【答案】Dear Tom,

I am very sorry to tell you that I can’t go to the cinema with you tonight. My uncle telephoned me just now. He told me he was passing our city on a business trip and wanted to pay a visit to us, so I have to meet him at the railway station. I wonder if we can see the film tomorrow. If you are free then we will meet together at 7:00 p.m. at the gate of the cinema. If this change is not convenient to you, it is better for you to inform me of it so that we can set some other time for the movie.

Best wishes

Yours

Li Hua

范文亮點】:

本篇書面表達要點全面,結(jié)構緊湊,語言風格符合書信的文體要求,是一篇較好的范文。“I am very sorry to tell you that I can’t go to the cinema with you tonight.”本句使用了that引導的定語從句。“ If you are free then we will meet together at 7:00 p.m. at the gate of the cinema.”本句使用了對將來的虛擬語句。“it is better for you to inform me of it so that we can set some other time for the movie.”

When I was six, Dad brought home a dog one day, who was called “Brownie”. My brothers and I all loved Brownie and did different things with her. One of us would walk her, another would feed her, then there were baths, playing catch and many other games. Brownie, in return, loved each and every one of us. One thing that most touched my heart was that she would go to whoever was sick and just be with them. We always felt better when she was around.
One day, as I was getting her food, she chewed up(咬破)one of Dad's shoes, which had to be thrown away in the end. I knew Dad would be mad and I had to let her know what she did was wrong. When I looked at her and said, “Bad girl,” she looked down at the ground and then went and hid. I saw a tear in her eyes.
Brownie turned out to be more than just our family pet. She went everywhere with us. People would stop and ask if they could pat her. Of course she'd let anyone pat her. She was just the most lovable dog. There were many times when we'd be out walking and a small child would come over and pull on her hair. she never barked(吠) or tried to get away. Funny thing is that she would smile. This frightened people because they thought she was showing her teeth. Far from the truth, she loved everyone.
Now many years have passed since Brownie died of old age. I still miss days when she was with us.

To me, inspirations mean to put my thoughts, heart, and creations into my jewelry. Sometimes I become so inspired with what I'm working on that I can finish one or more sets in less than an hour. Because of that feeling, I have named my jewelry collection “Inspirations”.
I am a 17-year-old student with sickle-cell anemia. With this, I am in and out of the hospital a lot. So I started making jewelry a year ago when I was in the hospital. I really needed something to do, so I was introduced to jewelry making by a child life expert.
One day while lying in my hospital bed, I decided to get up and go to the patient's playroom ,and look through the craft designs. That was when I became inspired to design my jewelry collection, and named it “Inspirations”.
When I'm not sick, I try to keep a positive attitude through reading, schoolwork and craft activities. Even though there is a lot of work, I try to stay focused all the time. When I need a break or just to be free I turn to my craft activities. This is a way to ease my mind and it always helps me to especially get through those stressful times.
I am getting very excited about graduating next year and preparing myself for college. Who knows my collection of “Inspirations” would take me to the places I always dreamed of? I may see celebrities I admire and even sell them some of my beautiful “Inspirations”. If they wear my “Inspirations”, it will be well known and in great demand. What a great way to make some extra money for college! I never thought being sick would bring me “Inspirations”. I want people to look beyond my illness and see the creations I've made in my collection called “Inspirations”.

【題目】根據(jù)短文理解,選擇正確答案。
In 1880, fourteen-year-old Matthew Henson loved to hear sailors tell tales of their exciting lives at sea. The travel, the adventure, the danger, and the steady pay were all attracting young Henson. One day, he found a job as a cabin boy on a beautiful ship called the Katie Hinds. For the next five years, Henson sailed around the world. With the help of the ship's captain and other members of the crew, Henson learned mathematics, navigation, history, geography, and many other subjects. By the time he left the Katie Hinds in 1885, Henson was well educated and had become an excellent seaman.
Unable to find work anywhere else, Henson took a job in a hat shop in Washington, D.C. One day in 1887, a man came in to buy a hat. The man, Robert Peary, asked the owner if he knew anyone with experience at sea. Peary would soon travel to South America for the U.S. government. He needed experienced men to accompany him. The shop owner knew about his young employee's skills and experience on ocean journeys, so he introduced Peary to Henson.
Using his map-reading and sailing skills, Henson proved himself to be a worthy and smart seaman. Peary soon made Henson his assistant(助理), and they became close friends. One day Peary told Henson about his real dream: to be the first man to stand on “the top of the world” at the North Pole. He asked Henson to help him make his dream come true. Over the next five years, the two explorers made two trips together to the Arctic. However, they were not able to reach the pole either time. The cold, wind, and ice were worse than either of them had ever imagined.
In 1908, Peary and Henson were ready to make their final attempt at reaching the North Pole. Both men were over forty years old. The years of hardship in the arctic cold had made them suffer a lot. This would be their last chance. With four Inuit(因紐特)guides, they made a mad rush straight across the ice toward the pole. Peary's feet were injured and he had to be pulled on a dogsled. In April 1909, Henson's instruments showed they were standing at the North Pole. Together Henson and Peary planted the American flag in the snow.
In later years, Robert Peary and Henson were greatly honored for their achievements. Today, the two friends and fellow explorers lie in heroes' graves not far apart in the Arlington National Cemetery.
(1)In paragraph1, the author shows how Henson became ________.
A.a wonderful seaman
B.an educated captain
C.a good shop assistant
D.a successful learner
(2)Paragraph 2 mainly tells us ________.
A.why Matthew Henson went to the hat shop
B.how Matthew Henson met Robert Peary
C.why Matthew Henson stopped working on the Katie Hinds
D.how Robert Peary knew Matthew Henson had sea experience
(3)The following statements are TRUE except ________.
A.Henson proved himself a better seaman than Peary
B.Peary wanted Henson to help him realize his dream
C.Before their final attempt, they made two trips together
D.After they died, they were highly respected by people
(4)The story between Henson and Peary could best be compared to ________.
A.treasure hunters looking for fortunes
B.sailors seeking power over others
C.soldiers fighting for their freedom
D.fighters exploring an unknown land

【題目】根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容, 從短文后的選項中選出能填入空白處的最佳選項。選項中有兩項為多余選項。
People lie all the time, but depending on how skilled they are, it can be difficult to determine when someone is lying to you. Do you know how to recognize the signs that someone is lying to you? Some of the signs are obvious while others are more subliminal(難以察覺的), but there are ways to catch someone in a lie, you just need to know what they are.
1) Liars make false eye contact.
A person who is lying to you won't make eye contact with you or they make too much eye contact. If a person is lying they may feel you are watching him and he will look down at the floor or away from your eyes. Some people try to stare you in the face deliberately.
2)Liars avoid using contractions(縮略形式)
The liar will say “I did NOT notice that.” instead of “I didn't notice that.” Usually it ends up making the story a lot less believable.
3)Unnatural Body Language.
Liars often feel uneasy, turn away from the person to whom they are speaking, blink(眨眼) rapidly, smile less and have pitch changes in their tone of voice. They may cross their arms which is a sign of being “closed” or trying not to reveal too much information. They could touch parts of their face, an ear or a nose or play with keys or another item that they have in their hand.
4)Liars provide additional information without being asked for it
The result is the more complicated the story is, the less believable it will be. You will have the feeling that nothing could be further from the truth.
A. This is an attempt by the liar to be absolutely clear what they mean.
B. Here are some easy ways to recognize liars and catch lies.
C. Sometimes people look unnatural when they are lying
D. They will get angry if you doubt their story
E. They seem to think that by telling their story in detail, you will find it more believable.
F. They try to change the subject or move the conversation in a different direction
G. In this way they feel like making eye contact will make what they are saying more believable.
