Many cities around the world today are heavily polluted. Careless methods of production and lack of consumer demand for environment-friendly products have contributed to the pollution problem. One re?sult is that millions of tons of glass, paper, plastic,

and metal containers are produced, and these are difficult to get rid of.

However , today , more and more consumers are choosing " green" and demanding that the products they buy should be safe for the environment. Before they buy a product, they ask questions like these: "Will this shampoo damage the environment?" "Can this metal container be reused or can it only be used once?"

A recent study showed that two out of five adults now consider the envi?ronmental safety of a product before they buy it. This means that companies must now change the way they make and sell their products to make sure that they are "green", that is* friendly to the environment.

Only a few years ago, it was impossible to find green products in super?markets ,but now there are hundreds. Some supermarket products carry labels to show that the product is green. Some companies have made the manufactur-ing(生產(chǎn))of clean and safe products their main selling point and emphasize it in their advertising.

The concern for a safer and cleaner environment is making companies rethink how they do business. No longer will the public accept the old attitude of "Buy it, use it, throw it away, and forget it". The public pressure is on, and gradually business is cleaning up its act.

A few years ago, my younger brother and I went to Norfolk, Virginian by plane. 5 , before we took off, we heard the pilot's voice throughout the plane. "Sorry, ladies and gentlemen. We have no 6 on the plane. We have a generator (發(fā)電機(jī)),and we are going to 7 the engines with it. We will 8 in the air and head to Norfolk, and see what happens.

See what happens? We are going to get up in the air, and see what happens? At this point, one woman started crying. "Oh, no! We are going to 9 ! There were sighs of desperation and  10 spreading throughout the plane, and we hadn't even 11 yet. Thirty minutes passed and we were still 12 there. Then the voice of the pilot came over again, "Ladies and gentlemen, I know you are 13 , so are we. We only have one engine going right now, and it is working double time.

There was crying 14 we had walked into a grave (墳?zāi)?.But, the pilot told us our one engine was working double time, and his 15 was to get up in the air, and see what happens! Then we did. We got up in the air and 16 happened. We arrived in Norfolk and everyone  17  for still being alive.

Although I do sincerely like to have a plan 18 "see what happens", which really isn't such a bad life strategy (策略),all too often, I would see people pur?suing their goals 19 with inaction just because they don't have 20 success. Actually, success will never be guaranteed. The 21 thing that you can do is just get up in the air, and see what happens.

If you are planning to learn a new skill, get up in the air, and see what happens! It might not be as

22 as you thought. You might be smarter than you thought. It could be 23 ! So don't stay there trying nothing just because there is no 24 of guaranteed success.

Dear Daddy ,

I just want to say Happy Father's Day and also Happy Birthday* since to?day is also your birthday.

I want to tell you something that I probably never told you before. First of all, I know you had always been the type of American father that didn't show lots of love. You were a little harder on your boys, then you were your girls. But in fact we know you always spoiled us girls.

I know that I didn't visit you as often as 1 should have and I didn't call you either, and for this I am truly sorry. I should have spent more time with you and we could have a good long talk, because I did truly enjoy the talks that we had. You were also one of those people that were always fun to be around and could always make us laugh. I enjoyed the time we spent together and al?though I probably never told you before, but I did appreciate everything you ever did for me.

Mum, my sister and I went to see you this morning and spent some time with you. We couldn't let your birthday and Father's Day go by without pay?ing you a visit. We placed some flowers on your headstone(墓碑)and someone had left a flag on there as well. Probably it's one of my brothers. 1 kept think?ing about that February windy day back in 1992 when we laid you in the ground and how I just wanted to scream, "Don't put my daddy in the ground; it's dark down there.,,

Daddy, I hope that you are still smiling up in heaven the way I remember you when you were alive. I shall see you again soon. 1 will keep it. Happy Birthday and Happy Father's Day. I love you and always will.

Yours , Jane
