61.Many facts suggest that children are overweight and the situation is getting worse, according to the doctors. I feel there are a number of reasons for this.
Some people blame the fact that are surrounded by shops selling unhealthy, fatty foods, such as fried chicken and ice cream, at low prices. This has turned out a whole generation of grown-ups who seldom cook a meal for themselves.
Many universities are providing more financial (財政上的) aid for their students. 62.If there were few of these restaurants, then probably children would buy less take-away food.
There is another argument that blames parents for allowing their children to become overweight. I agree with, because good eating habits begin early in life, long before children start to visit fast food shops.
There is a third reason for this situation. Children these days take very little exercise. They do not walk to school. 63. 他們一回家就是坐在電視機(jī)前或電腦前玩電腦游戲。64. Not only is this an unhealthy pastime(消遣), it also gives them time to eat more unhealthy food. 65.他們所需要的是走出去并進(jìn)行運(yùn)動。 The above are the main reasons for this problem, and therefore we have to encourage young people to be more active, as well as steering them away from fast food shops and bad eating habits.

The Channel is the name given to the stretch of water which separates England and France. Ferries operate all year round to carry people across the Channel, and they are busy most of the year. January is the only quiet month nowadays. As well as summer holiday-makers, there are day trippers and coach traffic, not to mention lorries and other commercial vehicles. Some ferries carry cars and their passengers, while others also connect train passengers with the Continental rail network.
The biggest hazard for the ferry is the wind. The crew listens to BBC weather reports four times a day. Or they sometimes get gale warnings from local radio station.
Crossing the Channel by ferry is a bit like trying to cross Oxford Street on a busy afternoon, according to one ferryboat captain. The ferries from Folkstone and Dover to Calais and Boulogne have to cross the main flow of traffic. This consists of ships traveling through the Channel to and from Northern Europe. There may be four hundred ships making the journey at any one time, and they all pass through a “choke point” which is only fifteen miles (twenty-five kilometers) wide. The cross-channel ferries have to sail right through the middle of all this traffic.
68. The passage is mainly concerned with _____.
A. the English Channel                              B. the weather on the Channel
C. cross-channel ferries                              D. what crossing the Channel by ferry is like
69. The word hazard is closest in meaning to ________.
A. trouble                            B. danger                     C. enemy               D. problem
70. We can infer from the passage that _______.
A. if there is a gale warning from the BBC, the ferries will stop operating.
B. the traffic on the Channel is very busy only in winter
C. ferries are busiest in the afternoon
D. the crew of the ferry listens to the weather reports four times a day
71. Where does this passage most probably appear?
A. In a dictionary.                                     B. In a novel.
C. In a transportation magazine.                  D. In a geography textbook.

When I was a child, I was shocked at the idea that my sisters could be my best friends. Now, I wouldn’t have it any other way. At the time, the idea of my tow sisters being my closest friends seemed strange to me. we fought all the time over toys, food, attention, what to watch on television-you name it, we quarreled about it at some point. How could my sisters be my best friends? They weren’t the same age as I. we all had our own friends in school.
My mother never let the three of us forget that sisters are lifelong friends. Her wish like most parents’ was to give us something that she never had. Growing up as an only child, she longed for siblings. When she gave birth to three daughters, the fulfillment of her dream had only just begun. She had given each of us a gift and she wanted to make sure we did not take that gift for granted. She would frequently tell us how lucky we were. But there were others, more subtle ways that she encouraged us to grow closer. She never showed favoritism to one daughter over the other-skating, shopping, swimming-so we developed common interests. And when we were teenagers, Mom always punished us equally, giving us yet another bonding(結(jié)合的)experience.
We didn’t always get along beautifully and fought just like any other siblings. But somewhere in between Mom’s lectures, the family vacations and the shared memories, we realized that our mother was right. Today I share things with my sisters that I do with no one else. My sister Cindy and I ran the New York City Marathon together, side by side, even holding hands when we crossed the finish lien. When my sister Karen got married, I was her maid of honor. Cindy and I traveled through Europe together and even shared an apartment for two years. The three of us trust each other with our greatest secrets.
It was twenty-three years ago that my mother first asked me who my two best friends were. Today she doesn’t have to. She already knows.
72. As a child, the author was shocked at her mother's idea because________
A. her sisters seemed strange to her
B. her sisters didn't like to be her friends
C. none of the girls had their own friends
D. she and her sisters shares little in common
73. The underline word "siblings" in the second paragraph means________
A. sisters     B. parents    C. daughters   D. friends
74. How did the author's mother encourage her three daughters to grow closer?
A. She punished her daughter differently.
B. She showed equal love to her daughters.
C. She encouraged her daughters to do sports.
D. She often took her daughters to many places.
75.The best title of the passage could be _________.
A. The Greatest Gift          B. Mother's Love
C. Growing Experiences      D. Unforgettable Memories

What would you do if you were lost in the dark forest at night? The first sensible lesson is that you shouldn’t bother trying to find your way in the dark at all, but just stay put until dawn. Because then you won’t trip over things? No, mainly because you’ll have an idea of direction. The sun rises in the east. But you will be amazed at how many people forget they know that. Apparently, the area underneath a holly bush provides a good makeshift shelter — they are thick, and evergreen. The next thing to do — or rather not to do — is panic, for the obvious reason that unless there is someone there to hear you scream, it will get you nowhere. Just try to think of nice, happy things.
There is always a point in films when a person who is lost in the desert or the snow, dehydrated(脫水的) and exhausted, comes across a set of their own footprints and realizes they have just walked in a huge, round circle. It is wrong to owe it to the unequal strengths or different lengths of your legs. Experiments prove that, without the sun or the moon (or landmarks) as a fixed guide, lots of small errors add up over time so the brain can’t correctly identify the “straight ahead” direction. To just get out of somewhere, pick a spot on the horizon and just head for it.
There are several ways to find directions in the dark, and by far the best is to establish north using the stars. Most people can identify the Plough, which is part of Ursa Major. It looks a lot like a saucepan. The Plough rotates through the sky, but let’s imagine the saucepan lying horizontally (水平地), with its handle on the left. You need to trace a line from the star at the right-hand base of the pan, through the star at the right-hand rim (邊沿), and follow it upwards; the north star is roughly five times the distance between those two “pointer” stars. Then drop a vertical line from the North Star to the horizon and that’s north.
“Tonight is very cloudy and I can’t see the Plough.” Maybe luckily, it is quite windy. Keep in mind that almost all of our weather comes from a south-westerly direction. (This only works if you are in the British Isles). To find the direction, you can throw light bits of dried-out grass in the air and see which way they blow; or, if there are clouds and patches of clear sky, see which way they blow across the stars. You can also get an idea of direction from leggy plants. If they look as if they have been blown over, they will probably be pointing north-east. If they are simply leaning in one direction as they grow, there’s a good chance that is south (they will be reaching towards the sun). The last thing to do is to judge your direction and off you go.
68. What might be the best title of the passage ?
A. How to survive in the forest                    B. How to protect yourself in the forest
C. How to direct your way out of the wild               D. What to do if you are lost
69. Which of the following pictures matches the description of the position of the north star?

70. Why will people often walk in a circle if they are lost in the desert or the snow?
A. Because without anything to refer to for directions, the brain will be confused by errors.
B. Because one of the legs is longer and stronger than the other.
C. Because the desert or the snow usually covers a large area for people to get across.
D. Because people usually feel dehydrated and exhausted in the desert or the snow.

It is one of the greatest mysteries of nature. In case you haven’t noticed, all living things follow very definite, individual rhythms, all as regular as a clock, but what makes them regular?
Though many scientists maintain that these rhythms are the result of some outside force like gravity or radiation or both, the results of most scientific researches agree with other scientists who believe that each living thing has its own built-in biological “time clock.”
Take the mystery of migration for example. Scientists can’t really explain why many species of birds migrate in the autumn even though the temperature is still summery. The birds just seem to snub the comfortable weather that they are having. When a certain time comes, they travel south by the thousand. In spring time, they migrate northwards even though there probably is snow still covering the ground when they finally arrive. Something said “go,” and they did.
Animals that hibernate (冬眠) are obeying individual time clocks, too. When their clock indicates the time to take a winter’s nap, they do, and nothing can stop them. At a certain time in the spring, they wake up and come out regardless of the weather outside.
Plants appear to have yearly rhythms, such as the sprouting of seeds, and they also have daily rhythms. Notice sometimes that plants raise their leaves in daylight and lower them at night.
If you live along the California coast, you can easily observe a demonstration of this mysterious clock functioning regularly. There, from February to September, the highest tides occur exactly every fourteen and four-fifths days, and during these high tides, but at no other time, small silvery fish called grunions surf-ride a wave to the beach. There the female deposits her eggs in the sand and the male fertilizes them; then both hitch a wave-ride back to the sea. Exactly fourteen and four-fifths days later, never before or after, the tiny eggs hatch, and the high tide carries the new babies out to sea.
72. According to the passage, the mysterious rhythms result from ______.
A. the influence of gravity on living species
B. the effect of radiation on living species
C. the influence of a mysterious outer force on living species
D. the internal mechanism inside the living species
73. The underlined word “snub” in the third paragraph probably means ______.
A. fight   B. ignore C. symbolize   D. criticize
74. Which of the following statements is NOT TRUE?
A. Hibernating animals are obeying an internal time clock.
B. The positioning of the leaves of some plants is due to the daily rhythms.
C. The internal clock functioning is demonstrated in the reproducing habits of grunions.
D. The yearly hibernation is more because of the weather influence than the biological functioning.
75. The passage is mainly about ______.
A. the rhythms of life
B. the reasons of mysterious hibernation
C. strange behaviors of species
D. the timing for different events in the world of species

第三部分 閱讀理解(共15小題,滿分30分)
閱讀下列短文,從每題所給的四個選項(xiàng)中,選出最佳選項(xiàng),并在答題卡上將該項(xiàng)涂黑。
Scientists have recently discovered that mothers tend to hold their baby on the left. Of 255 right-handed mothers, 83% held the baby on the left. And out of 32 left-handed women, 78% held the baby on the left. As a control, women were watched coming from supermarkets carrying baby-sized bags; the bags were held with no side preference.   Then, dental patients were given a large rubber ball to hold during treatment. The majority held the ball to their left side, even when it interfered with the dentist's activities. This suggested that in times of stress objects are held against the left side.
At that point something clearly contrary was observed. A large number of mothers who brought their premature babies to a clinic were seen to hold their babies against their right side.
So, 115 mothers who had been separated from their babies for 24 hours after birth were observed for holding response. The experimenters presented the baby directly to midline of the mother's body, and noted how she held the baby. 53% placed the baby on the left and 47% on the right. And it was also noted that the mothers of the group who had held their baby on the left had already had a baby from which they had not been separated after birth.
Left-handed holding enables the baby to hear the heartbeat. In order to discover whether hearing the heart has a beneficial effect on the baby, the sound of a human hear-beat was played to102 babies in a New York nursery for 4 days. A control group of babies was not exposed to hear-beats. The babies in the heart-beat group gained more weight and cried far less than the babies in the control group.
56. Scientists found that _____.
A. left-handed women tend to hold their babies on the right
B. more right-handed women than left-handed women tend to hold their babies on the left
C. only right-handed women tend to hold their babies on the correct side
D. women who hold their babies on the left are nearly all right-handed
57. What was "some clearly contrary"?
Mothers of premature babies held their babiesson the correct side.
B. Mothers of premature babies took their babies to a clinic.
C. Mothers of premature babies were seen to hold their babies differently from other mothers.
D. Mothers of premature babies showed no side preference.
58. In one experiment, 102 babies spent four days _____.
A. not exposed to heart-beats
B. in a control group
C. exposed to the sound of heart-beats
D. in a New York heart-beat group
59. The experiments proved that _____.
A. mothers have an instinct to hold their babies on the left immediately after birth
B. mothers hold their babies on the left at times of stress
C. mothers of premature babies do not have the instinct to hold their babies on the left
D. mothers find it more comfortable to carry their babies on the left because the heart is on that side

Many parents find that their children act very mean to their friends. They wonder what they can do about this behavior without squashing their spirit. Here is what parenting experts explain and suggest:
Pre-schoolers have no idea how others feel. They are in the process of understanding their own feelings and have not yet developed “emotional intelligence”. Children of this age also do things just because it can make them feel powerful when they are able to make others respond.
Here are some things you can do to reduce the mean talk: When the child’s in a good mood, look her in the eyes and lovingly tell her how you feel when she speaks in a mean way to another child. Have a look of disappointment on your face and role-play with her to show her the behavior you would like to see. Then, every time you see her demonstrating the “nice” interaction with others, stop what you’re doing, give her eyes contact and make a big deal out of it. Young children need to know what good behavior looks like with regular encouragement. When you catch her being mean to a child, get down on your knees next to her, and, with your arm around her, face the child that is receiving her meanness, and apologize to the child for both of you, then walk away. As soon as the other child is away, let your daughter know how disappointed you are in her behavior and quickly let it go.
Parents should set up a consequence when this negative behavior occurs. You can give these other ideas a try first. If you’re not seeing any results after a few times, then go ahead and set up the consequence(such as not being able to play with that child). Avoid using “time out” because it doesn’t work. It gives the child too much power and too much attention. The most effective consequences are those that are directly tied to the behavior. If she is being mean to children, then the play session ends. And most importantly, set up this consequence in advance when the negative behavior is NOT occurring.
If you should catch her being a “bully” to another child, and she has somehow hurt him or her, immediately put all your attention on the victim, not her. Don’t scold or punish your daughter. Softly, gently, and immediately, nurture the hurt child and get your daughter to assist you in the nurturing. When things have calmed down, let her know face to face how disappointed you are in her behavior, not her as a child.
65. When a child talks mean to his friend, the best way to correct it is to___________.

C. make him apologize to his friend
D. ask his friend not to play with him anymore

68. The passage is mainly about how to___________
