A group of people from Denmark have formed the B-Society. According to them, human beings are divided into types: A-People, and B-People. A-People have no problem getting up in the morning, and operate much better earlier in the day. However, B-people are better later in the day. “I’m useless early in the morning,” says one of the members of the B-Society.”All I can do is drink coffee, and stare into space. People used to get up early because they had to feed the animals. But I haven’t got any cows or chickens, so I can sleep late,” She adds. Since the society was set up, the B-Society has welcomed several thousand members.

Right now, the B-Society is fighting hard for businesses to join its B-certification (證明) list. Companies that are “B-certified” basically give their employees the opportunity to come in when they want. In some companies, employees arrive at any time up to 3:30 pm --- each to their own rhythm (節(jié)奏).

And it is not just businesses that are benefiting from this. Teenagers who can’t get out of bed in the morning, and parents who never quite get the kids to school on time, can now benefit from B-classes. From next year, a school in Copenhagen will offer classes which start later in the day (at 10 instead of eight). And even the government seems to like the idea.

The B-Society was founded by Camilla Kring, a professor from the University of Copenhagen. On her website, she says, “When B-people’s work rhythms are considered at the work place, their productivity (生產(chǎn)力) and quality of life is increased, which can increase productivity for the entire organization.”

She adds that, “B-Society will create a new daily rhythm in schools and other institutions (機(jī)構(gòu)) as an alternative to the current rhythm of ‘early at work and early at home’. We are working for the establishment of kindergartens, primary and secondary schools as well as universities that open between 10 am and 8 pm.”

Would you like to work for a B-certified company?

1.According to the text, who belong to the B-Society?

A. Late risers. B. Businessmen.

C. Animal lovers. D. Sleep experts.

2.In B-certified companies, employees can ____.

A. get more working opportunities

B. join any other companies

C. work on any days they choose

D. go to work at any time of a day

3.In Camilla Kring’s opinion, B-people _______.

A. are more hard-working than A-people

B. have a better quality of life than A-people

C. are more productive if given more freedom

D. like the rhythm of “early at work, early at home”

4.The author’s purpose in writing this text is to _____.

A. stress the importance of getting up early

B. express his attitude towards the B-Society

C. introduce a group having a special daily rhythm

D. call on people to work for B-certified companies

In some countries, open campus (校園) is widely accepted. For example, French students have a two-hour lunch break from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. During their lunch break, they can eat at home or at a restaurant. But students in the Philippines have a tougher schedule. They have only two 15-minute breaks and an hour for lunch.

What Schedule would be best for American schools?

Having breaks between classes is great, but having breaks off campus is even better. There are several advantages to open campus, including simple conveniences such as being able to eat different meals during lunchtime, rather than having the cafeteria (自助食堂) dishes, as well as having the chance to take a break at home.

However, there are more reasons I disagree with allowing high school students the right to have an open campus. Sure, it’s great being able to escape school during the day for a while, but soon enough that may easily become the rest of the day.

If open campus is allowed, it is very possible that such freedom will make it all too easy for students to skip their afternoon classes. Of course, there will be students responsible enough to come back to school.

But unexpected problems such as heavy traffic, city bus delays (延遲) or cars breaking down may prevent them from returning to school. It benefits the students to stay in school during lunch hours to avoid transportation issues.

Depending on how close the school is to restaurants and students’ homes, open campus could be a great idea. Unfortunately, though, most public schools in America are not located close enough to restaurants or students’ homes, thus causing the negative results to outweigh (超過) the positives in the end.

1.Compared with French students, students in the Philippines .

A.have a poor diet B.get better grades

C.have less freedom D.prefer eating on campus

2.In the author’s opinion, open campus will probably .

A.lead to heavy traffic

B.cause students to cut school

C.a(chǎn)ttract more students to school

D.increase students’ sense of responsibility

3.What can we learn from the text about most American public schools?

A.They have a two-hour lunch break.

B.They allow students to eat outside.

C.They plan to have open campus.

D.They are far from students’ homes.

4.The text mainly discusses whether high schools should .

A.have a strict schedule

B.have a long lunch break

C.have open campus for lunch

D.be located close to restaurants

Developing healthy eating habits starts from childhood, therefore it is important for parents to teach and provide children with a healthy diet. DPHSS administrator of the Bureau of Nutrition Services, Charlie Morris told KUAM News, “A healthy diet for a child consists of a lot of fruits and vegetables in the diet limiting the amount of simple sugars in the diet and high fat food and highly processed food.”

This means staying away as much as possible from food such as chips, cookies, candies and sugary drinks, as all children need to have meals which involve a well-balanced diet. Community nutritionist Thelma Romoso said, “The fruit, the vegetable, the grain, the protein, and also the milk, the diary product, so for the fruits it’s easy for a mother to go into the two plus three concept of fruits and vegetables or five a day.”

This concept means that there are at least two servings of fruits a day, three servings of vegetables a day which can be served for lunch and dinner. As for protein parents can make a variety of dishes from chicken, beef, fish or even dried beans to pledge the child gets three servings a day.

Morris said that the child’s hunger level controls how much is eaten and the parent controls what and when the meal is offered, saying, “Mom needs to ensure that the food offered is good food for the child to eat and throughout the day depending on how active they are, snacks are not a bad thing, so the mom should offer good kinds of snacks.”

When it comes to preparing your child’s lunch and snacks for school, make sure to keep in mind that the food you provide should not only be a source of energy but also be nutritionally beneficial such as fresh fruits, and whole grain bread. But parents must be sure to remember that a good nutritional diet must be balanced with physical activity, namely it is important that children get outside and run around and play and get activity in addition to eating a good diet.

1.What does the author intend to tell us in the passage?

A. Choose healthy food and snacks for your child.

B. Fruits and vegetables are good for your child.

C. Take steps to provide a good lunch for your child.

D. Make various and delicious dishes for your child.

2.According to Charlie Morris we can know that_________.

A. mothers should prepare delicious food by themselves

B. highly processed food should be reduced in daily life

C. sugars and high fat exist in few kinds of food

D. active children prefer more and more snacks

3.It can be inferred from the passage that _________.

A. fresh fruits are often ignored by children

B. a good nutritional diet may cost too much

C. choosing healthy food is linked with income

D. parents play a very important role in children’s healthy diet

Do you like listening to English songs to learn the language ? Some students don’t believe doing so can help them learn English. I have to say they think wrongly. Listening to English songs can help you learn the language better. You may ask how. Just read on.

Lyrics are not easily forgotten. You listen to them over and over again throughout your life. Once you learn them, they are going to stay with you, and you are going to review them repeatedly because you enjoy them. If you learn just one song per week for a year, those are 52 songs full of new vocabulary and phrases that you will never forget.

Songs give you perfect pronunciation models. As you learn to sing them, you are practicing your pronunciation, you are imitating native speakers, and you are learning how to speak better. The rhythm naturally leads to better pronunciation, better intonation(聲調(diào)), and more fluency.

When you start paying attention to the lyrics, your listening skills naturally improve. Once you learn a few songs, you’ll start gathering a lot of songs and vocabulary. A larger vocabulary usually means better listening comprehension. Just the fact that you start caring about the lyrics will activate your listening skills and listening to music in English will become an enjoyable learning exercise.

Another huge merit is that you get to practice your grammar. Some of the most intelligent grammar questions my students bring to me come from songs. You can probably even map the entire language into pop songs and greatly improve your grammar by learning the lyrics to your favorite songs.

Now we can conclude that listening to English songs can really help you learn the language well. So listen to more English songs in your free time. You can put the lyrics on your ipod or iphone and read them as you listen. Believe me, and you’ll benefit a lot.
