Nuclear power's danger to health, safety, and even life itself can be summed up in one word: radiation.
Nuclear radiation has a certain mystery, partly be?cause it cannot be detected by human senses. It can't be seen or heard? or touched or tasted, even though it may be all around us. There are other things like that. For example, radio waves are all around us but we can't de?tect them, sense them, without a radio receiver. Simi?larly, we can't sense radioactivity without a radiation detector. But unlike common radio waves , nuclear radiation is not harmless to human beings and other living things.
At very high levels, radiation can kill an animal or human being immediately by killing masses of cells in vi?tal organs. But even the lowest levels can do serious damage. There is no level of radiation that is completely safe. If the radiation does not hit anything important, the damage may not be serious. This is the case when only a few cells are hit, and if they are killed immediately, your body will replace the dead cells with healthy ones. But if the few cells are only damaged and if they reproduce themselves, you may be in trouble. They can grow into cancer. Sometimes this does not show up for many years.
This is another reason for some of the mystery about nuclear radiation. Serious damage can be done without the victim being aware at the time that damage has occurred. A person can be irradiated (輻射)and feel fine, then die for cancer five, ten, or twenty years later as a result. Or a child can be born weak as a result of radiation absorbed by its grandparents. Radiation can hurt us. We must know the truth.

B. By killing a few cells.
C. By hitting any place in its body.

Here is some must-know information from a hand?book on houu people behave in doing business in some countries.
In Brazil (巴西)
Brazilians are warm and friendly. They often stand close when talking and it is common for them to touch the person on the shoulder. People often greet each oth?er (particularly women) with light cheek kisses. Sched?ules tend to be flexible, with business meetings some?times starting later than planned. But to be safe, be on time. Meals can stretch for hours―here's no such thing as rushing a meal inBrazil. Lunches also can start in the mid to late afternoon. Brazilians are social, preferring face-to-face communication over e-mails or phone calls.
InSingapore
Singaporeans shake hands when they meet and of?ten also greet each other with a small, polite bow. Busi?ness cards should be offered and received with two hands. Arriving late is considered disrespectful. So be on time. Efficiency (效率)is the goal, so meetings and dealings are often fast-paced. Singaporeans are direct in their discussions, even when the subject is about mon?ey. Rank is important and authority is respected. This determines how people interact in meetings. For exam?ple, people avoid disagreeing outright with someone of a higher rank.
In theUnited Arab Emirates
In the UAE, status (地位)is important, so the most senior or oldest should be greeted first with their titles. The handshake seems to be longer than else?where. So do not pull away from the handshake. Women should cover themselves when it comes to dress. Men also tend to be covered from neck to elbows (射部)and down to the knees. People do not avoid en?tertaining in their homes, but they also hold business meals at restaurants. Touching or passing food or eating with your left hand is to be avoided. When meetings are one-to-one, if your host offers you coffee? you should refuse. It might seem odd, but it is a cultural tradition. Coffee should only be accepted if it is already set out or presented.
InSwitzerland
The Swiss tend to be formal and address each other by last name. They are also respectful of private lives. You should be careful not to ask about personal topics. Punctuality (守時)is vital, something that comes from a deep respect for others' time. Arrive at any meeting or event a few minutes earlier to be safe. They also have clear structure in their companies. Higher-ups make the final decisions, even if others might disagree. Neat, clean dress is expected. The Swiss follow formal table manners. They also keep their hands visible at the table arid their elbows off the table. It is polite to finish the food on your plate.
5.The passage is mainly about .
A.communication types
B.the workplace atmosphere
C.customs and social manners
D.living conditions and standards

A [2015*山東泰安高三下學(xué)期二輪檢測]
When people are asked to list typical English gentlemen, for many,Colin Firth immediately comes to mind.
In his recent film, Kingsman : The Secret Service ?the 54-year-old actor appears as elegant and violent super spy Harry Hart. One minute he's calm and polite, and then in the next he's skilfully violent and aggressive. For example,in one scene he says,"Manners maketh man",before severely beating up a group of villains (if A). Firth brings out the perfect mix of typical British style and humour through this performance.
Firth began appearing on English TV in the early 1990s, but it wasn't until he played Mr Darcy,a charming upper class character from Jane Austen's famous novel Pride and Preju?dice ,that Firth's career really took off. His portrayaK形象)of the perfect fictional gentleman conquered millions of hearts, especially females'.
In many fans and critics'eyes, Firth has British good looks,British charm, and a gift for characters with a British sense of being reserved(矜持).Movie reviewer Jason O'Bryan described Firth as "always befitting the calm and stiff-upper-lip British gentlemen character".
However Firth doesn't consider himself the authority on gentlemen. "I don't necessarily approach every challenge like a perfect English gentleman spy. There are many aspects in my personality that are not consistent with someone like Har?ry Hart,"he said to Dialogue, an English-language show on CCTV News.

To prepare for Kingsman ^ Firth trained for three hours every day over six months. He broke a tooth and got bruised everywhere, but took the damage as a symbol of his accom?plishments.

The multi-million pound new Library of Birming-ham( LoB) will be the most visible sign of the way the city is accepting the digitalization(數(shù)字化)of everyday life.
Set to open in 2013 , the LoB is already beginning to take shape next to the Birmingham Repertory Theatre, with which it will share some equipment.
