While contact between adolescents (between the ages of fifteen and nineteen) and their peers (同齡人) is a universal characteristic of all cultures, the nature and the degree of such contact vary a great deal. In American contemporary society, adolescents spend much more time with their peers than with younger children or adults.
This pattern of age segregation(隔離) in American society did not become usual until the beginning of the industrialized society. Changes in the workplace separated children from adults, with adults working and children attending school. The dramatic increase of mothers in the workplace has further contributed to the reduction in the amount of time adolescents spend with adults. School reform efforts during the nineteenth century, which resulted in age-segregated schools and grades, have reduced the amount of time adolescents spend with younger children. Finally, the changes in population are considered a factor that may have contributed to the emergence of adolescent peer culture. From 1955 t0 1975, the adolescent population increased dramatically, from 11 percent t0 20.9 percent. This increase in the number of adolescents might be a contributing factor to the increase in adolescent peer culture in terms of growth in size.
Research supports the view that adolescents spend a great deal of time with their peers. Reed Larson and his colleagues examined adolescents' daily activities and found that they spend more time talking to their friends than engaging in any other activity. In a typical week, high school students will spend twice as much time with their peers as with adults. This gradual withdrawal from adults begins in early adolescence. In sixth grade, adults (excluding parents) account for only 25 percent of adolescent social networks. Another important characteristic of  adolescent peer culture is its increasingly autonomous (白治的) function. While childhood peer groups are conducted under the close supervision of parents, adolescent peer groups typically make an effort to escape adult supervision and usually succeed in doing so.

SubliminaI(隱性)advertising happens every day. Shoppers are regularly encouraged to buy by appeals to their senses or unconscious assumptions. I recently carried out a series of research experiments to uncover the ways advertisers use to confuse us to Pull out our wallets. Here are several techniques you should know about.
We fall for "tradition". Some people believe that squeezing a lime(酸橙) into a Corona beer is a time-honored Mexican custom to improve the beer's taste or destroy bacteria(細(xì)菌). The truth? It dates back only t0 1981, when a bartender (酒保) threw a lime into the neck of a Corona to see if he could start a trend. This simple act, which caught on like wildfire, helped Corona become the best -selling imported beer in the U.S. market.
Music makes us buy. Store owners know that playing music with a beat faster than the human heartbeat causes shoppers to shop quickly and therefore buy less. The slower the beat, the more time shoppers will take, and the greater the chances are that they'll buy something.
Shapes have a draw. A large food maker once tested two different containers holding exactly the same. The only difference?  Shapes .When asked which product they preferred, every one selected the first bottle that is narrow around the middle and thicker at the top and on the bottom.
Places help decide. Let's say I offered you a choice of two new cars. They're of the same model, the same color, and they have the same parts. There's only one difference: One is made in  Turkey, and the other in Germany. My guess is that you'd pick the German model, since you associate Germany with superb techniques.

When knowing his son got a C grade in the maths exam, the father was proud and cheerful. This is the tear-jerking moment when a proud father is captured on camera celebrating his son's exam result.
After setting up the hidden camera, the boy calls his father to the kitchen, telling him in a whisper 'I've just got something from school; I need you to come and look at it.' His father, who can be heard shouting from elsewhere in the house, asks 'Has something happened?', to which the naughty teenager, Aria, replies 'Yes! It's really important'. As his nervous-looking father approaches, Aria says 'Come and have a chat with me. Just come in, and read that', he says while passing over a piece of paper displaying the result.
After seeing his son has achieved a C grade in the maths exam, the man asks 'Is that veracious?,' before bursting into tears of joy. The pair hug before the disbelieving dad asks again, 'Are you sure? They've not made a mistake? I can't believe it; I just can't believe it!'
A mere year before the video was filmed, the schoolboy received an F in the subject. He explained,'In England you need a C to basically do anything with your life. I've never been amazing academically and have struggled through school. Neither me or my dad or my teachers thought I was going to get my C, for me it was tough. When I told my Dad who means the world to me this was his reaction...Enjoy'.

Though I don’t have much money, I always try to think positively. However, sometimes, I also feel depressed and sad when I think how others have more than me, so I hate thinking about money. When I was younger, I always wondered why money was so important. But as I get older, of course that changes.
Last night, on my way home I stopped by to buy some hamburgers at a fast food restaurant. On my way in, a homeless man came over and asked, “Do you have any bottles lying around?” I knew he would recycle them for a few cents, but I had none. And again he asked, “Can you spare some change?” I smiled and said, “Sorry, I don’t.” He was respectful, saying, “OK, thank you.” Though he didn’t have anything, he was still in good spirits.
I went in and ate my meal, but I wondered if he was hungry, thinking if I should buy him something or not. Only after I finished my meal did I decide to order another one for him. At this point I didn't know if he was still around, but I tried anyway. At the counter I ordered a hamburger and also a hot chocolate, for it was cold outside. As I waited, I noticed the homeless man standing beside me with a tray(盤子)full of a few coins. I looked at him and smiled, “The hamburger and this hot chocolate are for you.” He replied like a gentleman, “Thank you. That’s very kind of you.”

My grandma whom we all called Nanny was a solid, first-generation, Italian immigrant. She came to this country with her family on a tiny ship during World War I when she was only 8 years old. During the trip she survived stormy seas, little food, and an attack by a German U-boat. After getting here, her large family worked hard to build a new life in America. They neverhad much money but were rich in love.
One day, when I was about 5 or 6 years old, my parents and brothers went on a trip. It was just me and Nanny in the house for the weekend. Nanny seemed so happy to be taking care of me all by herself. She made me a special breakfast that first morning. However, all I could do was to complain about how the food was not how Mom always made it. Nanny quietly put down the plate and went into the living room. I followed a minute later and saw that she had tears in her eyes. It was the first time I had ever seen my strong and proud grandmother cry and I was the one who had caused it
I walked over to Nanny, climbed on her lap, and for the first time in my short life I did something else too. I apologized without being told to and asked Nanny to forgive me. She smiled, rubbed my head, and told me I was a good boy even though I didn't feel like one then. That memory just like my Nanny's love will stay in my heart forever. It is a sign of both strength and wisdom. Asking for forgiveness helps us to learn, to grow, and to love.

[1]When children go to camp, they are on their own, sometimes for the very first time in their lives. They have to decide what to wear , what to eat and which activities to participate in . As a result they develop confidence and independence.
[2]As self-respect develops from learning to be on their own, children continues to try new activities . Also it is possible that they will engage in what they are unfamiliar with. In school, children do not experience success in the same way. Camp can be a school without failure because just having fun makes them a success.
[3] One of the greatest benefits of a camp experience is that children develop social skills. In camp setting, a good counselor(顧問) will make sure that every camper is included in the activity and that each child interacts with the others in a positive way. They learn to give and take, and they learn how to work and cooperate, Something as simple as clean-up , is not only there to get the cabin clean, but to promote a team atmosphere of working sogether which in turn results in friendship.
[4] The obvious benefit of camp is that campers make long lasting friendships .These friendships can often be unique and special because campers are living with each other and see the true personalities. Children learn to see others from a different viewpoint. Children tend to be accepted for who they are and do not have to be concerned about what they wear, what they are good at and how they look.
