10．Post-holiday blood shortages are nothing new to hospitals．But last week，physician James Devitt at Miami Valley Hospital saw disaster appearing．For the first time ever，he called-surgeons at home and urged them to postpone all nonemergency surgeries requiring large amounts of blood．By the time he finished dialing，Devitt had persuaded surgeons to reschedule at least 14operations．Not that he was pleased by the delays．"If we don't get some of these surgeries done soon，"Devitt says，"they could become emergencies．"
Miami Valley Hospital wasn't alone．Facing a national blood shortage，physicians in Atlanta，Pittsburgh，New York，Baltimore，and Washington moved to postpone nonemergency surgeries．"We've never seen cancellations of surgeries like this，"says Melissa Macmilian，spokesperson for America's Blood Centers （ ABC ）．"It's absolutely the last way．"
The blood shortage was so worrying that about half of all U．S．blood banks carried less than a one-day supply．Normally，they store three days'worth．Suppliers need the extra red cells on hand for emergencies like car accidents-one severely injured patient can quickly wipe out a hospital's entire blood supply．

Signs of drug abuse and misuse

Although anxiety，tiredness and a change in sleeping habits can be signs of drug use，they can also be caused by changes in your body，stress or other problems．
Drugs are categorized into three classes based on their overall level of harm．Class A drugs are the most dangerous，however，all the drugs in all three classes are harmful and addictive．
Remember that all drugs are illegal，even Class C drugs like cannabis（大麻煙）．If you're caught selling them to other people，or carrying a small amount in your pocket，it's likely that the police will get involved．
