Many parents would like to teach their children English at home, but don't know how to start. It doesn't matter if your own English is not perfect. The most important thing is that you give your children lots of encouragement and praise. They will need some time to learn the language.
Make it a rule
Try to do certain activities at the same time every day. For example, you could read an English story with your children before bedtime. Repetition (重復) is important — children often need to hear words many times before they say them themselves.
Playing games
Cards are a great way to teach words and there are many different games which you can play with cards, such as Memory and Happy Families.
Using everyday situations
The advantage of teaching English at home is that you can use everyday situations to practice the language naturally. For example:
Talk about clothes when your child is getting dressed ("Let's put on your blue socks", etc.).
When you go to the supermarket, give your child a list of things to find.
Using songs
Songs are a really good way to learn new words. Songs with actions are especially good for very young children because they are able to join in.
A. Fifteen minutes is enough for very young children.
B. Children learn naturally when they are having fun.
C. Teach food words when you are cooking or going shopping.
D. The actions often show the meaning of the words in the song.
E. With younger children, there is no need to teach grammar rules.
F. Don't worry if your child doesn't start speaking English immediately.

【題目】閱讀理解
An environmental group called the Food Commission is unhappy and disappointed because of the sales of bottled water from Japan. The water, it angrily argues in public, has traveled 10,000 “food miles” before it reached Western customers. Transporting water halfway across the world is surely the extremely stupid use of fuel when there is plenty of water in the UK. It is also worrying that we were wasting our fuel by buying prawns from Indonesia (7,000 food miles ) and carrots from South Africa (5,900 food miles).
Counting the number of miles traveled done by a product is a strange way of trying to tell the true situation of the environmental damage due to industry. Most food is transported around the world on container ships that are extremely energy efficient. It should be noticed that a ton of butter transported 25 miles in a truck to a farmers’ market doesn’t necessarily use less fuel on its journey than a similar product transported hundreds of miles by sea. Besides, the idea of “food miles” ignores the amount of fuel used in the production. It is possible to cut down your food miles by buying tomatoes grown in Britain rather than those grown in Ghana. The difference is that the British ones will have been raised in heated greenhouse and the Ghanaian ones in the open sun.
What is the idea of “food miles” does provide, however, is the chance to cut out Third World countries from First World food markets. The number of miles traveled by our food should, as I see it, be regarded as a sign of the success of the global trade system, not a sign of damage to the environment.
(1)The Food Commission is angry because it thinks that ________.
A.UK wastes a lot of money importing food products
B.some imported goods causes environmental damage
C.growing certain vegetables causes environmental damage
D.people wasted energy buying food from other countries
(2)The phrase “food miles” in the passage refers to the distance ________.
A.that a food product travels to a market
B.that a food product travels from one market to another
C.between UK and other food producing countries
D.between a Third World country and a First World food market
(3)By comparing tomatoes raised in Britain and in Ghana, the author tries to explain that ________.
A.British tomatoes are healthier than Ghanaian ones
B.Ghanaian tomatoes taste better than tomatoes ones
C.cutting down food miles may not necessarily save fuel
D.protecting the environment may cost a lot of money
(4)From the passage we know that the author is most probably ________.
A.a supporter of free global trade
B.a member of a Food Commission
C.a supporter of First World food markets
D.a member of an energy development group

【題目】閱讀理解
閱讀下列短文,從每題所給的四個選項(A、B、C和D)中,選出最佳選項。
There are many useful suggestions that can help one to improve English. Here are some of them to increase one's English language vocabulary.
Learning English vocabulary is about much more than just learning the right words. It is based on understanding important words and expressions.
Learning a word will not help very much if you quickly forget it. Researches show that it takes from 10 to 20 repetitions(重復) to really make a word part of your vocabulary. Since most words are learned from how they are used in context (上下文), the more words one is shown, the better vocabulary one will have. Keep a piece of paper close to you. When you read, pay close attention to the word you do not know, write the word down and try to understand its meaning from the context. Then look up the word in a dictionary.
Remember that if you do not use English words that you have just learned in conversation or writing, you will forget them very quickly. So the best way to learn new words effectively is just by trying to use them in conversation and writing. Remember also that practice is the key to fluent spoken English.
Building vocabulary is a life-long task. Remember: "In the beginning was the word." Your future could depend on how rich your vocabulary is. It will also determine the quality of your communication.
(1)We can learn from the passage that learning English vocabulary _________.
A.is just about learning the right words
B.is about remembering more and more words
C.doesn't require one to learn expressions

A.To master a word, you need to repeat it 10-20 times.
B.If you remember a word, you are still able to forget it if you don't use it.
C.It doesn't take long to build one's vocabulary.
D.Practice is very important in fluent spoken English.
(3)The best way to learn new words is _________.
A.trying to use them while speaking and writing
B.writing them down over and over again
