20.When something goes wrong,it can be very easy to say,"I know I'm late,but it's not my fault;the car broke down"and so on.It is probably not your fault, but once you develop the habit of blaming somebody or something else for a bad situation, you are a loser. You have no power and could not change the situation. However, you can have great power over what happens to you if you stop focusing on whom to blame.And start focusing on how to remedy the situation.This is the winner's key to success.
Winners are great at overcoming problems. For example,if you were late because your car broke down, maybe you need to have your car examined more regularly. For another example,if your colleague(同事)causes you problems on the job for lack of responsibility, find ways of dealing with his irresponsibility rather than simply blame the person. You should find creative ways to work successfully instead of blaming your colleague.
This is what being a winner is all about---creatively using your skills and talents(才華)so that you are successful no matter what happens.Winners don't have fewer problems in their lives;they have just as many difficult situations to face as anybody else. They are just better at seeing those problems as challenges(挑戰(zhàn))and opportunities to develop their talents.
So,stop focusing on"Whose fault it is".Once you are confident about your power over bad situations, problems are just something on the road to your success.

Jimmy is an automotive mechanic, but he lost his job a few months ago. He has good heart, but always feared applying for a new job.

One day, he gathered up all his strength and decided to attend a job interview. His appointment was at 10 am and it was already 8:30. While waiting for a bus to the office where he was supposed to be interviewed, he saw an elderly man wildly kicking the tyre of his car. Obviously there was something wrong with the car. Jimmy immediately went up to lend him a hand. When Jimmy finished working on the car, the old man asked him how much he should pay for the service. Jimmy said there was no need to pay him; he just helped someone in need, and he had to rush for an interview. Then the old man said, “Well, I could take you to the office for your interview. It’s the least I could do. Please. I insist.” Jimmy agreed.

Upon arrival, Jimmy found a long line of applicants waiting to be interviewed. Jimmy still had some grease on him after the car repair, but he did not have much time to wash it off or have a change of shirt. One by one, the applicants left the interviewer’s office with disappointed look on their faces. Finally his name was called. The interviewer was sitting on a large chair facing the office window. Rocking the chair back and forth, he asked, “Do you really need to be interviewed?” Jimmy’s heart sank. “With the way I look now, how could I possibly pass this interview?” he thought to himself.

Then the interviewer turned the chair and to Jimmy’s surprise, it was the old man he helped earlier in the morning. It turned out he was the General Manager of the company.

“Sorry I had to keep you waiting, but I was pretty sure I made the right decision to have you as part of our workforce before you even stepped into the office. I just know you’d be a trustworthy worker. Congratulations!” Jimmy sat down and they shared a cup of well-deserved coffee as he landed himself a new job.

6.As a child,I loved the natural world.Maybe it had something to do with growing up in a small town.Maybe it was because nature had so many secrets and I was thrilled to be a detective, uncovering them one by one.
I'm sure that when people from my generation think back to their childhoods, many recall a tree house, family picnics,or a passion for fishing, hunting,or horseback riding. Most of us had an occasional appetite for dirt as we explored backyards and nearby vacant lots.As someone who grew up in such a world,I enthusiastically encourage parents to bring back that happy childhood pastime of letting kids get muddy once in a while.
I have more than my own experience to show as evidence that this is a good thing:Study after study indicates that children grow up healthier and happier when they experience a direct connection to nature.Just as importantly, those young people are also far more likely to value the natural world when they've developed a connection to it.The need for thishas never been greater than it is today.
Our natural world is extraordinary in its diversity and complexity, but it's also under tremendous threat. In the past decade, countless tropical rainforests and coral reefs have been lost forever due to human activities, and many more are critically endangered. These areas don't just house animals and plants found nowhere else on the planet; they also provide important economic services that benefit human health.Streams make fresh water clean; forests reduce flooding; tree provide medicines and insects pollinate (給…授粉) crops. The natural world represents an economic backbone for the future of local communities by promoting tourism and local people's livelihoods.
The damage to the earth's living systems is fast approaching irreversible (不可逆轉(zhuǎn)的)"tipping points,"and although we now have a wealth of technological tools-both to understand the threats and to assist with solutions-there's still no substitute for a connection to the real world when it comes to understanding the complexity of natural systems.
Besides, establishing a connection between child and nature is one of the best and simplest ways to inspire young people to make good decisions about personal health, climate change, and sustainable (可持續(xù)的) use of natural resources. They need to know what affects the chemistry of the ocean, why tropical rain forests are critical to life in the temperate regions and how millions of years are required to create fossil oil from dead plants. This understanding becomes realest and most meaningful when a person is connected to the natural world.

46.What does the underlined word"this"in Paragraph 3 refer to?C
A.Children developing a connection to the nature.
B.Children growing up healthily and happily.
C.Children valuing the natural world.
D.Children studying and studying.

A.humans benefit from nature
B.humans benefit nature in many ways
C.some insects are dangerous to humans
D.some insects are in danger of extinction
48.What can we learn from Paragraph 5?D
A.It is impossible to improve the environment.
B.Natural systems are too complex to understand.
C.Technology can help humans improve the environment.
D.Kids cannot know about the nature without experiencing it.
49.The author writes the passage mainly toD.
A.describe her childhood to the readers
B.encourage readers to protect the nature
C.stress the importance of natural science
D.a(chǎn)dvise parents to let kids experience nature.

Some new parents are often in a rush to get rid of their pets when a baby is expected.Yet,studies have shown that having a pet at home actually reduces a child's likelihood of developing certain kinds of diseases.In one study,a researcher studied 300new-born babies and tested them again a year later.He found that if they had a dog at home the children had up to 33% fewer allergies (過(guò)敏癥).In addition,the children had stronger immune systems (免疫系統(tǒng)) when compared to the babies of homes with no pets.
In another study,researchers tested nearly 4,500people.They found that cat owners who spent time stroking (撫摸) their cats suffered 40% fewer heart attacks than those who did not own a cat.Some other studies also found that pet owners suffered less serious from depression (沮喪) than non-pet owners.
Horses have long been used in treatments for disabled people,both physically and mentally.Not only does the movement of the horse help people with physical problems,but the calming influence of the animals has a positive effect on them,too.Amazing changes have been noted in disabled people who are lucky enough to receive these treatments.
From cats to horses, having a pet can really have positive effects on our health.

3.Indoor Plants
As with any house guests,indoor plants require a certain amount of basic,regular attention if they are going to feel at home.The first consideration when purchasing plants is to make reasonably sure that they are suitable for the condition in which they are going to be housed.
A general rule for most plans being brought indoors for the first time is to ensure that they have reasonable temperature of not less than 60degrees Fahrenheit,a position out of cold air,safe from pets and not exposed to strong sunlight.
Plants love company.When plants are growing together,they create an atmosphere of damp around themselves which is far more beneficial than hot dry conditions.A group of plants will also present a more pleasing picture and provide an opportunity for a creative arrangement.There is no secret to this.Just rely on your natural feeling for harmony.
Watering and feeding plants are probably the two areas of care that are the least well understood,but,again,if you follow a few simple rules,your plants should do well.Cold Slightly warm water is therefore the answer.It is usually better to pour water on to the soil on the surface of the pot rather than put the water into the pot holder at the bottom.Avoid giving small amount of water at regular intervals-it is much better to wet the soil right hrough the pot in one go and then to allow it to dry noticeably before giving it a further watering.
The majority of indoor plants will be in active growth from March until October,and during this time,the established ones will benefit from regular feeding.This may mean feeding with a weak liquid fertilizer(肥料) at each watering or at intervals of a week or ten days with fertilizer at a standard strength.It is important,however,to ensure that plants are not fed when growth is inactive,when the soil in the pot is dry,or too soon after the plants has been potted up.
63.In Paragraph 2,the author mainly tells us toD.
A.but plants that help clean indoor air
B.create a new environment with plants
C.put plants on the sunny side of the room
D.make sure of suitable conditions for plants
64.What's the benefit of plants growing together?B
A.It provides owners good company.
B.It helps the air around them slightly wet.
C.It makes it convenient to look after them.
D.It allows owners to draw a pleasant picture.
65.While watering the plants,what should we remember to do?A
A.Use water that is a little warm.
B.Pour the water into the pot holder.
C.Give small amount of water at one time.
D.Consider further wateringin dry weather.
66.What is the best time to feed the plants?B
A.When the soil is dry.
B.When their growth is active.
C.When the temperature is high.
D.When they have just been planted.
