8.From boy to man
Growing up on-screen for a decade as Harry Potter,22-year-old Daniel Radellif has had to deal with typecasting(角色定位) his whole career.However,in a new release called The woman in Black,the successful child actor finally escapes J.K.Rowling's hero by taking on the lead role in a classic ghost story.
The movie,which hit Chinese cinemas on Sept.20,tells the tale of a widowed lawyer named Arthur Kipps (Radcliffe) who is sent to a remote village in the north of England for a late client's affairs.There,he discovers the town's tragic past-children die after they see a mysterious woman dressed in black.To clear things up,he decides to stay alone in an old house,which is completely cut off from the mainland at high tide.
His fears grow when he sees a woman in black looking at him from the window and hears the sound of a pony and trap in difficulty,followed by the screams of a young child.Kipps decides he must find a way to break the cycle of horror after his son is threatened by the mysterious woman.
The story pulls out every old,dark house cliché(老套路) going:demonic(惡魔的) dolls,rocking chairs,and the ghostly black-cloaked woman herself.However,it has become one of this year's biggest box office winners in the UK when it was released there in February.
British movie critic Jamie Russell thinks what makes it so different,is how character-driven it is and how Radcliffe makes it count.
"The woman in Black works because of Radcliffe,not in spite of him,"he said."Radcliffe's face convinces you that Kipps knows what it is to have loved and lost forever."
There is not much conversation.Director James Watkins's gambled on Radcliffe's acting.He was not disappointed."It's an absolute joy doing the slow push in on Dan,reading his thoughts and letting the camera drift closer and closer into his eyes."He told British magazine Total Film.
For the former Potter star who has longed for a career away from Hogwarts, this ghost movie is a step in the right direction.
"It's mainly about working hard and proving to people you're serious about it,and stretching (傾注全力) yourself and learning."Radcliffe told British online newspaper The Huffington Post.
And he understands fame is fleeting."The line that has made the most lasting impression on me was by[US writer]William Goldman.He said something like,'Stars come and go,only actors last'."he told the news website.
(Note:Answer the questions or complete the statements in NO MORE THAN TEN WORDS.)

78.The movie The woman in Black is abouthow Arthur Kipps deals with a mysterious woman in black.
79.Why does Kipps have to find a way to break the cycle of horror?Because his son is threatened by the mysterious woman

13.When I enrolled at Pepperdine University in 1974,my mother exercised her parental right to express her worry at my departure.I responded with typical teenage indifference and ignorance."Mom,I'm only an hour away. What's the bit deal?""You just wait until you have one of your own,"she cried."Then you'll know what I'm feeling."It has been a little more than a month since my daughter Devin moved into her dorm at Occidental college, and life as I know it has come to an end.Or that's what it feels like.Mom,you were right.
The nest's empty loneliness is almost unbearable. Why does it hurt so bad?Science has an answer:We are social mammals who experience deep attachment to our fellow friends and family,an evolutionary throwback to our Paleolithic(舊石器時代的)hunter-gatherer days of living in small bands.Bonding unified the group, aiding survival in harsh climates and against unforgiving enemies.Attachment between parents and offspring assured that there is no one better equipped to look after the future survival of your genes than yourself.
The empty-nest syndrome is real, but there is good news for this and all forms of loss and grief.According to Harvard psychologist Daniel Gilbert,we are not very good at forecasting our unhappiness. Most of us think that we would be miserable for a very long time.Gilbert calls this the durability bias,an emotional misunderstanding.
The durability bias and the failure to recognize the power of our emotional immune systems lead us to overestimate how depressed we will feel and for how long, and to underestimate how quickly we will get rid of it and feel better.
For me,taking the long view helps. How long?Deep time.Evolutionary time,in which 6,895 days represent a mere 0.000000005% of the 3.5 billion year history of life on Earth.
Each of us parents makes one small contribution to the evolutionary importance of life's continuity from one generation to the next without a single gap,an unbroken link over the eons(永久).
57.What message does the author want to express by telling us her experience in the first paragraph?C
A.The empty-nest syndrome is really hard for old parents to bear.
B.All people should learn to love their parents no matter how old they are.
C.A person will not understand his parents?love until he has his own child.
D.The love parents give to children is selfless and should be respected.
58.According to Daniel Gilbert,the empty-nest syndrome isA.
A.caused by our emotional misunderstanding
B.not a real problem but in our imagination
C.the result of overestimating our happiness
D.from our emotional immune systems
59.The author gets herself out of the empty-nest syndrome by holding a positive idea thatD.
A.she can go to see her daughter regularly when she misses her
B.her daughter will one day come back to her after graduation
C.her daughter will understand her when she has her own children
D.the departure from her daughter is much shorter than the history of life on Earth
60.What kind of role do parents play in the human history, according to the last paragraph?B
A.They cultivate talents for the development of history.
B.They help keep the life's continuity without a broken link.
C.They accelerate the evolutionary pace of the human beings.
D.They point a right way for the next generation to develop themselves.

10.Batteries are included,but the charger's not.The Nokia E-Cu concept phone doesn't need to plug in,it charges from any heat source.Designer Patrick Hyland says it can even work off the warmth of your pocket.The first time"it would take approximately seven hours to reach full charge,then after that it's continuously charging by keeping the phone in areas between 86degrees and 104degrees Fahrenheit."That's one hot pocket.?
He's put a thermogenerator(熱偶電池) inside the phone that transforms heat into electric potential energy.To better conduct the heat to that little power plant in your pocket,the E-Cu (E for energy,Cu for copper) is coated by copper backing with heat sinks like those normally used to keep electronics from overheating.
Nokia doesn't have current plans to build the phone,so for now it remains a concept.But Hyland says he's open to anyone who wants to cooperate.
For Americans this technology would certainly be convenient.It would also save a bit on energy bills and waste."Annually,unwanted phone chargers produce 51,000tons of waste in addition to the greenhouse gases created by the production of the electricity needed to charge them,"Hyland says.So a charger-free phone is also a green phone.Though adapting our plug?in habits would help a group of people,most cell phone related energy use comes from leaving your charger plugged in all day unnecessarily.
The real potential for charger-free cell phone technology is what it could enable places where plugging in isn't an option,like rural areas in the developing world.
Cell phones are spreading faster than power lines and bringing with them countless opportunities,aid and health advances.A phone like the E-Cu,if it ever comes to be,would enable all manner of expanded aid and development by phone projects.Let?s hope Patrick finds a partner.

71.What do we know about the E-cu phone?D
A.It doesn't have a battery or a charger.
B.It is properly marketed and sells well.
C.It's continuously charging from any area.
D.It has a highly conductive copper cover.
72.What's the function of the underlined part"heat sinks"in Paragraph 2?A
A.To give off heat. B.To measure heat. C.To turn up heat. D.To supply heat.
73.A charger-free phone is friendly to the environment becasue.B
A.it is just a concept
B.it is self-chargeable
C.it brings convenience
D.it is no waste of money
74.From the last two paragraphs we can know that.D
A.Patrick is not ready to cooperate with others
B.power lines spread every corner of the world
C.phone projects may help solve the energy crisis
D.phones like the E-Cu have huge potential benefits
75.What is the best title of the text?C
A.Designer Patrick Hyland
B.Nokia Concept Phone on Sale
C.Charging Your Phone from Pockets
D.Benefiting from Phone Technology.
