else jealous, so be sure to remind yourself why you're a good person!

Why is setting goals important?   71   Instead of just letting life happen to you, goals allow you to make your life happen.
Successful people imagine how their life should be and set lots of goals.   72   It’s like having a map to show you where you want to go. Think of in this way. There are two drivers. One has a destination in mind which can be found in a map. She can drive straight there without any wasted time or wrong turns. The other driver has no goal or destination or map. She starts off at the same time from the same place as the first driver. But she drivers aimlessly around. Never getting anywhere, just using up gas. Which driver do you want to be?
73  They decide what they want in life and then get there by making plans and setting goals. Unsuccessful people just let life happen by accident. Goals aren’t difficult to set, and they aren’t difficult to reach.   74  You are the one who must decide what to achieve and in what direction to aim your life.
75  Written goals can be reviewed regularly, and have more power. Like a contract with yourself, they are harder to neglect or forget. Also when you write your goals in a particular way you are able to make yourself continuously aware of situations that will bring you nearer to your goal.
A.Research tells us that when we write a goal down we are more likely to achieve it.
B.Winners in life set goals and follow through.
C.It’s up to you to find out what your goals really are.
D.It’s difficult for a driver to reach his destination without a map.
E.Because goals can help you do, be and experience everything you want in life.
F.By setting goals you are taking control of your life.
G.Because everybody should have a goal in his mind.
