第三部分閱讀理解(共20小題;每小題2分,滿分40分)
閱讀下列短文,從每題所給的四個(gè)選項(xiàng)(A、B、C和D)中,選出最佳選項(xiàng)。
Many people will remember the flight of the space shuttle(航天飛機(jī))challenger,in June,1983. The achievement of Sally Ride,America’s first woman astronaut to fly into space, made this flight especially memorable. Students from two Camden, New Jersey, high schools, however, are probably to remember Norma rather than Sally whenever they think about the flight.
Norma didn’t travel alone. She brought about 100 companions along with her. Norma was an ant,a queen ant who, with her subject, made up the first ant colony(群體)to travel into space. The ants were part of a science experiment designed by students to test the effects of weightlessness on insects.
The equipment designed by the students for their colony functioned perfectly throughout the long space trip. The young scientists and their teachers were very sad to find that their insect astronauts had all died at some point before the container was returned to the school and opened. The problem didn’t occur in space, but on the ground after challenger had landed. The container remained in the desert for nearly a week before the ant colony was moved. The hot,dry desert air dried out the colony’s container and the ants died from lack of moisture(水分).
The project was termed success because it did provide useful information. Students will continue their efforts to pinpoint(精確找到)what went wrong. They will try to prevent the same difficulties from reoccurring on future missions. They don’t want to be discouraged either by the demise of the ants or by the $ 10,000 shuttle fare they will have to pay to send the next colony of ants into space.
51.What does the passage mainly tell us?
A.Sally Ride,America’s first woman astronaut.
B.How to keep ants alive in space.
C.How to make equipment for insects in space.
D.An experiment with ants in space.
52.According to the passage, we know that the underlined word“demise”is another word for“_____”.
A.death B.colony
C.insect D.moisture
53.We don’t think the project was a failure. This is because_____.
A.everything went as smoothly as expected
B.the students had pinpointed exactly the reason
C.something important had been learned
D.the students had succeeded in the experiment
54.We can conclude that ants _____ on the next space trip.
A.will have to be kept alive in a container full of water
B.will have to be sent into space with the first woman astronaut
C.should be put into a container where there is enough food
D.should be put into a container which is not too dry

When I was young, I wished for a good car and a big house. That was my idea of success. I took all the advanced classes and tried to do well in the exams with my mind set on going to a key school. I just knew that I would somehow become famous and be able to afford the car and the dream house. All the way through junior years, my mind was planning this beautiful future.
Then in the eleventh grade, many losses changed my mind. First, one of my friends died at 16. Soon after, my great-grandmother passed away, followed by my beloved fourth-grade teacher. These events left me not knowing what to do or where to go . Death had never touched me so closely.
After a long period of emptiness, it finally struck me: Life is not promised and neither is future success. Though I was attempting to achieve material success, I was not enjoying my daily life. I realized that finding inner peace, purpose and happiness will stick with me forever and that is real success.
Enjoying life's precious quirks ( 偶發(fā)事件 ) makes an ordinary person more successful than a wealthy person who isn't content and takes everything for granted. The summer before senior years, my attitude changed greatly. Instead of memorizing facts, I began learning skills. Instead of focusing on the future, I focused on today and the many blessings and successes that came with it.
I still get excellent grades, but now I devote weeks to studying instead of struggling for exams, and I think about the future with a deeper sense of meaning. For me, being successful means truly living life each day.

“First we make our habits, then our habits make us.”——Charles C.Noble
It’s such a simple concept, yet it's something we don’t always do. It’s not extremely difficult to do, and yet I think it’s something that would make a world of difference in anyone’s life. Break your goals into habits, and focus on putting those habits into autopilot. My belief is that having one goal to focus on is much more powerful than having many goals.
I try to turn my goals into habits, and in doing so,I put my goals on autopilot. Turning a goal into a habit means really focusing on it,seriously, for at least a month,to the exclusion of all else. The more you can focus on it, the more it’ll be put on autopilot. Let’s look at my marathon goal as an example. I was just starting out in running, and l had the brilliant idea to run a marathon within a year. But in order to achieve that goal,I broke it down into two habits:
1.I had to make running a daily habit.
2.I had to report to people in order to have accountability(責(zé)任)—I did this through family, friends and coworkers, through a blog, and through a column in my local newspaper every two weeks. With this accountability, there’s no way l would stop running.
The accountability habit took a couple of months, mainly because I didn’t focus on it too much while l was building the running habit. But it stuck, and for that first year of running,I would report to people I knew and blog about my running every day and I would write a column every two weeks for my local paper.
Once those two habits were firmly fixed,my marathon goal was pretty much on autopilot. I still had to do the work,of course, but it didn’t require constant focus. And eventually,I ran the marathon. I was able to achieve this because, all year long,I had the daily running habit and daily accountability habit. I put my marathon goal into autopilot, and that made it much easier--instead of struggling with it daily for an entire year,I focused on it for one month and was able to accomplish it while focusing on new habits and goals.
55.According to the passage,we can see the key to forming a habit is ______________.

D.to focus on the habit as much as possible

A.He was a local athlete.

A.goals and habits
B.how to turn your goals into habits

“Lately, I have been feeling very stressed and easily lose my temper at people around me,” said Susan Huang. Her troubles are typical of someone her age, according to a survey by the Chinese Academy of Science’s Psychology Institute. In 2000, the institute’s researchers began surveying close to 8,000 people nationwide. People were studied in relation to the pressures they felt during periods of transition.
The results of the survey were released last week, and they make for the interesting reading. For example, people used to take for granted that the older they were, the more pressure they felt.
But, surprisingly, the results have shown that young people in their twenties are the most stressed. This is because young people are forming their values at a time when Chinese society is undergoing great changes, explained Chen Long, a member of the survey team.
“Society is changing and neither their parents nor their teachers can teach them enough to know how to cope with it,” Chen said. Some of them get anxious from the overwhelming amount of information in the wired world, Chen added.
Another problem is that the economic reforms have forced people to develop a more competitive attitude. Those surveyors said they felt more pressure from heavier work-loads, increased peer competition, and greater responsibilities.
Medical disputes and business activities increasingly find their way into people’s free time and simply add to their stress, the survey showed.
Then there is the pressure to achieve more also weighing heavily on people. This is particularly true for those with higher education. Those people really want to acquire new knowledge and use their ability to get ahead and get more out of society.
The researchers hope their survey will throw some light on the state of mental health among the Chinese during this period of major economic and political reforms.
61.Which of the following is one of the reasons for the pressures people felt?
A.people are forming their values.
B.Chinese society is not undergoing a period of transition.
C.The economic reforms have forced young people to develop a more competitive attitude.
D.People with higher education really want to achieve more.
62.What does the underlined word “they” refer to?
A.People getting stressed.               B.The results of the survey.
C.Periods of transition.                 D.The researchers.
63.According to Huang, people with pressure are likely to ____.
A.form their values                    B.a(chǎn)chieve more out of society
C.lose their temper                    D.make for interesting reading
64.The purpose of the author in writing this article is to ____.
A.share the state of people with pressure
B.tell us how to deal better with pressure
C.a(chǎn)dvise people to develop an active attitude to life
D.a(chǎn)ttract more attention to people’s mental health
