Five Steps to Better Handwriting

Some kids love handwriting, but others hate when it’s time to put their pen to paper. Maybe they are worried about their handwriting. Are you one of them? 【1】 Here are five steps that really work!

Get a great grasp

Try this—hold your pencil at the top and try to write your name. Pretty hard? But when you hold your pencil the correct way, writing is much easier. 2Hold it in place with your thumb, and your index(食指) and middle fingers.

Let the lines be your guide

Lined paper is your friend! Those lines can help you create letters that are the right size and proportion(均衡).3 Also be sure to fill up the lined space completely. Those capital letters should be from the bottom line to the top one.

Slow down

If your writing is hard to read, try slowing down a little. If you rush, it’s hard to control where you stop and start your letters.

Lower the pressure

4 That makes it harder to make the smooth lines. Try easing up and don’t hold the pencil too tightly.

5

Lots of games require you to write or draw pictures. So even though it’s not schoolwork, you’re still using the skills you need to control your pen better.

A. Play games.

B. Ask for more advice.

C. So “a” should be half the height of a capital “A”.

D. You’ve been writing since you were a little kid.

E. Some kids press down really hard when they write.

F. The good news is that just about everyone can improve their handwriting.

G. The best way to hold a pen or pencil is to let it rest next to the base of your thumb.

【題目】B

It’s that time of year when people need to lock their cars. It’s not because there’re lots of criminals stealing cars. Rather, it’s because of good-hearted neighbors who want to share their harvest. Especially with this year’s large crop, leaving a car unlocked in my neighborhood is an invitation for someone to stuff it with zucchini(西葫蘆).

My sister, Sharon, recently had a good year of tomatoes. She and her family had eaten and canned so many that they begun to feel their skin turn slightly red. She decided to share her blessings. She called everyone she knew. When that failed, she began asking everyone in the neighborhood, eventually finding a neighbor delighted to have the tomatoes. “Feel free to take whatever you want,” Sharon told her. She felt happy that she could help someone and that the food didn’t go to waste.

A few days later, the neighbor appeared in her house, holding a hot loaf of bread. She smiled,” I wanted to thank you for the tomatoes, and I have to admit I took a few other things too.”

Sharon couldn’t think of anything else that had been worth harvesting and said so,” Oh, but you did,” the neighbor said. “You had some of the prettiest zucchini I’ve ever seen.”

Sharon was confused. They hadn’t even planted any zucchini. But her neighbor insisted there were bright-green zucchini in her garden. Sharon decided to go to see where the zucchini had grown. The two of them walked t into the backyard. When the neighbor pointed at the long green vegetables, Sharon smiled,” Well, actually, those are cucumbers that we never harvested, because they got too big, soft and bitter for eating.”

The neighbor looked at Sharon, shock written all over her face. Then, smiling, she held out the bread she had shared all over the neighborhood. “I brought you a nice loaf of cucumber bread. I hope you will like it.”

【1What does the underlined word “stuff” in Paragraph 1 probably mean?

D. They felt embarrassed by not sharing tomatoes with their neighbors.

【4】From the text, we can infer that the neighbor____.

A. liked eating bread made of cucumbers

BEIJING Rising smartphone star Xiaomi is moving up market and taking aim at Apple's iPhone. The Chinese maker known for low-priced phones on Thursday unveiled (發(fā)布) a new model that Chairman Jun Lei said is comparable to Apple's iPhone 6 but thinner, lighter and much cheaper. The phone starts at 4, 499 yuan ($575), less than half the 5,488 yuan ($ 865) price of an iPhone 6 in China.

Xiaomi, founded in 4010, passed South Korea's Samsung Electronics Co. in the second quarter of last year as the best-selling smartphone brand in China by number of phones sold. The company is expanding into India and other developing markets but has yet to announce plans to enter the United States or Europe.

Xiaomi “is a respected brand that already has an Apple-like following” in China, said analyst Brian Blair, who tracks mobile device makers at Rosenblatt Securities. Apple is still a relatively small player in China, selling about 45 million iPhones there last year, Blair estimates, but will continue to grow.

“Apple is very much a premium (高端的) brand,” said Blair. “The company that's more at risk is Samsung, which has been losing share in that market.”

Privately held (私人控股的) Xiaomi said last year's sales tripled to 61. 1 million phones and revenue (收益) more than doubled to 74. 5 billion yuan ($14.4 billion). The company, based in Beijing, recently completed a round of fundraising from investors that it said valued Xiaomi at $ 45 billion, making it one of the world's most valuable technology brands.

Xiaomi ran into legal trouble in India in December after a court blocked sales while it hears a complaint by Sweden's LM Ericcson that the Chinese company violated its patents(專利).

In a blog post earlier this month, Lei called the case a “rite of passage” (成年禮) for a young company.

【1】 Which of the following statements is true?

A. Xiaomi sold more cellphones than Samsung in 4010 in China.

B. Compared to Xiaomi, Apple's iPhone 6 is thinner and lighter.

C. Low-price is Xiaomi's advantage over Apple's iPhones.

D. The company is expanding into the United States or Europe.

【2】 What can be inferred from the passage according to Brian Blair?

A. More than 45 million iPhones will be sold this year.

B. Xiaomi can beat Apple in the market of China.

C. He thinks Xiaomi is superior to Apple.

D. Samsung will be closed for losing share in the market.

【3】 How is the 5th paragraph developed?

A. By giving examples.

B. By analyzing cause and effect.

C. By providing data.

D. By making comparisons.

【4】What's the attitude of Jun Lei towards the case of Xiaomi in India?

A. Negative.

B. Satisfied.

C. Positive.

D. Doubtful.
