Lisa, a middle-aged woman, went to prepare lunch, leaving her 3-year-old son, Barney, playing by himself in the backyard.

All of a sudden, a sharp cry of Barney came into the mother's ears, and Lisa rushed into the backyard and found a big snake entwining(糾纏) the little child with its body and trying to swallow the boy. Lisa was terrified and quite angry. She made up her mind to save her son from the snake's mouth.

It was a fearless mother's love that made Lisa forget what she faced. She took up an old hatchet (斧頭)from the ground and struck the snake with all her strength.

One...two... With the hatchet, Lisa hit the snake again and again, but she felt as if she were striking a mass of solid(堅(jiān)固的) rubber. The little boy's voice and breath were getting weaker and weaker. Lisa's heart was broken and she nearly went mad.

Suddenly Lisa put aside the hatchet and threw herself on to the snake, opened her mouth and bit into its back, as if tearing a tough steak(牛排). Lisa was really mad.

A small piece of flesh was bitten off. Lisa picked up the hatchet again and hit at the wound in the snake's back madly and savagely.

Stinking blood was spraying out of the snake's body. The snake was so badly wounded that it let go of Barney and moved back into the forest. It had never imagined that human beings had such terrible, sharp teeth. Halfway home, the snake died.

10.PE can be the class that you fear the most.It holds a variety of activities for different types of students.You have those who think they are too cool to participate,those who don't do anything,and there's always that one kid who fakes numerous (無數(shù)的) notes so he can be excused from class.
Throughout my years of PE,I learned some easy tricks to survive this terrible nightmare.For example,I hate dodgeball (躲避球).Since my PE teacher gives points for participation,I would mostly decide to kick or try to catch the ball when he's looking in my direction.Otherwise,you would find me in the back,hiding behind a group of students.This method works for any sport-just blend in (加入) with a group of students who regularly participate.You know what they say:Fake it till you make it.
When it's time for those terrible exercise tests,I do my best because I don't want to end up getting a bad grade,especially in PE.I motivate (激勵(lì)) myself during these tests by telling myself that exercise is good for me.Since I don't work out outside of school,it's basically the only effort I make to keep fit.
Usually gym class is about 40minutes long.I've learned that no one in this class really pays attention to what others are doing.If you get hit in the face with a ball,just laugh it off.People will forget about it once class is over,and I'm sure there will be other news out there that'll draw the attention away from you.
You have to be brave,even if the PE uniforms are the most disgusting pieces of clothing that have ever touched your body.Find yourself a group of students that you can easily become friends with.They could motivate you to do better.Also,remember that you're taking this class for the sake of (為了) your grades.So try,or act like you are trying.

63.What was the author's main purpose in writing the article?B
A.To state the importance of going to PE class.
B.To share with the reader the methods she uses to survive PE class.
C.To share some of her terrible experiences in PE class.
D.To tell the reader how she motivates herself to participate in PE class.
64.When dodgeball is played in PE class,the author is likely toC.
A.make up an excuse and skip the class
B.force herself to practice as often as she can
C.hide and avoid catching the teacher's attention
D.kick or try to catch the ball in order to make herself noticed
65.What can be concluded from the article?C
A.The more you take part in PE class,the more you will enjoy sports.
B.Those who get hit in the face with a ball in PE class won't get any attention.
C.Even though she doesn't like PE much,the author still motivates herself to do better.
D.Since she doesn't work out regularly,the author often does poorly in exercise tests.

With the development of people’s living condition, more and more people possess their own cars. Some of us think it is good to own a car. For instance, it’s convenient, fast and comfortable means of transportation. Moreover, it shows that people are becoming richer and the country is much more stronger. It also made relative businesses and industries develop faster.

However, others have different opinions, thinking that cars give up waste gasses and pollute the environment around. Too much cars will have some bad effects, such as more accidents and crowdedness. Besides, lack parking lots is another big problem.

As far as I’m concerned, we ought to think careful before buying cars. As if we have cars, we may use it less.

On May 23, 1989, Stefania Follini came out from a cave at Carlsbad, New Mexico. She hadn’t seen the sun for eighteen and a half weeks. Stefania was in a research program, and the scientists in the program were studying body rhythms. In this experiment Stefania had spent 130days in a cave, 30 feet in depth.

During her time in the cave, Stefania had been completely alone except for two white mice. Her living place had been very comfortable, but there had been nothing to tell her the time. She’d had no clocks or watches, no television or radio. There had been no natural light and the temperature had always been kept at 21℃.

The results were very interesting. Stefania had been in the cave for over four months, but she thought she had been there for only two. Her body clock had changed. She hadn’t kept to a 24-hour day, she had stayed awake for 20~25 hours and then had slept for 10 hours. She had eaten fewer meals and had lost 171bs in weight as a result! She had also become rather depressed.

How had she spent her time in the cave? As part of the experiment she’d done some physical and mental tests. She’d recorded her daily activities and the results of the tests on a computer. This computer had been specially programmed for the project. Whenever she was free, she’d played cards, read books and listened to music. She’d also learned French from tapes.

The experiment showed that our body clocks are affected by light and temperature. For example, the pattern of day and night makes us wake up and go to sleep. However, people are affected in different ways. Some people wake up naturally at 5:00 a.m., but others don’t start to wake up till 9:00 or 10:00 a.m. This affects the whole daily rhythm. As a result the early risers are at their best in the late morning. The late risers, on the other hand, are tired during the day and only come to life in the afternoon or evening!

1.Stefania stayed in the cave for a long time because ________.

A. she was asked to do research on mice

B. she wanted to experience loneliness

C. she was the subject of a study

D. she needed to record her life

2.What is a cause for the change of Stefania’s body clock?

A. Eating fewer meals. B. Having more hours of sheep.

C. Lacking physical exercise. D. Getting no natural light.

3.This passage mainly tells about ________.

A. an experiment and its result B. a woman living in the cave

C. a depressed woman D. a woman and two mice

Besides the confusing things on classroom walls,teaching methods and curriculums have changed recently,by which more time is spent on what's called"seat work"一workbooks and worksheets-but less time devoted to music and art.School-readiness skills are essential for the youngest learners to move on to a subsequent stage.As a result,expectations that may arguably have been reasonable for 5-and 6-year-olds,such as bemg able to sit at a desk and using pencil and paper,are now directed at even younger children,who lack the motor skills and attention span to be successful.
However, parents of preschoolers tend to be on board with these changes,because they fear that the old-fashioned pleasures of unhurried learning have no place in today's highly competitive world.The stress is obvious:Pick the"wrong"preschool and your child might not go to college.She might not be employable.She might not even be allowed to start first grade!

C.More time should be spent on"seat work''instead of music and art.
D.Even 5-and 6-year-olds have good motor skills and attention span.
