【題目】 Have you kept the secrets in your heart? Have you tried to hide anything from others? Is it all right if you don’t tell the truth? you’ll find the answer after reading the following passage.
Marie was Joey’s mother. There was something wrong with her son’s feet. The doctor told her that Joey would be able to walk like others, but would never run very fast. At the age of eight, Joey ran around with the children in his neighborhood. His mother never told him that he wouldn’t be able to run as fast as the other children. So he didn’t know.
In the seventh grade, he decided to try out for a runner on his school team. He ran more than any of the others in order to be chosen. Joey practiced running four to five miles a day--even one day when he had a high fever. Although Marie was worried about him, she never told him he couldn’t run with such a high fever. So he didn’t know.
Two weeks later, Joey made the team. Marie never told him he couldn’t do it. So he didn’t know. He just did it.
Although sometimes we don’t tell others the truth, it can make them optimistic and meet the challenge of their lives bravely. Why not go for it?

【題目】 Are you shy? If you are. you are not alone. In fact, close lo 50 percent of people are shy Almost 80 percent of people feel shy at some point in their lives. These days. shyness is becoming more and more common. Now, scientists are trying to understand shyness. They have some interesting ideas about why people are shy.
Is it possible to be born shy? Many scientists say yes. They say 15 to 20 percent of babies behave shyly. These babies are a little quieter and more watchful than other babies. Interestingly, these shy babies usually have shy parents. As a result, scientists think that some shyness is genetic.
Family size might cause people to be shy as well. Scientists at Harvard University studied said children. They found that 66 percent of them had elder brothers and sisters. The scientists said that these children were often bullied by their elder brothers and sisters. As a result, they became shy. At the same time, children with no brothers and sisters may be shy as well. Growing up alone, they often play by themselves. They are not able to learn the same social skills as children from big families.
You may also be shy because of where you were born. When scientists studied shyness in different countries, they found surprising differences. In Japan, most people said they were shy. But in Israel (以色列),only one of three people said so. What explains the difference? One scientist says the Japanese and Israelis have different opinions of failure. In Japan, when people do not succeed they feel bad about themselves. They blame (責(zé)備)themselves for their failure. In Israel, the opposite is true. Israelis often blame failure on outside reasons, such as family, teachers, friends or bad luck. In Israel, freedom of opinion and risk taking are strongly supported. This may be why Israelis worry less about failure and are less shy.
For shy people, it can be difficult to make friends, speak in class, and even get a good job. But scientists say you can get over your shyness. They suggest trying new things and practicing conversations. And don't forget if you are shy. You are not the only one.

【題目】 We students have two days off in a week. But do you know“996”? (A)It means starting work at 9 a.m and finishing at 9_p.m., six days a week.
The“996”work schedule has recently become a heated topic of discussion online. According to the website, working in a“996”schedule is unhealthy and could cause people to end up in serious illness. This work schedule is common at Chinese tech companies like Baidu, Alibaba and Huawei. Most“996”workers do not receive overtime pay.
Many tech industry workers have complained about this schedule. “I worked‘996’for nine months,” one worker said. “I couldn’t sleep because of the stress. So, I leave my job.”
However, the bosses of some tech companies supported“996”. Jack Ma, founder of Alibaba, said it’s “a huge blessing” for young workers to work“996”. “If you don’t do‘996’when you’re young, when will you?” Ma said. “If you don’t spend more time and energy than others,(B)你將如何取得你想要的成功呢?” Many have questioned Ma’s thinking. In an article in People’s Daily, one reporter said, “There is a clear difference between valuing hard work and forcing employees to work overtime.”
A lawyer told China Daily that it is illegal(違法的)to use a“996”work schedule. China’s Labor Law clearly states that employees should not be asked to work more than eight hours a day or 44 hours a week.
