【答案】
Dear editor,
We have held a discussion about whether it is good or not for a top student to share a desk with a slower student.
Some are for the idea. As they know, everyone has strengths as well as weaknesses. Although they are not good at lessons, they might do well in other fields like sports or arts. Therefore, they can learn form each other and they may develop a friendship. In addition, top students can help slower ones gain self-confidence by helping them with their lessons, which benefits them all.
However, others don’t hold the same view. They think some slower students are always making trouble, such as keeping talking in class, breaking school rules, which may lead to them forming the bad habits. Besides, slower students often ask top students questions, which has a bad effect on their studies.
In my opinion, I would like to choose to share a desk with a slower student so that we can learn from each and make progress together.
Yours,
Li Hua

【題目】Many Americans are turning to Japan, they think, a country of high academic(學(xué)術(shù)的) achievement and economic success, for possible answers. However, the answers provided by Japanese preschools are not the ones Americans expected to find. In most Japanese preschools, surprisingly little emphasis is put on academic instruction. In one survey, 300 Japanese and 210 American preschool teachers, child development specialists, and parents were asked about various aspects of early childhood education.Only 2 percent of the Japanese respondents(答問卷者)listed “to give children a good start academically” as one of their top three reasons for a society to have preschools. In contrast, over half the American respondents chose this as one of their top three choices. To prepare children for successful careers in first grade and beyond, Japanese schools do not teach reading, writing, and mathematics, but rather skills such as determination, concentration, and the ability to work as a member of a group. The huge majority of young Japanese children are taught to read at home by their parents.
Like in America, there is diversity(多樣性) in Japanese early childhood education. Some Japanese kindergartens have specific aims, such as early musical training or potential(潛力的) development. In large cities, some kindergartens are attached to universities that have elementary and secondary schools. Some Japanese parents believe that if their young children attend a university-based program, it will increase the children’s chances of eventually being admitted to top-rated schools and universities.Several more progressive programs have introduced free play as a way out for the heavy intellectualizing in some Japanese kindergartens.
【1】We learn from the first paragraph that many Americans believe ________.
A. Japanese preschool education emphasizes academic instruction
B. Japanese parents are more involved in preschool education than American parents
C. Japan’s economic success is a result of its scientific achievements
D. Japan’s higher education is superior to theirs
【2】In Japan’s preschool education, the focus is on ________.
A. preparing children academically
B. shaping children’s character
C. teaching children mathematics
D. developing children’s artistic interests
【3】Why do some Japanese parents send their children to university-based kindergartens?
A. They can do better in their future studies.
B. They can make more group experience grow there.
C. They can be individually oriented when they grow up.
D. They can have better chances of getting a first-rate education.
【4】Free play has been introduced in some Japanese kindergartens in order to ________.
A. broaden children’s knowledge

It doesn't matter to fail as long as you don't give up. To my opinion, it is hard to be successful. Challenges were a necessary part of your life as you grow up. And you won't necessary succeed in everything for the first time you try. That's okay. Some of the most successful people in the world are the one who've had the most failures. J.K. Rowling, wrote Harry Potter, had her first Harry Potter book was rejected 12 times before it was finally published. Michael Jordan was removed his high school basketball team. He lost hundreds of games and miss thousands of shots during his career. But he once said, “I have failed over and over and over again in my life. And that's because I succeed.”

Too many of us are waiting too long to live our best lives. We keep putting everything off until tomorrow. Then, before we know it, we find ourselves asking, "How did it get so late so soon?"
So we’d better make today the beginning of our new life. Take time to realize what we want and need. Take time to love, laugh, cry, and learn. ____【1】___ Here are five things we should start doing today:
Accept ourselves. The secret to happiness and success is the acceptance of ourselves. We will never become who we want to be if we rely on everyone else to qualify us. __【2】____ So always go with ourselves, never against ourselves. Be who we were created to be and we will set the world on fire.
Make ourselves a priority. To tell the truth, there are only a few people in this world who will stay 100% true to us, so we should stay true to ourselves. Put our own needs into the list of things to do.
___【3】____ Don’t sit back and let things happen to us. Go out and make things happen. We are what we do, not what we say we’ll do. Stop saying "I wish" and start saying "I will". Turn our dreams into plans.
Do the work. We can’t underestimate(低估) a person who always works hard. Be that person. __【4】___ Always remember that the task ahead of us is never greater than the strength within us. Do what’s right, not what’s easy. Our dreams are worth it.
____【5】____ We can’t force things to happen; we can only drive ourselves trying crazily. There’s a time and place for everything. So don’t force what’s not yet supposed to fit into our life. When it’s meant to be, it will be. Work hard, and be patient.
A. Take positive action.
B. Enjoy every moment of life.
C. Life is shorter than it often seems.
D. Everyone has a different way of life.
