How to Improve Speed Reading Skills

Speed reading is one of many skills that can improve your reading comprehension and shorten your study time. 1..

Look at groups of words, not single words.

2.. However, if you can get into the habit of reading groups or chunks of words at one time, then you can read much faster. Start by trying to look at a group of three or four words at once, then work up to looking at an entire line of words. Focus on words that give the sentence meaning, such as the nouns and verbs and pay less attention to the filler words, such as “A, the, and, etc.”

Scan for keywords.

Scanning is a highly effective way of extracting answers from a text without really reading it. If you know exactly what you are looking for—a name, a date, a statistic, or a specific word—you can find it quickly by skipping over large chunks of the text. To scan, first visualize the word, number, or phrase you would like to find. 3.. The information you are looking for should pop out at you.

4..

You can train yourself to read faster by timing yourself as you go. Start by getting your base time. Set a timer for fifteen minutes, and speed read as you normally do. 5.. Do not count the words, just the pages or paragraphs. Record your figures: for instance, you might write “15min/6.5 pages.”

A. Then, run your eyes rapidly over the text

B. Race the clock

C. Check your comprehension

D. If you read a text one word at a time, then this will slow your reading speed way down

E. Here are some Speed Reading Techniques

F. One of the reasons you read slowly is that you have to pause sometimes to understand what a passage is saying

G. When the timer goes off, check to see how far you have got

Nowadays there are some students use cellphones to copy teachers’ lecture notes. They think that taking notes with cellphones instead of by the hand can save time, that can be used in studies.

In my opinion, cellphones are either good nor bad. It depend on how we use it. We should make properly use of cellphones. Cellphones are much easy for us to copy notes and more convenient to search what we need. However, we should remember that cellphones in the classroom can lead to lazy.

科目:高中英語(yǔ) 來源:廣西玉林市畢業(yè)班質(zhì)量檢測(cè)英語(yǔ)試卷 題型:閱讀理解

Manners nowadays in big cities like London are particularly non-existent. It's nothing for a big, strong schoolboy to push an elderly woman aside in the dash for the last remaining seat on a bus, much less stand up and offer his seat to her, as he ought to. In fact, it is saddening to note that if a man does offer his seat to an older woman, it is nearly always one from the older generation.

This question of giving up seats in public transport is much argued by young men, who say that, since women have claimed equality, they no longer deserve to be treated with courtesy and that those who go out to work should take their turn in the rat race like anyone else. Women have never claimed to be physically as strong as men. Even if it's not agreed, however, that young men should stand up for older women, the fact remains that courtesy should be shown to the old, the sick and the burdened. Are we really so lost to all ideals of unselfishness that we can sit there indifferently reading the paper or a book, saying to ourselves "First come, first served", while a gray-haired woman, a mother with a young child or a cripple stands? Yet this is too often seen.

Older people, tired and easy annoyed from a day's work, aren't angels, either-far from it. Many an argument or an insulting quarrel breaks out as they feel tired of pushes in the queue and shove(猛推) each other to get on buses.

If cities are to remain pleasant places to live in at all, however, it seems necessary, not only that communication in transport should be improved, but also that communication between human beings should be kept smooth and polite. Shop assistant won't bother to assist, taxi drivers shout at each other as they dash dangerously round comers, bus conductors pull the bell before their desperate passengers have had time to get on or off the bus, and so on. It seems to us that it's up to the young and strong to do their small part to stop such deterioration(惡化).

1.What can be inferred from the first paragraph?

A. A big strong schoolboy never pushes the elderly for a seat on a bus.

B. Young persons are sure to offer seat to the elderly.

C. Older generation have better manners than the young.

D. Elderly women are often treated politely.

2.What's the author's attitude towards the young men's argument about offering seat in public?

A. Tolerant. B. Doubtful. C. Positive. D. Negative.

3.What do we know about older people when they are tired from a day's work?

A. Older people behave worse than the young.

B. Older people may also have unpleasant behaviors.

C. Older people don't like taking buses.

D. Older people are good at argument and quarrel.

4.Why does the author write this article?

A. To tell us that manners nowadays in big cities are non-existent.

B. To scold the persons who have no manners at all.

C. To warn us of the seriousness of young men's lacking good manners.

D. To call on the young to improve the situation.

科目:高中英語(yǔ) 來源:吉林省長(zhǎng)白山市2017屆高三第二次模擬考試英語(yǔ)試卷(有答案) 題型:閱讀理解

If you feel at present that you don’t have enough friends in your life, one reason may be that you have let yourself become too busy to make time for the relationships you already have. Starting and keeping friendship requires effort and commitment(責(zé)任,義務(wù),承諾).

Many of us let our lives become so busy with work and other commitments that we don’t get around to scheduling time for pleasure and renewal(敘舊) with the friends, relatives and acquaintances we already have.

Making the effort to call your friends more regularly and to accept more of the invitations you receive from others can improve your social life in a hurry!

Are there any people you could call right now and be assured of a pleasant welcome? Are there people that you could depend on to help you in time of difficulty? Can you have close talks with them? Do you have fun when you are together? Are you happy to have them in your life?

If you haven’t seen much of them lately, is it because you have become too busy? Have you grown apart? Was there an argument?

If the main reason you haven’t been getting together with the people you already know is because you have gotten too busy, take a good look at how you spend your time. Compare it with your real values and priorities(優(yōu)先考慮的事)in life. Is your busy lifestyle really bringing you the quality of life that you want?

If you have become too busy for friends, why has this happened? Are you seeking material joys in your life at the expense of relationships with other human beings? Have you allowed your time to be over-committed because you never say “No” to anyone? Do you insist on doing things yourself that could be delegated to others? If so, why? Do you believe that everything depends on you?

Examine whether the way you are now spending your time exactly reflects your deepest values and priorities. Make sure that you schedule enough time for the things that are truly most important to you.

If you really want to keep friends in your life, make a space in your schedule, and a space in your heart for them.

1.In this passage the author mainly discusses ________.

A. how to balance friendship and work B. how to spend our spare time

C. whether we should keep friendship D. whether we should invite friends to dinner

2.What does the underlined word “delegated” probably mean?

A. Appointed(分派). B. Replaced. C. Reduced. D. Handled.

3.The reason why you have become too busy for friends may be the following except that ________.

A. you spend too much time seeking material joys in your life

B. you feel it difficult to keep friendship

C. you stick to doing everything all by yourself

D. you never refuse whatever other people ask you to do

4.Which would be the best title for the text?

A. Too busy for Friendship? B. Too busy with work?

C. How to Spend Your Time D. How to Make New Friends
