科目:高中英語 來源:山東省2017屆高三4月“圓夢之旅”(九)英語試卷 題型:閱讀理解

Once when I was facing a decision that involved high risk, I went to a friend. He looked at me for a moment, and then wrote a sentence containing the best advice I’ve ever had: Be bold and brave—and mighty(強大的) forces will come to your aid.

Those words made me see clearly that when I had fallen short in the past, it was seldom because I had tried and failed. It was usually because I had let fear of failure stop me from trying at all. On the other hand, whenever I had plunged into deep water, forced by courage or circumstance, I had always been able to swim until I got my feet on the ground again.

Boldness means a decision to bite off more than you are sure you can eat. And there is nothing mysterious about the mighty forces. They are potential powers we possess: energy, skill, sound judgment, creative ideas—even physical strength greater than most of us realize.

Admittedly, those mighty forces are spiritual ones. But they are more important than physical ones. A college classmate of mine, Tim, was an excellent football player, even though he weighed much less than the average player. “In one game I suddenly found myself confronting a huge player, who had nothing but me between him and our goal line,” said Tim. “I was so frightened that I closed my eyes and desperately threw myself at that guy like a bullet(子彈)—and stopped him cold.”

Boldness—a willingness to extend yourself to the extreme—is not one that can be acquired overnight. But it can be taught to children and developed in adults. Confidence builds up. Surely, there will be setbacks(挫折) and disappointments in life; boldness in itself is no guarantee of success. But the person who tries to do something and fails is a lot better off than the person who tries to do nothing and succeeds.

So, always try to live a little bit beyond your abilities—and you’ll find your abilities are greater than you ever dreamed.

1.Why was the author sometimes unable to reach his goal in the past?

A. He faced huge risks. B. He lacked mighty forces.

C. Fear prevented him from trying. D. Failure blocked his way to success.

2.What is the implied meaning of the underlined part?

A. Swallow more than you can digest. B. Act slightly above your abilities.

C. Develop more mysterious powers. D. Learn to make creative decisions.

3.What can be learned from Paragraph 5?

A. Confidence grows more rapidly in adults. B. Trying without success is meaningless.

C. Repeated failure creates a better life. D. Boldness can be gained little by little.

4.What is the author’s purpose in writing this passage?

A. To encourage people to be courageous. B. To advise people to build up physical power.

C. To tell people the ways to guarantee success. D. To recommend people to develop more abilities.

As the saying goes, time is money. But in my opinion, time is even precious than money. Why?Because when money is spent,we still have a chance to earn them back. But when time is wasting,we can never get it back. There is some doubt that time is very limited, and even a minute is of great valuable. We should make full use of time to do that should be done. It's the pity that a lot of people still didn't appreciate the value of time. They are wasting their time doing nothing of useful. We should form the good habit of race against time and make a difference in our world.

Hi Fellows,
I'm Li Hua,a senior high student from China.I'd like to share something with you.Since the beginning of senior high, the learning burden makes us students feel more stressed. Many of us often sit up late at night fighting for the College Entrance Exam; even a ten-minute break won't be let go.
As far as I know, lack of sleep does great harm to our heaith. For one thing,we can't concentrate in class if we don't get enough sleep. For another,we may get angry and impatient easily.By the same token,a ten-minute break is definitely necessary, which can help us get rid of tiredness and focus on next class period.A famous proverb goes well,"All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy".How about your situation and opinion?
Looking forward to your reply..

13.With more recognition than Halloween and less than Christmas,Valentine's Day as an imported festival faces a dangerous situation in China,where it's caught between forces of tradition and fashion.Valentine's Day has a natural enemy in China.And it is not the Chinese equivalent,which falls on the seventh day of the seventh month on the lunar calendar,usually around half a year away from Feb.14.It is the Spring Festival,also known as the Chinese New Year,that will influence the Feast of Saint Valentine.
The real disagreement between East and West probably took place over a century ago,when China's door was forced open by Western powers and Chinese scholars supported westernization as a means to strengthen our nation's ability to compete.The introduction of the solar calendar and Western measurements was both an acknowledgment of their influence and an effort to be accepted by the world order.
For a full century,we have had two systems running in parallel.When it comes to the eventual outcome,practicality usually beats all other concerns.Laws can help,such as the three traditional festivals of Tomb Sweeping,Dragon Boat and Mid-Autumn gaining legal status in 2008 and giving every Chinese citizen a day off,but laws cannot push what people have no feelings for.So,the celebration or boycott of imported holidays or homegrown ones should be no cause for worry.If they are irrelevant,no social media will change the public's mind; and if they are accepted,there must be a need which they happen to satisfy.
Since we have no global Qin Shihuang to force one system on every country,we can always rely on a dual (雙重) approach by which we share with the outside world on one hand but preserve our own ways of life on the other.

24.What does the author think about Valentine's Day in present China?A
A.It meets with a natural enemy.
B.It is better known than Christmas.
C.It strongly attacks Chinese culture.
D.It is more popular with young people.
25.The underlined word"equivalent"in the first paragraph refers toD.
A.the Dragon-boat Festival
B.the Spring Festival
C.the Mid-autumn Festival
D.the Chinese Valentine's Day
26.According to the author,the leading factor to decide what to celebrate isB.
A.current laws       B.people's needs     C.public media     D.a(chǎn)ge-old tradition
27.The author believes thatC.
A.the conflict between the East and the West will last long
B.Chinese festivals are to be paid more attention to in years
C.both Chinese and foreign systems of festivals can co-exist in China
D.this cultural shock is normal and will be received by more people in the future.
