There are many useful suggestions that can help one to improve English. Here are some of them to increase one's English language vocabulary.
Learning English vocabulary is about much more than just learning the right words. It is based on understanding important words and expressions.
Learning a word will not help very much if you quickly forget it. Researches show that it takes from 10 to 20 repetitions(重復(fù)) to really make a word part of your vocabulary. Since most words are learned from how they are used in context (上下文), the more words one is shown, the better vocabulary one will have. Keep a piece of paper close to you. When you read, pay close attention to the word you do not know, write the word down and try to understand its meaning from the context. Then look up the word in a dictionary.
Remember that if you do not use English words that you have just learned in conversation or writing, you will forget them very quickly. So the best way to learn new words effectively is just by trying to use them in conversation and writing. Remember also that practice is the key to fluent spoken English.
Building vocabulary is a life-long task. Remember: "In the beginning was the word." Your future could depend on how rich your vocabulary is. It will also determine the quality of your communication.

Do you read reviews after you see a movie? I used to do that, but I usually regret. I read so much about a movie on advance that I often ended up not go to see it at all. The writers point out everything that's wrong with the film, but seldom mentions anything good about them. They also tell many things and even the ending of the movie. Lately I have changed way I choose movies to watch. I read reviews afterwards. What's importance to me is that I don't watch the talk shows in that people discuss movies, I don't ask others how they like of it. Now, I enjoy myself even more.

【題目】閱讀理解
Television has turned 88 years old onSeptember 7, 2015, and it has never looked better. In its youth, television wasa piece of furniture with a tiny, round screen showing unclear pictures oflow-budget programs. In spite of its shortcomings, it became popular. Between1950 and 1963, the number of American families with a television jumped from 9%to 92% of the population.
As the audience got larger, thetechnology got better. Television sets became more reliable through the 1960s.The reception (接收效果)improved. The picture improved. The major networks started broadcastingprograms in color.
Even greater improvements were comingaccording to Sanford Brown, who wrote an article for the Post in 1967.Surprisingly, just about every prediction he made in the article became areality. For example: All sets in the not-distant future will be colorinstruments. He also predicted that TV sets would become smaller, simpler, morereliable and less expensive and may forever put the TV repairman out of work.Smaller sets do not, of course, mean smaller screens. TV engineers expectscreens to get much bigger. However, today’s 3-D TV is even farther away, ifit’s coming at all. There is some doubt whether the public would be eager topay for it, in view of people’s cold reception given to 3-D movies.
But the technology with the greatestpotential, according to Brown, was cable television (有線電視), whichwas still in its early stages then. As he predicted, the future of cabletelevision was highly interactive (互動的). It wasn’t cable television that gaveAmericans their electronic connection to the world, however. It was theInternet. He even foresaw the future office: using picture phones, big-screentelevisions for conferences, and computers providing information at the touchof a button.
Brown ever said, “The future oftelevision is no longer a question of what we can invent. It’s a question ofwhat we want.”
(1)What can we infer about television sets in the 1960s?
A.They were very popular with Americans.
B.The reception showed no improvement.
C.They showed black-and-white pictures.
D.They were out of order now and then.
(2)Which of the followings did Sanford Brown fail to predict?
A.Television’s good quality.
B.The invention of 3-D TV.
C.The future office’s model.
D.The potential of cable TV.
(3)What is the text mainly about?
A.The shortcomings of television.
B.The bright future of television.
C.The development of television.
D.The invention of television.
